dvoid_
hello
im looking for a solution to download & run a c++ application from a webpage with as little or no intervention from the user, more then allowing it to happen. what would be the best way to do this?
auscompgeek
Well, you could use .NET, but a number of users either don't have it installed, aren't on Windows, or disabled Firefox integration.
dvoid_
i guess my primary concern would be windows, but a solution that works on linux would offcourse be better
is there maybe some kind of plugin for firefox that could be installed when visiting my page, that would allow me to execute an .exe ?
i guess i could create one myself?
but it seems like something that would already exist if it was possible?
pltmnky
java :/
dvoid_
who has java?
pltmnky
most people have some sort of jre
dvoid_
i saw some examples of using javascript to use activeX to run an applications, but that only works in IE
pltmnky
you would probably have to build a java app that specifically grabs the c++ application and executes it. the problem is, it would also have to determine what os, and architecture for it to run on everything
dvoid_
yea

pltmnky
so you would have many different compiled versions of that app :/
auscompgeek
Linux can't interpret .exe's.
dvoid_
i think that can be solved
primary concern is windows anyway
my idea is to be able to execute games from say facebook
im developing a gameengine, and it would be nice if ppl could try my games in a VERY easy way
pltmnky
a java app would probably be the most universal workable solution
dvoid_
yea
im looking into it
pltmnky
eventhough i hate java personally lol
dvoid_
hehe yea me to
its been ages since i coded java
but i have some spaceinvaders game i created like 8 years ago or so
that runs in a webpage hehe.
pltmnky
lol
Frantic
hey guys, does anyone know of any way to make firefox ignore a "Location: ..." header and display the rest of the content?
auscompgeek
You mean a <meta> redirect?
Peng
I imagine he means a Location header.
Frantic
Peng: that's what I mean
I'd like to see if an app leaks data after printing the Location header
auscompgeek
Oh, in the headers...
Frantic
any way to do it? :)
auscompgeek
You can try toggling a pref.
Peng
Sorry, I've got no idea. :-\ Maybe you could use curl or something?
auscompgeek
Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Warn when sites try to redirect the page
No guarantees it will work.
Peng
Probably won't.
Frantic
it doesn't do anything :)
maybe it works on other cues, like window.location or meta refresh
Peng: curl works actually, but I can't see the Locaiton header
would have thought there's a FF addon that does this, didn't think I'm the first person to check this :)
Peng
Live HTTP Headers and Firebug are the usual HTTP header extensions, but I dunno if they help here.
TamperData too.

auscompgeek
Firebug ftw :D
jelly-bean
when i use ctrl+f to search the page, i can keep hitting ENTER to cycle through matches. when i land on a link, how can i follow it without using the mouse? it would be cool if ctrl+enter did that, but it doesn't.
nvm quick find does it ' /
infid
do you have to install the rss ticker addon in order to get scrolling live bookmarks?
someone said i could do it without it but i dont see how
jerome__
Hello all
jadjayjay
hi
I use netcat to speak here, it's not f* easy :D
Peng
The SSL is the worst part, right? :D
jerome__
Peng : Hell yeah :)
jadjayjay
you beg ;D
infid
how can i have firefox update my live book marks every minute
jerome__
try pressing F5 every minutes :D
Peng
infid: You can't.
infid: It's incredibly rude to hit a website once a minite.
minute*
infid
not even in the about: stuff?
well i want to check the rss feeds everyminute
Peng
infid: Firefox doesn't let you be that much of a jackass.
jerome__
while 1; do wget website; done
auscompgeek
O_o
infid
it's wrong to check an rss feed every minute?
jerome__
yes
Peng
infid: Yes.
infid
i thought it would just check the cache and if anything was new it'd then grab it
jerome__
imagine a thousand doing the same
Peng
How is it supposed to find out if anything is new without doing an HTTP request?
jerome__
and read about ddos
infid
what's the quickest i should check?
doesnt i just do a HEAD request? well i guess that could ddos
jerome__
10 min, the world doesn't evolve so fast :D
Peng
I'm sure it does a conditional GET, but it still takes _some_ resources.
Especially if the website has a crappy dynamic feed script.
infid
ok, i just dont like the idea of having to not know what's going on the second it's released :P
but if there's no way around that then i'll just set it to 10+ minutes
jadjayjay
Hard as a rock!
infid
tmi
jadjayjay
Even don't have up arrow to reuse the PRIVMSG
Not a very useful irc client :D but it worth it :D
Peng
Worth what?
TannerF
jadjayjay: twss
jadjayjay
I'm french saying silly things in english, i mean it's fun :)
Peng
You can do that without netcat. :D
jadjayjay
What's the twss means? Peng: Arf! :D
Peng
jadjayjay: that's what she said
jadjayjay
Maybe one s in twss means stupid
Peng
Yes, it is stupid, but that's not what it means. :P
jadjayjay
Arf! Well thanks and see u... Got to CTRL-C now :D
brah-
is @ really necessary?
Peng
brah-: Yes.
brah-
Peng how come?
Peng
brah-: I don't have the rights to op myself. :D
brah-
your bnc/eggdrop can do it :P
Peng_
SPOFs are lovely.
Peng
Besides, if I cared enough to fix the problem, I'd fix it directly instead of implementing some stupid workaround.
brah-
channel @ isn't the way of freenode, it's a ploy of degration
hidden ops is the way
Peng
"degration"?
brah-
yes
makes people feel inferior to you, as you have channel admin, versus hidden op as it makes all feel equal and the topic at hand can be focused on
other irc networks @ is common as channel admins are immature, and depressed so need it to feel better than others
Peng
I think you were going for "degradation".
brah-
symatics
Peng
No, spelling.
brah-
if you understood, then that's all that matters
symatics
Peng
"semantics"
I was pretty sure I understood, but not 100%.
I already told you, I don't care enough to fix the problem. Debating it accomplishes nothing.
brah-
i see your a real problem solver
clearly you're in the right channel
Peng
Heh.
Hmm, if I was -o, I could be _less_ responsible, cuz it wouldn't reflect on Mozilla.
metalfan_
hi
dolske
(Action) WTFs at backscroll.
metalfan_
how can i display all of my accounts in thunderbird? ive defined two but i only see the second one in the main window
auscompgeek
metalfan_, try at irc.mozilla.org
metalfan_
thx
auscompgeek
np
TannerF
dolske: ?
auscompgeek
What's the "WTF moment" that just hit you?
TannerF
<jadjayjay> Hard as a rock!
<TannerF> jadjayjay: twss
maybe?
Peng
auscompgeek & TannerF: The whole op discussion?
TannerF
oh
auscompgeek
Some networks actually still use @ as a channel prefix.
Peng
Well, we'd have to ask dolske to know for sure, I suppose.
auscompgeek
heh

Is there anyway to create a different launcher for firefox for different plugin profiles in any way? i use firebug and web dev toolbar for dev/des work, but firebug slows down the browser load it seems. I just want to be able to have a development launcher and a "browsing" launcher for ff (Ubuntu 9.10; Firefox 3.5.8)
yoawto
Hi, is it possible to send out GET requests via firefox extensions, if any?
Peng
Yes. Dunno how, though. :D
(Action) points to irc.mozilla.org #extdev
yoawto
thanks!
Lewoco
How do I make keyword searches work properly for strings containing '+' characters? I have a google keyword search which works ok if I do 'g foobar', but doesn't if I try something like 'g c++'.
aitiba
hi
I'm making a live usb how can I add another source to the finding bo?
box*, please
TannerF
thats not really a firefox question
is it?
aitiba
yes is a firefox question because I dont know how can I add search plugin automaticly TannerF
i know that the files are beyond the user home under .mozilla/firefox
TannerF
oh
aitiba
the folder there are like 1fdxejtp.default for example
the first number and letters are important or can I use anyone?
TannerF, do I explain myself?
TannerF
i dont know how to do that
subone
aitiba, what are you using firefox portable?
aitiba
no I'm usng live-helper, a debian tool to make live
I only need to know where firefo save the file to the search plugins
subone
oh
aitiba
what the problem
?
subone
so you are making a livecd and you want to know where to place plugins so that they are installed?
aitiba
no I would like to know how can I add a new search plugin
subone
right... but otherwise i got it right?
aitiba
yes
so any ideas?
kbrosnan
defaults/profile
aitiba
kbrosnan, on /home/user/.mozilla/firefo/defaults/profile?
i'm on ubuntu
subone
aitiba, i think you may have to create the searchplugins directory in your default folder (e.g. mkdir ~/.mozilla/firefox/[randomnums].default/searchplugins)
aitiba
ok
subone, thanks. that is what I'm thinking to do
but wwith your answer I know now that the first numbers are rampor on .mozilla/firefo
firefox*
subone, i'm going to try. so helpfull
subone
aitiba, yeah, im not certain how they are generated, but it always has some random crap before the word default
aitiba, you can confirm my guess by adding a search engine to your own firefox, i note it created the directory
aitiba
me too
subone
aitiba, ffr http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
bbl, american idol is on lol
aitiba
very usefull
subone
Is there anyway to create a different launcher for firefox for different plugin profiles in any way? i use firebug and web dev toolbar for dev/des work, but firebug slows down the browser load it seems. I just want to be able to have a development launcher and a "browsing" launcher for ff (Ubuntu 9.10; Firefox 3.5.8)
xangua
create another fx profile
kbrosnan
aitiba: no the defaults folder is in the the same folder as the firefox binary
sparr
subone: profiles are what you want
run "firefox -ProfileManager" and create a new one
then make a shortcut to "firefox -P profilewithfirebug" and one to "firefox -P profilewithoutfirebug"
aitiba
sparr, I dont think so. profiles are to have "user" with diferents etensions, bookmarks... I only need one profile the default
now I'm making a live using .mozilla/firefo/random_number.defaults/ here are some bookmarks and some search plugins
but if my view doesnt runes I try it
sparr, thanks
but this options is not automatic
sparr
i don't know if it would work, but you could link all the files EXCEPT extensions between the two profile folders?
so they use the same bookmarks, cookies, cache, etc
aitiba
i only have one profile
kbrosnan
no profile folders need to be unique. files cannot be shared.
aitiba
but if the profile folder is like 1fdxejtp.default? this is unique or not kbrosnan
sparr
kbrosnan: at all? what happens if you try?
and... why?
kbrosnan
the first part up to the period is randomly generated
sparr: some files are locked on open. others are easily corrupted.
sparr
