JodaZ
txarli, http://digitizor.com/2010/01/22/how-to-install-firefox-3-6-in-ubuntu-9-10/
use the instructions in part 3 "INSTALL FROM STABLE PPA" from that guide
txarli
thank so much JodaZ I will try to instal
JodaZ
but you don't need 3.6
txarli

Hello
Do u guys know where I can find the Tabs that had to open when firefox starts in Windows Vista/7. I reinstalled my Windows and I try now to get my precious tabs back
brah-
when I go to open a link in a new tab, if I have existing tabs open that havent been used in awhile, firefox replaces the closest one instead of opening a brand new tab
how can I change this? it didn't use to do this
zpao
brah-: i assume you mean the recent minefield nightlies?
err no. that shouldn't be happening even there (misread what you said)
aliancemd
From what I know, he doesn't replace, he just move the tab to the right to place the new tab

jameson: What version of Linux?
You may have more luck on a linux channel, like #ubuntu.

hi, ive got a friend who isn't very good with computers; her computer at work requires an administrator access to install flash for her browser, and she can't get the password for security reasons--- so i told her that id email a portable browser to put on a usb stick that had flash installed. can this be done with portable firefox? (shes hot)
basically i need to email a version of firefox that installs with flash already installed and configured so she doesnt have to go down a list she won't be abe to follow anyway
and its gotta be portable so she can run it as a non-administrative user
Lazure
i love the 'she's hot' bit. i am not sure if that will work tho. since flash is installed via a plugin to the entire system (for other browsers to use as well)
i've never tried it tho!

i just installed the latest firefox tarball (3.6.3 - spanish version) on my wife's computer and it locks up or crashes a lot - mandriva 2009.1 kernel 2.6.31.5-desktop-1mnb i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2200

purpley
IS there a way to view where a live flash stream is coming from?
gavin
I don't really see the problem with join/part spam when no one is around saying anything anyways :)
purpley
I need the direct url to the stream not the website with the embed stream
I tried a link extractor but that didnt work
http://wwitv.com/tv_channels/b4802.htm thats the website with the stream I want
m4t
anyone using 3.6.x on linux/sparc
well, it dies with 'Bus error' everytime a Persona is hovered over

I have Firefox 3.5 on OS X 10.6. I recently downloaded an update to DownThemAll. Now Firefox won't start. Any ideas?
Cork
richardcavell: try starting firefox in safe mode
firefox -safe-mode
richardcavell
Cork: ok. How do I do that?
Cork
(while firefox is closed)
completly closed
richardcavell
Cork: thank you very much
I have disabled my add-on
and it's working now
Cork
nice
richardcavell
(Firefox is working)
the add-on isn't
I guess I should file a bug report if I'm the first person to get this
Cork
richardcavell: might be worth checking in a new profile if it still breaks
so you know if its a combination of settings/addons that causes it
richardcavell
Well it's currently disabled
actually I just re-enabled it from my current profile and it's working without explanation
The matter admits of no explanation, said the Machine
alright gang
thanks for the help

hi! how do I turn off the extra adress row space stealing domainname against colored background before the url in ff3.6 ?
I would love to have only the icon and the url in the url-field to be able to see longer part of long urls. no secure-blahblah, no star, no down-arrow, no rss........
I guess I should try google
aoupi
is there anyway to hide the icon in the searchbar?
(like google logo)
bobo1
aoupi: there seems to be no folks with answers awake here right now :-(
aoupi
bobo1: I commented out <Image> element in /usr/lib/firefox-addons/searchplugins/en-US/google.xml
that kinda worked :)
bobo1
ah
yeah I guess everyhing is in an xml-file somewhere
aoupi: I wonder if that is the way I must use to turn off all the crap in the adress-field too? (securehttps-domainname, star, down-arrow, rss ...)
qq[IrcCity]
hello. what causes may lead to incorrect interpretaion of width= and height= attributes of the <a/> tag? say, I have <a & width="872"/>, but Firefox rescales it to width more than 1280.
when width= and height= are not specified, images displayed correctly 1:1. browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing is now off (does not help), browser.display.screen_resolution also does not matter. Firefox 3.6, Linux, X Window.
aoupi
I don't think <a> has any width/heigh attributes
qq[IrcCity]
oops.
I was wrong. <img> tag.
aoupi
ah
qq[IrcCity]
should I repeat the question correctly?
aoupi
try with width="872px"
so it doesn't use some other unit
px should be default though
qq[IrcCity]
but it is not a trouble with my website, it is a trouble with my browser, when I browse to e.g. MediaWiki pages.
aoupi
ah
link to broken page so I can see if it fails here too
and make sure you are not zoomed in
qq[IrcCity]
there are not some broken pages. all pages, e.g. at commons.wikimedia.org look incorrectly. and not only commons, of course.
aoupi
(ctrl 0 to unzoom)
qq[IrcCity]
thank you, it helped.
aoupi
cool :)
qq[IrcCity]
how this nasty mode was switched on?
aoupi
if you hold ctrl and scroll
you zoom
qq[IrcCity]
maybe. but why it persisted over many restarts?
aoupi
I think it remembers how zoomed you are
qq[IrcCity]
and is there some way to ban image resizing on Ctrl-+? it performs it regardless of browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing value.

Does anyone know of a add-on that makes the addres and bookmark bars behave like on an iphone, meaning when you scroll down a page they scroll away as well?

I'm having problems with downloading files and attachments in firefox and thunderbird.
Just installed, so it's really weird.
Firefox just deletes the file after it's downloaded. Thunderbird saves the file but with 0 bytes in it.
I have no clue what's wrong. Really need help.
I don't use any anti virus software.

Hey all, I've tried Googling around but couldn't find anything specific. I'm seeing different font-weights in FF 3.6 versus 3.5 and am wondering if it's documented anywhere? :(

Hey, is there a way to change the "change tab" key bindings for Firefox?
In Windows it's ctrl-number
but I dual-boot, and prefer the alt-number way in Linux.
They use the same profile.

anyone know code to make a page refresh one time when the user hits the back button
kbrosnan
set no-cache headers. append a unique id to the page.
lordofknights
I tried setting no-cache headers. What do you mean by unique ID?
kbrosnan
lordofknights
sorry for being a noob, but how would I do that?
kbrosnan
i would guess some sort of re-write rule and some sort of cache or db listing currently used strings. then if you see a string that is non-unique you force it to get a new page.
or you could do something with a cookie I would think
a html discussion forum would be better at explaining that

hey ppl, anyone knows when firefox 3.6 will be added into the official ubuntu repos?
Trek
progre55, only after its proved stable by the devels
progre55
Trek: isnt it stable yet?
Trek
progre55, the repos arent updated constantly
progre55, and they like to do some testing
kbrosnan
it is stable, ubuntu liek most distros tightly controls upgrades
firefox 3.6 will be in 10.04
progre55
then I assume it will be in the next ubuntu release, on the april 29th..
cause 3.5.8 is kinda buggy, and I dont really like it
3.5.6 was much better

so what is so awesome about chrome compared to firefox again? chrome uses less ram ?
to me chrome seem to uses *more* RAM ... hogging lots right away whereas ffox does it gradually :)
it's true fox is loosing market share back to ie8 and probably and to chrome ... but not on non-Windows platforms :P

Hi. I have a weird, sudden problem in my firefox in Ubuntu. Last night I noticed some problems: I had no history. I typed in a partial URL and nothing popped up. I can't make ANYTHING at the top of the browser work. The buttons like Home, Reload, etc. work but none of the drop down stuff works. I can't open the folders in my bookmark bar, I can't drop down my history, I can't drop down adblock's dropdown, etc. I can't open any drop down like
File or Edit at the menu bar. Also, I can't right click anywhere in the browser but it works in other programs
