hi, does anyone know which file i need to edit to add an entry to the context menu in Fx 3.6?
lazko
Hi, how can I keep firefox from opening tabs from last time? I want to disable sessions.
Jids
is Firefox still open?
( lazko )
lazko
No.. I close with tabs open, or what usually happens.. firefox crashes or I kill it because its eating all my ram/cpu, restart firefox and it tries to open 70+ tabs simultaneously. Very rarely do I get the "well this is embarrassing" page.
Jids
hmm it worked that way for me and then i killed it again and now it's showing the embarrassing page
lazko, what happens when you kill it after restarting it?
and then you restart it again? does it again try to open all your tabs?
qubit
is there any way to move the location of the linux location of edit->preferences to tools->options?
Jids
does anyone know which file i need to edit to add an entry to the context menu in Fx 3.6? or can anyone write the code that will allow me to add a bookmark to the right-click menu?
teadict
what's the latest nightbuild version?
I've got 3.6.5pre, is that it?

kbrosnan
teadict: that is a nightly for 1.9.2, there is a trunk 1.9.3
qubit
nevermind to my question. found a centos repo so I could upgrade to 3.6 and use the menu editor plugin
JodaZ
when will firefox support slider input element?
Kovensky
I suppose firefox does transparency through ARGB Visuals on X11?
(Action) has no compositing :(
SirTopHat
Firefox seems to be taking more memory as time goes on.
about 50 kb every three seconds.
It was at about 700 MB until I restarted it.
I did and now it's growing again
andy_t_roo2
is it possible to temporarily mute firefox, to mute specific tabs, or to mute flash?
TannerF
Sometimes you can mute flash
andy_t_roo2
i've just installed "flashMute" but it didn't seem to have any effect (win xp, fx 3.6.x)

tripleb

Hi guys
So tell me, how do I play H.264 in FF?
Am I left to a Flash plugin?
madjoe
does anyone know why my Namoroka keeps freezing shortly after loading...
I even created a new profile, uninstalled add-ons, ran the browser as admin... nothing - same issue
ne0futur
hi all, is there an addon to limit the bandwidth allowed for firefox ?
or at least to limit the bandwith allowed for flash plugin
each time my wife goes on a flash game using internet is like hell
poutine
ne0futur, Have you tried yelling at her?
ne0futur
poutine: I hate flash but my wife still have the right to play flash games
a friend of mine disables flash on all the computers in his home , his bill for eletricity went down 10 % but . . . war with wife and childs . . .
poutine
Well, here our internet is more than ample to play 2, or even 8 flash games at one time, but if there was an issue in bandwidth management, you would tell the wife that she can only play her games at 4am on sundays, or something similar
ne0futur
yes here i have 1mb/s and flash takes all, and yes I ask my wife tu play it mostly when I m not working
but a firefox addon limiting bandwidth for firefos, or at least for flash
would be much better
theres an addon for this but only for windows
no addon for bandwidth limiting working with linux ;(
poutine
ne0futur, http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/Bandwidth-Limiting-HOWTO.html
ne0futur
I cant do this
and I think it could be a good feature for firefox for many users
but thanks for the URL
the most simple thing I found is trickle ( http://monkey.org/~marius/pages/?page=trickle ) but its not workig well with a binary firefox

poutine
this is a linux machine, that document pertains to linux setups
why can you not do those?
Also why can you not use router-based limiting, like QoS on most linksys, dlink, netgear, etc routers
ne0futur
eeepc / 4 GB / xandros
yes Aos on the router could be an answer
poutine: anyway this is not an answer to my initial question
QOS is not a firefox addon
thanks for your help but sorry its not helping me
( router is not mine, its a share internet connection in a poor country, I can acces the router and I could do it , but It would not be fair )
thanks, bye
dv-
Hi. I aborted firefox when it was updating, and now it just hangs when I start it. What now?
kbrosnan
dv-: re-download

SirTopHat
andy_t_roo2 you can mute all of firefox in the sound settings

Anyone experience flashing black bar on webpages? it only happens in firefox
http://forums.opensuse.org/get-help-here/applications/425209-firefox-bug-flashing-black-bar.html
that might be it
that was it

stoopid question: what is the AltOpt key ? (also AltCmd, CtrlCmd, etc.) ?
TannerF
There isn't one on the US keyboard
a23
so all shortcuts that use them dont work ?
kbrosnan
TannerF: alt/opt likely
TannerF
oh
alus
is there a polite bit of javascript which will encourage the user to firefox if they are not running it?
I'm thinking about adding it to my site
s/to firefox/to install firefox/
Cork[home]
alus: well you could check the browser variables
kbrosnan
most things like that are aimed at ie 6
Cork[home]
ya
ie is more or less the only black sheep :)
alus
I could write it myself, sure, but I was wondering if there was something more tested / official
Cork[home]
alus: jquery has some nice functionality for that
alus
I would actually like to display this to Chrome users
Cork[home]
and there are smoe other nice script examples out there
http://www.google.vom/search?q=javascript+detect+ie+6
woops
http://www.google.com/search?q=javascript+detect+ie+6
kbrosnan
mind you suggesting Opera, chrome, safari users to install firefox might annoy them
alus
well, I want something polite
but I do want to present it to them.
Cork[home]
well a simple "works best in" could work
but you don't need js for that
alus
I'd like to limit it to some browsers, though
kbrosnan
mozilla discourages such language
alus
what does mozilla recommend?
Cork[home]
make your page work with all modern browsers
alus
heh
Cork[home]
its not hard
alus
the problem is not all browsers, it's all networks
kbrosnan
show a fiefox button for non-firefox? http://www.spreadfirefox.com/affiliates
alus
lots of non-transparent proxies and applications screw with the page, causing errors
firefox and ie report these errors with window.onerror
Cork[home]
uh.. what does that have to do with browsers?
alus
Chrome does not support this
Cork[home]
you can get errors in chrome too
alus
how?
Cork[home]
well you would have to dig into the jquery lib, but i know they have it
alus
that's too late
Cork[home]
it is?
alus
some of these errors are syntax errors parsing javascript, including jquery
Cork[home]
from proxies??
alus
yup.
most people don't know this, because no one collects these stats!
try it. it's fascinating
also, something like 1% of requests for javascript includes fail!
Cork[home]
uh... no
this isn't correct
alus
even though the page loaded. higher raters with different dns names
yes, it is
at least for my site
Cork[home]
that would break alot of pages for me, and i know they work as they should
alus
the distribution is important here.
Cork[home]
they are monitored and tested
same here
alus
tested how?
Cork[home]
by a system called noc
alus
they might work 100% for you, but they do not work 100% for all users
Cork[home]
well the scripts load and works for the one visiting at least
can't say anything else
alus
you can do external synthetic monitoring you want -- but if the browser says it failed, it failed
+if
Cork[home]
thats mostly caused by errors in the code, never seen anyother problems; and defenitly never caused by proxies...
alus
nope, this is not errors in the code. I tried with a blank file
it might not be proxies causing this 1% failure. my guess is actually timed out dns requests and sockets and stuff like that
network congestion, and failures
Mio
hi, i have a problem
my bookmarks toolbar wont seem to open
i've tried right clicking and checking/unchecking it, but nothing happens
tripleb
Ubuntu 9.10 -- firefox is much better behaved since the recent update. (Unless the No-Flash addon is keeping memory under control. That addon means many fewer flashes loaded.)

Greetings
I am somewhat puzzled. I am looking for the mail files under thunderbird, so I can back them up, but I cannot FIND them. I am running XP...and help?

does firefox has a maximum execution time limit on a post request?
I am a web developer, and I've set all the correct serverside config for a post upload supporting up to 2gb...
it times by itself after a good 10 minutes though
it times out
is this a clientside issue?
the web browser?
does firefox have any limitations when it comes to this?
picachu
hey, ho do I tell FF to try IPv4 before IPv6 ?
unknown ipv6 records take painfully long to resolve here
alrighty
Pendrag0n2
I just installed windows 7 on a new harddrive, and have my old vista drive as E drive. I let firefox on the old drive always save my site passwords. Now I want to be able to have the new install of firefox access them. Where does firefox store passwords, and which file would I be copying from the E drvie to the C drive?
rjohnson19
Pendrag0n2: signons.sqlite, and I think you'll need key3.db and/or other *.db files to decrypt the passwords. It may be easiest just to copy / use the whole old profile.
These files are in your profile folder, see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile

ugh firefox is pissing me off. it will not remember it's size at all. somehow it opens maximise, but not really. and it's getting annoying. I even maximised it, then close but doesn't remember it when i reopen firefox
it likes to only take up half of the screen
