infid: hey. just came back to let you know it's all good now. the redirections have stopped and i upgraded to the latest FF anyway. i also installed "rkhunter" and have no rootkits.
i'm on wireless now
infid
make sure your wireless is wpa2 encrypted, not wep
did you run find / -type f -print0 | xargs -0 grep --color -i 'meningrey' 2>/dev/null
JodaZ
wep is secure !
auscompgeek
no it isn't
infid
like a condom with a hole in it
auscompgeek
infid: I don't think that comment was necessary...
infid
of course it wasnt necessary
v1k1ng
infid: we're using WPA here
infid
i'll try to keep it more G rated

v1k1ng
infid: apparently it's pretty hard to crack
infid
v1k1ng: you might also wanna look at the 'noscript' firefox add-on. it disables javascript by default on websites but lets you whitelist any trusted sites. default deny is always a good security policy, though a little bit of a hassle
v1k1ng
ok
but the weird thing was i'm absolutely sure i never went to that http://meningrey.net site
infid
malware works in mysterious ways
v1k1ng
hrmm
ok well just wanted to let you know all good now.
i should "hit the sack".
infid
'till you feel safe again, look over your shoulder'
v1k1ng
hehe. that is wise.
bye
gigawatt
im using the latest ubuntu and youtube and hulu keep crashing on me

hey, does anyone know if there is a way to tell firefox to always save URLs that it fetches that mathes a certain regexp or something? like suppose i want firefox to always save images on any page that i view that match the rexegp [A-Z]{3}.PNG or something without having to explicity save it
kbrosnan
sounds something like a proxy would be good at
Ganymede
or better yet, is there a way to ask firefox to keep a log of every HTTP GET that it executed? then i can get the list of URLs and manually look through it for the URLs that i want to fetch
i have set up a squid proxy before...but just in its stock configuration
hmm...maybe i can get the list of URLS from its log file...?
infid
they're probably relative urls though
like apache's access log
cause get requests do the Host: then go relative like GET /foo/bar.jpg
Ganymede
this is what my squid log looks like: http://pastebin.com/EKU9AQd3
i guess i can just grep out my URLs from there and wget them (although that wouldn't always work in case there's authentication and cookies involved) for my purposes it happens to work out
only issue with this is that i'd be downloading the files twice, once in firefox, once in wget...ideally they sohuld only be downloaded once but i geuss that's a minor issue
infid
maybe wget -c
Ganymede
OR maybe i can get the proxy to cache the files and then when i do wget, it'll come off the cache
infid
nothing will be perfect since the servers can always tell proxy's to always revalidate, and other server issues. you could also have more of a script that does its own checking, like comparing file sizes or hashes to what you already have and only download if it varies
Ganymede
yeah...that's a bit too long of a process for what i'm trying to do...i'd rather take the hit of downlaoding them twice
it's not really my bandwidth i'm worried about, it's putting unecessary load on the server
infid
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/HTTP_Logging#Logging_HTTP_Activity
Ganymede
thanks, i'm trying to get it into an easy to use format
k, i got it so that it only logs HTTP requests...but host and relative path are on separate lines...this makes a bit harder to script through... =/
alright, i got it to do what i want...now if i go into private mode, it doesn't WRITE to the cache...but does it read from the cache? or must i clear the cache to force firfeox to re-get every thing so my log file fills up with the http requests?

Why do people keep saying firefox uses so much memory?
http://media.bestofmicro.com/F/G/240316/original/memuse10tabbrowsergp.png
FIREF0X
(Action) is installing the updates i didn't ask you about and then i'll start a new session and you can just cry that you lost your session that just crashed
blendmaster1024
(Action) was just burned bad by that
it did that to me
infid
firefox is using about 1gb right now vs 500mb for chrome, according to htop but i have 20 addons and 30 tabs open in ff, and no addons and 2 tabs open in chrome
Gryllida
ff uses twice more memory and 15 times more tabs
Great performance, isn't it?
infid
i dont care if ff isnt highly optomized because it's useable for me because of the 20 add-ons i use that i couldnt have in other browsers
plus i have 8gb of ram
it hasnt crashed on me in months
Gryllida
Firefox is great, right?
What is your question?
__doc__
1) message "Your browser has been updated and needs to be restarted [Restart] [x]" -> 2) click [x] --> 3) 1 second delay --> 4) goto 1
wtf is [x] good for if clicking it is of no use?!
vdv
hi all
i'm extracting firefox-3.6.3.source.tar.bz2 tarball and it creates mozilla-1.9.2 directory, is that normal??
putrycy
Hi! I don't know how to ask google about what I mean. I don't even know if it is possible: I would like to write a plugin for firefox. But I really don't need to write C/C++ code. Instead I would like to be able to run some JavaScript code after page page was loaded. Is it possible? Could you point me out to some url/site?
vdv
what is namoroka??
is that the name of firefox-3.6.3 ??
jimi_
Sometimes in linux, firefox has a flashing bar, like i am highlighting and unhighlighting a box

is there ever going to be a fix for the problem that javascript can lock up/loop the browser indefinitely?
JodaZ
lol, deactivating the java deployment toolkit doesn't work here
you know, the one with the recent 0day
rjohnson19
didn't work? I think it worked for me, I couldn't get the demo to actually work with it running, though.
JodaZ
did you get the java popup ?
it took a while after that
rjohnson19
well with the deployment toolkit plugin disabled, I get nothing.
JodaZ
it doesn't disable here
i click disable and it either looks disabled till i restart, or it flickers right back to enabled
rjohnson19
with it enabled, I get the java popup and then it says "Unable to access jarfile \\lock.cmpxchg8b.com\calc.jar"
dunno why it wouldn't disable. but the description says you have to disable access to the dll with an acl...
JodaZ
yeah, removing the dll and it can be disabled
the acl thing is for server deployments
i suggest you apply the workarround too, because if it says unable to access, it tried to access, you know
rjohnson19
thats with the plugin enabled. I guess I could remove the dll. I have NoScript so i'm not too concerned about it.
Sajaki
hi, i'm having this issue http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?forumId=1&comments_threshold=0&comments_parentId=1452&comments_offset=40&comments_per_page=20&thread_style=commentStyle_plain
but i'm using the latest ff
on a mac
splashote
what about deactivated add-ons, do they still use ressources?
do deactivated add-ons consume resources?
poutine
well they definitely use hard drive space, which is a resource
splashote
ok, that's obvious but nothing I care about. they shouldn't make firefox slower.. do they? ;)
AzizLight
hi everybody
← and → are not the same size on Firefox (and it's really annoying). Is that a know bug and is there a fix please?
poutine
same size? this isn't a font issue?
AzizLight
I use Georgia
In Chrome/Safari the arrows are the same size
not in firefox
take a look at the bottom of this page for an example: http://uselessgeek.com/youjiii/wordpress/page/2/
poutine
they look the same to me
I like the nickname, 5th element reference eh
AzizLight
they look like this on my firefox: http://emberapp.com/azizlight/images/firefox-glitch/
thanks ;)
poutine
this is not seen in firefox 3.6.3 on windows
using default fonts
AzizLight
I use a mac
actually it's not a size problem. Firefox produces two different arrows..obviously the resulting ones are not the same size
....
poutine
I am not in any way associated with firefox in any sense, however I'd think this is purely a mac font issue
I can not authoritatively say that, I can say I cannot reproduce on firefox 3.6.3 and windows
AzizLight
Well what I can say is that this is an issue related to firefox on the mac since it works fine on Chrome and Safari. I pinned pointed the problem. Firefox acutallly fails to render a serif ← and thus always renders it with Arial instead

where do I type a path into the file save dialog?
or how
on linux
oh I guess I can just prepend it to the name
akiteko
Hi, I've found something really annoying in firefox 6. If you decide to not remember the history, firefox will not allow me to click on the Option->Clear recent History button
rjohnson19
3.6 and you are in never remember history mode? clearing history would make no sense, there isn't any new history being recorded.
akiteko
rjohnson19: Right but firefox6 associate the cookie deletion process to the history clearing
rjohnson19: So if you want to delete your cookies via this menu, you have to enable the history
There's still the possibilty to delete the cookies from the security tab in the preferences, but that's still regression I think
rjohnson19
Hm. you can still get the clear history dialog from the link on the privacy panel, when using never remember history.
akiteko
Uh, strange.
Well, that must be my fault, I'm glad this is will not affect anyone
SuperSnail
hey can I report a bug here?
It's really weird so I need some people to confirm it.
Its a bug with minefield(are there any special rules to report these?
}ls{
under openSUSE I played with some versions of amaroK. inally I can't start my firefox anymore. It gives me: /usr/lib/firefox/firefox: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgnome-2.so.0: undefined symbol: g_malloc_n
What can I do?
SuperSnail
that's a physical impossiblity.
Gnome isn't used by amarok.
rjohnson19
SuperSnail: nothing special compared to other firefox versions, things can go wrong more often though, you'll have to have some tolerance for errors.
SuperSnail
Well rjohnson it has to do with flashblock, which isn't supported at all. When you have flashblock forced compat on minefield, and you open a flash movie, and you allow it to run, it will sync, run 1 minute, then restart and run all the way.
It is my opinion that this is the result of some otherwise un-seen code functioning strangely deep within the dark core of gecko.
rjohnson19
if the add-on isn't marked as compatible then it could just as easily be a bug in flashblock.
SuperSnail
Secondly, I have a bug with thunderbird 3.0.4 on osx where it's always telling me to wait on the dammed folder to finish processing for the longest times. is anyone else getting this?
}ls{, your libgnome library located at the address given is a symbolic link to your system's default gnome library. Either the symbolic link has been changed to point to a different library or the gnome library it links to has been changed/replaced. Upgrade or replace your gnome installation to proceed.
}ls{
SuperSnail: thanks.
SuperSnail
When I was your age we built our symbolic links and installed them by hand :-P
}ls{
really? When I started there were no such things like links.....
SuperSnail
not sure if serious...

Is this a good place to ask about using browser.xul within a webpage?
...
rjohnson19
don't really know what you mean by that, but try #extdev on irc.mozilla.org
Cyber_Akuma-Lapt
Hey guys, my friend had somebody install the yahoo toolbar on their install of Firefox, I uninstalled it both from ad/remove programs AND from firefox's plugin uninstall option, but yahoo is STILL set as the default search engine and I can't seem to change it
