hey, can you open a firefox addon directly? E.g I often want to use chatzilla, so first I have to open firefox, then go tools > chatzilla
TannerF
mejobloggs: ask on irc.mozilla.org

javascript by default is allowed to create new windows and resize them; this is a bug. How can I correct this problem so that firefox exibits the correct behavior when told to create a new window and resize it?
pereba
Hi, someone here get this strange visual on addons.mozilla.com http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/4489/firefoxcrazy.png ? css changed by freak extension? any idea? lol
zjblabs, do you want disable new custom windows (popup)?
or enable it?
zjblabs
pereba: disable
Preferences -> content -> Javascript Advanced doesn't do diddly squat, by the way, that's another bug
pereba
hmm, with tabmixplus you can force popup go to new tab
let me see the about:config
zjblabs
oh, I've done it before, I just had to do about:config... :D
and I can't remember which setting it was
pereba
about:config -> browser.link.open_newwindow
hmm

zjblabs
should be?
and I think that's html links, not JS
pereba
better, change this browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction to 0 and test
zjblabs
wonderful, thank you
that option should be made graphical
pereba
;)
yeah, on gui
zjblabs
I do like noscript's block-*all*-javascript approach, but what I'd like to see is an extension (or, better yet, have it integrated in firefox) to correct the evil behaviour. Does something like this exist?
AlienDK
I like noscript
pereba
I prefer Adblock plus + YesScript
zjb, my installed extensions list http://testebr.dreamhosters.com/my_addons.html
zjblabs *
zjblabs
heh, nice "yesscript"?
damn, have enough extensions?
I've probably ever heard of maybe 2% of that list
uhsf
after updating to firefox 3.6, i noticed big gray play icons over flash videos. does firefox itself provide this play icon or is it one of my 10+ extensions?
also i noticed that sonystyle.com website is broken in Linux Firefox. could someone check if sonystyle.com is broken. it display a big empty space where there should be flash navigation
kbrosnan
sounds a lot like flashblock
and it is not the default behavior of firefox
uhsf
i don't have flashblock
i also disabled noscript i don't know what other extension causes this
kbrosnan
adblock?
graytech
I'm having a problem with firefox hanging for about a minuit anytime a password field is used in a form that is submitted. Can anyone help? I've tried everyting I can think of to resolve it.
uhsf
turns out my firefox uses some swfdec i never heard of instead of adobe flash player, i will try to find how to change this
funny that i never noticed that in about 6months
that shows how much i care about flash
kbrosnan: i don't use adblock either
graytech
hello ... can anyone help?
kbrosnan
uhsf: well me guessing is not wokring, start disabling extensions till it sarts working
uhsf
ah ok i had to uninstall swfdec and now adobe flash plugin is used instead
it was not extensions
it was swfdec the open source flash plugin
it was installed but i didn't know
one thing that is good with swfdec compared to adobe is that it' not blocking shortcut keys when pointer is hover flash

hi all
how do i get firefox to open new links in new tabs
dryicerx
why does firefox use british english for spellcheck even though the language is set as en-us? (been happening for a while, Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100216 Fedora/3.5.8-1.fc11 Firefox/3.5.8)
Peng
I guess Fedora uses the en-GB dictionary? Ask them.

dryicerx
Peng: no, every other application is en-us
Peng
So?
I meant to suggest that Fedora was doing something weird with Firefox's dictionary, not all dictionaries.
dryicerx
ooohh.. ok, I figured it out. Right click on a spell checked textbox, language, select "English / United States", for some reason by default what was selected was "English / Hong Kong" ...
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=194998 < looks like a fedora thing for some reason

hi all

Peng
The particular part of hte topic I was pointing out was the "if no one is here" bit.
lestatar
ah! i see...sorry...been a while since i did IRC...
room shows 50+ people
Peng
That doesn't mean they're active.
lestatar
got it...ok, thanks anyway
Peng
Maybe that will help. But probably not. I bet I could replace the topic with profanity and it would take a week for anyone to notice.
zophy
how do i get firefox to handle .jnlp files ?
Peng
.jnlp?
zophy
java network launch prtocol
java network launch protocol
welp, i .spose i can always clothe the jnlp in an html file
sybariten
Accidentally pressed "start new" instead of "restore old session" when FF asked me, after a crash where it restarted it self.....
...nothing i can do now i suppose?
Peng
sybariten: sessionstore.bak in your profile may still contain your old session.
sybariten
leeeeet's see.
i have a file like that, it's 230k
Peng
Make a copy of it before doing anything.
Check the modification time; how recent is it?
sybariten
I just did a copy of it :-D
s/did/made
Hm, its from 10-03-02 12:28
five days old.... but thats better than nothing
Peng: would you know how to restore it?
Peng
sybariten: Rename it to sessionstore.js while Firefox is closed.
sybariten
merci

Hi! I have firefox 3.5.8 on Fedora 12. Why does firefox pop up one enter-password-dialog for each tab that requires authentication, when all of those tabs require the same username/password for the same realm? Why isn't there one per realm? It's really annoying to have to enter the same password n times ...
lugzer
hi
anyone experiencing hihg memory usage on 3.6? one tab open, no addons working in the background but still... that's on OSX
memory usage 50-70MB
Abbas-

lugzer
i just disabled all addons to see if one had some memory leak, but it's not that. must be a big
*/a bug
1 tab - 50MB
riza
Hey guys, question. I have a lot of bookmarks (in the thousands range). it seems that the more bookmark I have, the slower firefox gets, is there a workaround for this?
Abbas-
hmmm .. ok lugzar :x ..
i think i'll get more ram when i can
RAM: Used: 1521/3064MB (49% Load)
RavoxX

EoN
hey guys. i got a prompt about 'insecure content being served throuh secure site', and I can't remember if i cliekd 'show' or 'hide', but now i can't get the message back at all. is there some way i can 'undo' this setting, do i have to clear cache or something?
anyone know about an add on that can investigate this?
Peng
EoN: Well, those settings are stored in about:config (it's an URL), though I don't know the name. Filter for "warn" or somesuch.
EoN
Peng: ahh so it is! thanks! they're both set to true
Peng
EoN: Double-click to flip 'em
EoN
thanks Peng :) appreciated
Peng
(Um, there are lots of other similar settings. Don't change the wrong one.)
Actually, I wonder if it's possible to change them through the UI? I think it might be...
EoN
there is for the main setting, but security.warn_viewing_mixed.show_once looks suspicious
that might be what's 'caching' my answer
Peng
Likely. You should be able to find a description of the preference on Google.
(Actually, Google results for that one look pretty bad...)
Yeah, it's the right pref: http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries
EoN
awesome. looks like i've resolved the issue, and the fault infact lies with my terrible terrible client
he is very crap
thanks again for your help Peng, that was very handy to know :)

in the future I will be offline for an extended period; I've saved a ton of my normal reading using ReadItLater, which saves static local copies; but while reading, I will run into all sorts of hyperlinks I will want to click. what's the best way to save these links? in the past, for a few links, I just copied them to a text file; but that won't scale. (I can't use readitlater to save them, nor can I just hold onto to any page with a link to follow, ...
... because that screws up the whole 'one page after another' readitlater workflow)
any ideas?
Peng
gwern: I'd probably use a text file (it scales pretty well) or right-click -> bookmark this link.
gwern: Dunno how much it matches your ReadItLater workflow, though. :-\
gwern
Peng: hm. firefox will bookmark offline?
(Action) has never actually tried, and assumed it would error out like readitlater does
Peng
Bookmarks are local?
mand
hi
why doesn't clearing my cookies als clear my local domstorage?
isn't that a big privacy issue that nobody knows about domstorage and firefox secretly storing information
which the user isn't aware of?
gwern
Peng: I mean, 'firefox will permit storing URLs which aren't provably there' :)
Peng
gwern: Oh. Sure, why not?
gwern: Maybe recent versions have gotten too smart for their own good, but I've had no problems.

I think you want /topic
But you also probably want irc.mozilla.org if you're looking for anything Firefox-related.
swerve
yeah - wasn't sure if this was the user or developer channel
no ffox support here?
ss
Not really. #firefox on irc.mozilla.org is what you want.
swerve
ok thx
