Hello....how do I add telnet to Firefox so if I click on a link that is telnet://Some.Site.com...it launches telnet. Thanks
xUSSR
jeffreyf: are you too lazy to copy & paste address to terminal?
jeffreyf

mzz
I don't even understand what that was complaining about

I wish they'd come on moznet

Firefox's spell check fails to mark i as incorrect.. 'i' as a stand alone word should always be Capitolized
mzz
unless it's referring to the imaginary unit :)

who in Hells name uses Firefox for mathmatical operations?
Selveste1__
Hey out there, is there a nice and easy way to force FF to start in restore session tab? cause I have 8 windows and want to save them all, but not start them every time I wants to quick search the web, can it save my session and ask my to restore it if i wants ? like when it crashes ?
mzz
I don't know a sane way to get an extensionless firefox to do that
and I don't know of an extension to do that, but it sounds like the kind of thing that'd exist
Selveste1__
mzz: thanks for you input, if it don't exist then I have to make it, cause this makes my insane to load all that every-time i start FF

people asking for IE help in FX, windows in ubuntu :S
Lars_G
Hey all.
Question, does 3.6 lose/delete localeStorage for file:/// loaded files?
RenThraysk
does anyone know the minimum cpu that firefox targets?
xangua
the requirements are in firefox web, something like p3 or p4 i believe
RenThraysk
ah yes, p1 233
Gartral
firefox will run, albeit without any addons, on as little as a 133 p1
RenThraysk
explains it
xangua
¿¿
RenThraysk
video tag in chrome on anything less than a p4 will crash the page
whereas fine in ff
maybe a p3 is fine, but p2 fails & page becomes unusable
Lars_G
That's a mater of video playing and decoding, not ff per se
does 3.6 lose/delete localeStorage for file:/// loaded files?
it's true....
FF 3.6 is not preserving a .html's file localStorage if loaded over file://
Gartral
that makes FF useless for webdevs

RenThraysk
Lars_G, video plays fine in FF, just chrome fails as its complied with aggressive optimizations p4/sse
Gartral
it's more your computer failed for being so old >.>
RenThraysk
:P
just a test box with all beta/alpha/nightly browsers on it

archangle25: i thought thunderbird used a plaintext format. like mbox or something
if not you should probably be able to export to a friendlier format like that
archangle25
yeah thanks - i think it is mbox
muri_one
archangle25: in that case i'm sure there are lots of perl scripts out there that alredy know how to parse the format :)

hello, I had a question as to what it would take to write an add on dealing with tab management in firefox. What are the best tools to use for that?
oblib
Hi, I'm having some trouble starting firefox with irexec from LIRC. When I run firefox from the command line, other programs can open new tabs just fine (click a link in Thunderbird for example). When I start firefox with irexec, I get the "Firefox is already running" box. In both cases firefox is owned by the same user. What is firefox looking for that is not happening with irexec?
*clarification* If I start with irexec, and then try to open another link with Thunderbird, that is when I get the "Firefox is already running box"
Also, if I delete .parentlock after starting firefox with irexec, I can open a new firefox window, but obviously bad things happen with crash recovery, etc.
Hmm, I'll take my question to irc.mozilla.org...

Hello, looking for an addon that will allow me to save one or more sessions permanently, and manage them, anybody know of such a thing that has better control than the built in session saver?
Qb_Master
sooo firefox says it's gonna save my open tabs when I close it
but when I reopen it, it doesn't..
it just opens my homepage as if I didn't press save and quit
any ideas?

Anyone know how to turn of the "annoying" warning about "there is an update available, please update your minefield" ?
We're currently having a visual screen using WebGL, and it is abit annoying that the warning keeps popping up :)
Found some settings under app.auto.update and etc. Hope it helps :-)

hello, I have problems with defaultPref and security.warn_* settings, if I set defaultPref("security.warn_submit_insecure", true) in a system wide configuration and the user set it to false, at next firefox start this settings is reset to true
I found a note about prefs.js "compression" which is active by default but no way to disable it
in found it in https://developer.mozilla.org/En/A_Brief_Guide_to_Mozilla_Preferences#Preferences_Saving

in 3.5.3 on ubuntu is there a way to force all but .torrent filetypes to use the "Download Them All 1.1.8" addon by default? I know the whole deal of using the checkbox in the prompt, but that doesn't seem to want to work on file hosting sites like rapidshare or megashares or what have you, it still pops up the prompt, even with the checkbox checked so that unless I'm really quick on the draw I can't use DLTA as the download k

hi. I am testing a web server. Problem: a certain page was a 301 redirect, by mistake. Now I fixed this on the server side and restarted the server, but when I try to go to this page again, the old redirect seems to be stuck somewhere in Firefox cache
how to reload this page>
solved by clearing the last hour history, but there should be a better way
auscompgeek
I don't know why I bother coming here.

if i have an idea i want to propose to firefox how do i go about submitting the suggestion?
kbrosnan
mentioning it here is a good start
dehqan
in this folder .mozilla/firefox/orl8ldnp.default/bookmarkbackups firefox has .json bookmark how to use it in new fiewfox ?
Peng
dehqan: There's an import option in the bookmark manager. But why are you doing it at all? If you're moving to a different computer or something, why not just copy ~/.mozilla?
dehqan
peng thanks you should know that firefox runs from a extracted tarball in home folder , despite this will copying mozilla folder be useful ?
Peng
dehqan: What? The Firefox install is not related to your profile data in ~/.mozilla...
dehqan
peng firefox that is used is not the one that is installed in ubuntu default , humble got firefox tarball and run firefox script to use it
Peng
dehqan: OK. That doesn't matteer.
infid
why did firefox make opening the downloads window ctrl+shift+y instead of ctrl+j like it used to be?
or is that just the linux version
kbrosnan
just linux
pereba
Is it possible force firefox search for experimental addons updates?
infid
what's a good way to test if ctrl+shift+r actually reset the cache when you reloaded?
Peng
It did.
That's what it does. Why would it not do it?
kbrosnan
pereba: add the search bar item or use a keyword search
pereba
?
I'm talking about tools > addons > check for updates..
kbrosnan
go to addons.mozilla.org click the search dropdown and choose add 'mozilla add-ons'
no
pereba
I think you didn't understand me
1) addons installed on firefox
2) click to firefox check for updates
....
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Updating_extensions see "Effect of Experimental on extension updates"
"Experimental extensions are not automatically updated, nor are updates found from Tools, Add-ons, update forcing you to check for updates by going to the add-ons own page."
understand now?
kbrosnan
if you had read that then https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375359 explains why mozilla won't do that
pereba
workaround http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/11897/monitor-updates-for-experimental-add-ons-in-firefox/
dehqan
peng so bookmarks are saved in ~/.mozilla ?
and will not be lost ? in new ubuntu can be used ?
Peng
dehqan: Bookmarks are saved in ~/.mozilla, unless Ubuntu renamed it to ~/.iceweasel or something, but it's easy to work around that with a symlink.
dehqan: And yes, you can copy it to another computer.
dehqan
peng where are saved bookmarks ? how new firefox use them ? is it automotic or should be imported ?
can see some here .mozilla/firefox/orl8ldnp.default/bookmarkbackups
Peng
@_@
dehqan: Yes, you could use one of the backups, though they obviously may not contain the very latest data.
dehqan: Bookmarks are stored in .mozilla/firefox/orl8ldnp.default/places.sqlite.
dehqan: Why don't you just copy the entire ~/.mozilla over?
