The one that said "Active download"
Hello
metalfan_
hi
http://www.looduskalender.ee/node/2139 any idea what firefox plugin plays back the stream?
kbrosnan
metalfan_: mms:// is windows media player
metalfan_
no other choice?
kbrosnan
on linux one would need the correct codecs
and open it in totem, vlc, mplayer...
metalfan_
im on windows, but i dont like the mediaplayer
vlc doesnt open the stream
xangua
mplayer also has a fx plugin
kbrosnan
it is a file with a protocol specified, you would need an external player xangua
metalfan_: vlc 1.0.5 works for me
though the only thing moving atm is the clock in the upper right
metalfan_
oh, im still on .3
thx

hey
what is the about page for the firefox restore feature after it crashes?
for some reason it didn't recover one of my pages
er, windows
hoping i can launch it back from there
rjohnson19
about:sessionrestore, but if it didn't get saved in the session before the crash, it isn't going to be there now, actually it'll just be the tabs/windows you have open now afaik.
sega01
rjohnson19: thanks but it's not there now :-(
GaiusOctavius

I have been searching for HOURS but cannot seem to find anything, yet everything I read still shows this should be possible. A couple years ago I used a firefox plugin that would toggle a forms input field from enabled to disabled and from disabled to enabled. I am looking for such a plugin again. Any suggestions?
kbrosnan
greasemonkey + the corect script should be able to do that
viralguy
that would involve knowing js I assume =/
thanks for the suggestion though. I guess I will have to keep searching cause I know one exists somewhere
kbrosnan
there are saved script at userscripts.org

Evening. In my stupidity, I chose to accept a warning box that said "accept all applets from this website". I don't recall the exact wording. I wish to turn that off. How can I do that?
viralguy

Hello, looking for an addon that will allow me to save one or more sessions permanently, and manage them, anybody know of such a thing that has better control than the built in session saver?
OttifantSir
How do I only get rid of select extensions/plugins/addons in a Firefox-profile that won't start? 3.6.2pre on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
Cork
start in firefox safe mode
firefox -safe-mode
OttifantSir
Thank you for that. Now to see which search plugin I have to get rid of to make it run normal again.
Xeon
Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.
how can i remove this msg?
it is always displayed when start firefox.
bug2000
Xeon: Close firefox correctly?
Xeon
bug2000: it was caused by abnormal shutdown. but i could not remove it.
bug2000
Xeon: So you did try to open firefox and close it.
That solved it for me, so I have no idea.
Xeon
yes. it seems this msg is stored in registrar database.
by the way i am on winxp.
mzz
are you 100% positively absolutely sure you've closed the tab that message is in and firefox did shut down normally afterwards?
my first guess at a cause is firefox being unable to write to sessionstore.js in your profile folder for some reason
Xeon
mzz: the msg is not in any tab, the msg is shown on top of "restore" and "new session" whenever startiing firefox.
mzz
Xeon: got any extensions replacing the normal session manager, and which version of firefox is this?
Xeon
no idea about session manager. the version is 3.5.7
mzz
(Action) tries to remember if 3.5 had about:sessionrestore yet
I guess there's an easy way to find out
Xeon: can you enter about:sessionrestore in the address bar and tell me if you get the same thing?
Xeon
yeah. that is the msg shown every time!
mzz
ok
Xeon: did you click either "start new session" or "restore" at least once?
Xeon
so . how do i get rid of ?
mzz
(Action) isn't sure that page actually goes away if you ignore it and enter an url in the address bar instead of using one of those buttons
Xeon
mzz: i tried click both buttons.
mzz
ok
Xeon: do you currently have any tabs open you need firefox to remember?
Xeon
no
mzz
oh, bah, chatzilla
Xeon: you're talking to me from firefox now?
Xeon
yeah
mzz
Xeon: do you know how to locate your profile directory?
Xeon
is it chatzilla causing it?
mzz
no
Xeon
where is profile?
mzz
Xeon: but I was about to tell you to exit the browser completely, which loses your connection here if you're using chatzilla
so I have to explain this in a different order because of chatzilla
Xeon: which os are you on?
Xeon
winxp
mzz
firebot: windows profile
firebot
mzz: The windows profile folder is a subfolder of the directory that opens when you hold the Windows Key and press R, then paste in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
mzz
(low-tech proxy to a bot on a different network)
so locate that please
Xeon
mzz: i am lost. locate what?
mzz
Xeon: the folder described by firebot just now.
(Action) really needs to set up an actual proxy, this manual proxying is a little confusing
Xeon
mzz:
yes i get it
mzz
Xeon: ok. There should be a file called sessionstore.js and one called sessionstore.bak in there. Do you see those?
Xeon
yes. not only these two but also sessionstore-1.js to sessionstore-11.js 11 files
mzz: so i have to delete all those?
mzz
Xeon: ok. What I want to try is move all of those out of there after you've exited firefox
Xeon
ok
mzz
I'd expect firefox to get moderately confused if you do that while it's running, so use file -> exit to exit it first. Then restart it a few times and see if the issue went away
if that doesn't do it it really is crashing on exit and we get to debug that
Xeon: (so I was expecting you to drop off of irc, since file -> exit should've killed chatzilla too :)
Xeon: (you should've exited firefox completely, not just closed browser windows)
Xeon
no. i am still on chatzilla
firefox window is closed. i clicked the window close button
there is one problem: one of sessionstore-3.js cannot be moved.
it says something corrupted with this file.
mzz: this time the msg disappeared
mzz
yes, because you never exited firefox
Xeon
mzz: how do i delete the corrupted file?
mzz
again: please use file -> exit to exit (this will exit chatzilla too). *then* move away all those sessionstore files.
if you did not use file -> exit to exit I am fairly certain firefox is still running, just with no normal browser windows open
there we go :)
Xeon
mzz: the two session files regenerated.
mzz
that's correct
Xeon
it seems the problem goes away
mzz
restart firefox once or twice and see if the message stays away
Xeon
thanks, mzz
mzz
also, if you still can't move one of them run a filesystem check

hi I joined #sunbird but no one was there to help would anyone here be able to help?
Alaric`
Hey folks ... I'm running Firefox 3.6 on two machines, one running XP Pro SP3, one running Gentoo Linux. On the Gentoo box, the Get Add-ons button has disappeared from the Add-ons window. I've already verified that it's missing in safe mode too. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it back?
mzz
hmm
Alaric`: lemme see if I can fire up a gentoo firefox and see if it's missing there
augustl
http://jsfiddle.net/n3jTK/ - with firebug disabled, the exception is thrown (seen in the normal error console). When firebug is enabled, the exception is swallowed. Can I change this behaviour?
I have lots of logic happening in callbacks that are called when ajax requests finish, so the exception swallowing is kind of annoying..
mzz
Alaric`: works for me. Is it still missing in a fresh profile (firefox -P -no-remote)?
Alaric`
just a sec, let me check that
mzz
augustl: that sounds like a firebug bug...
augustl
found it - I have to tick off "Show XMLHttpRequests" in the console tab
Alaric`
mzz, yeah, it's present in a new profile
augustl
mzz
fishy
Alaric`: can you exit firefox, copy prefs.js and localstore.rdf from your main profile to your fresh profile (overwriting what's there) and see if it's now gone in the fresh profile?
Alaric`
lemme check.
kbrosnan
augustl: report it to the firebug devs http://groups.google.com/group/firebug
Alaric`
yup, if I copy those two, it's gone. So next step, I guess, is to diff prefs.js against a new profile and see what's different there; is there a tool I can use to examine .rdf files?
mzz
Alaric`: next up is to exit firefox, remove localstore.rdf in the fresh profile, and start it again
Alaric`: shouldn't be anything critical in there, and what's there is independent of prefs.js
augustl
kbrosnan: done, thanks
Alaric`
OK, one sec
still missing
implying it's somewhere in prefs.js
aha! THIS looks highly suspicius:
er, suspicious:
user_pref("extensions.getAddons.showPane", false);
I wonder what turned that off......?
not surprisingly, setting that to true fixed the problem
(also took the opportunity to clean out a bunch of prefs left behind by extensions I don't have installed any more)
mzz
huh
I don't see any code in firefox toggling that explicitly (but my search isn't *that* thorough)
Alaric`
one other question, then: Textboxes in HTML forms are coming up by default in a fixed-pitch font in 3.x. I can't figure out any way to make FF3.x use a variable-pitch font there. Do you happen to know how to change that?
mzz: I'm assuming it was an unintended side-effect of some add-on
mzz
looks like icecat might turn that pane off
Alaric`
(the get-addons pane, that is)
what's icecat?
mzz
not something you use, apparently
just came up when I googled for the pref
Alaric`
ah, I see, another rebranded FF
hmm ... has an option to block web bugs
which is noted to be present in FF as well, but the UI to select the option was missing from 2.0
presumably, then, NoScript uses that existing functionality and just provides a UI to turn it on
Athen
is there a way to see what page requested an 'authentication required' popup ?
harovali
some friends of mine who have their windows machine affected with a virus , experimented a strange change in firefox, which I'd like to determine if is due to the virus or some "mouse-typo" that disabled the location toolbar , and other "menu" components. ANy hint , please ?
kbrosnan
harovali: might be possible, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+troubleshooting covers a number of good troubleshooting steps
harovali
kbrosnan: thanks
btw , the issue went away on its own !
the widgets got activated
