hello guys, when I open my history
to clear my porn stuff and I select all the links
or try to do a search it gets white
and blocks itself for up to 2 minutes
rjohnson19
g_: places.sqlite in your profile folder, but maybe you'll just want to do an export through the UI.
notk0
was that for me rjohnson19 ?
rjohnson19
notk0: what version of Fx is this?
notk0
rjohnson19, latest it updated itself like a few days ago
rjohnson19
notk0: although 3.6.x is supposed to do vacuums automatically, try this: http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2009/08/vacuum-firefox-databases-for-better-performance-now-with-no-restart/

notk0
thank you, also is there a easy way to clear my porn history? or to disable history cause I don't use it
rjohnson19
notk0: What do you think Private Browsing mode is for? Or maybe you didn't know about it? ;)
notk0
rjohnson19, how do I do that?
rjohnson19
notk0: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Private+Browsing, also read the links on clearing private data
notk0
ok one more thing
you know when you enter like your username and it saves it for auto-complete?
rjohnson19
yes?
notk0
I don't like it when I try to search something and I get my usernames in that list or stuff to that regard
how do I clear it?
or disable it?
rjohnson19
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Clear+Recent+History
https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Form+autocomplete#Prevent_Firefox_from_storing_form_entries
notk0
rjohnson19, I don't need to clear all history oh sorry I read the link till the end thank you
rjohnson19
you're welcome
raboof

rjohnson19
I don't quite understand, but you can find your profile using: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles?#How_to_find_your_profile

on the latest firefox, there is a setting "open windows in new tab instead" We have an application that really does want to be opened in a new window when it launches. Is there a way to prevent this when writing our javascript window.open call?
notk0
Matson, a tab is like a "window"
Matson
basically, when a user clicks download, we send them a java applet download manager. this really works best in it's own window
notk0
Matson, it should be possible I get plenty of ads that open in a new window
Matson
the functionality works fine in a tab, it just looks bad
lol
notk0: do you use 3.6.2 with "open new windows in new tab instead" selected?
under preferences -> tabs
notk0
Matson, no :P
I was talking about older versions

Matson
older versions was what we were testing against
our model breaks in 3.6.2
notk0
Matson, you know there are other browsers out there?
try to comply with standard HTML :P
Matson
we may need to update our display given that sometimes it will take a whole screen when the user forces the open into a new tab
??
of course.
notk0
:P
Matson
we test on mac, linux and windows, ff, safari, opera, chrome and ie
and > 99% of our pages pass w3c tests
so is there a way to open a new window in Firefox 3.6.2 when the user has a setting checked of "open new windows in a new tab instead"? (in preferences->tabs)

I'm trying to write my first firefox plugin, and I'm struggling to get the value of my text box into my javascript
Anyone have any wisdom ?
I've tried document.getelementbyid(foo).value

How come about:cache reports my memory cache as having 0 entries even though it's enabled in about:config, and also occurring when I disable disk cache?
I would like firefox to prefer memory cache over disk cache, since the disk is noisy and slow
for reference, my browser.cache.memory.enable is set to true, and browser.cache.memory.capacity set to 262144
rjohnson19
the majority of people get very upset with memory cache for undo close tab and such :)
Lorknirn
Why, what's wrong with it?
rjohnson19
"firefox is using 150mb on ram on my 4gb machine! unacceptable!"
Lorknirn
firefox uses 123 MB here, but I would like it to use more
:/
rjohnson19
Lorknirn: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454001#c1
Lorknirn
Every single google query I attempt to search for always results in a flood of "how to reduce firefox memory usage"
Hm
But now we don't store images in the memory cache anymore (bug 430061), so you
only see 2 or 3 MB of data inside for a normal browsing session.
Is there a way to revert this functionaliy?
I would like images, .flv, .swf etc to be cached to memory, not drive
Hm
I guess I could use a ~256 MB ramdisk and have firefox cache there
rjohnson19
i don't know that theres a way to do that in Fx. a caching proxy as suggested on moznet may be your easiest option
Lorknirn
Power got cut
Ugh

I need my firefox to stop crashing every time I close a tab

hi
is the ram consumption of Firefox similar on various OS (Win, Linux, BSD, Solaris, ...)?
What's mainly causing the ram consumption? Javascript, Flash, DOM tree population, rendering, ...?
Is it easily possible to tune the memory usage of Firefox?

Hello all
My windows has just been crashed.
Firefox3 was installed on it.
I'm working now with a live cd, and mounted all of my hard drives... How can I grab the bookmarks from the firefox? (While I cannot run it)
rjohnson19
crc-error: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile, you'll want either places.sqlite or the latest json file in bookmarksbackup, under your profile folder.
Peng
You might as well just copy your whole profile, though...
crc-error
Excellent thanks!
