szbalint
interesting...
Cork[home]
the rendering takes more time then the download here
GSF1200S
yeah, and im on an i7 so its prolly faster than most
Cork[home]
(old slow comp)
GSF1200S
how do I get firefox to open links that are external to my current page to open in the foreground instead of the background?
Cork[home]
the image is resized and antialized and that takes some time
GSF1200S: that should be default in any farly new firefox
szbalint
I'm on an amd dual core 5200, so possibly taking a longer time for that reason, however it's still weird that ff doesn't differentiate between download and render (I can see in wireshark that the tcp sequence vs time graph is all jagged seesaw like)
GSF1200S
yeah, it is. Something changed it though, and now I cant figure out how to get it back to default behavior
Cork[home]
GSF1200S: but extensions like tab mix plus change this

szbalint
(takes 12-15s to view the image for me, downloading during the full time)
GSF1200S
Cork, I think that tab utilities changed this, and now with tab mix plus back, it still does it..
just wondered if there was an about:config hack or something..
Cork[home]
GSF1200S: but you could check about:config browser.tabs.loadInBackground
szbalint
I'm just annoyed that any repainting/displaying activity has a serious effect on the download speed :\
GSF1200S
Cork: you sir are a scholar :) Thanks
Cork[home]
np
szbalint: why does it matter?
you can't see the downloaded image anyway
szbalint
displaying the image from cache takes ~1s for me, downloading it takes 2-3s for me, so I could see the image in 4-5s on this machine, instead of 12-15s it takes currently
that's a 3x difference :)
Cork[home]
szbalint when you first load the image firefox does more then just saving it, that data is then used when you render it from cache
szbalint
Cork[home]: yeah, that doesn't make much of a difference though, opening the image from file:// is about the same as the cached open
Cork[home]
hmm, thats strange
don't have a good answer to why that would happen...
szbalint
oh well, I'll dig into that tomorrow maybe.

I am having a problem with Firefox screwing up text when I scroll down using Xfce4 on Ubuntu
It doesn't happen when I drag the scrollbar itself to scroll.
Only when I use mouse wheel, or click the up/down buttons.
Or keyboard arrows.
Matisse
hi
is it somehow possible to restart a crashed flash plugin without restarting firefox?
TannerF
Matisse: Yes, just refreshing the page should work
Matisse
nope, doesnt
its all grey where the flash thing would be
TannerF
hm....
Matisse
and for every flash containing site

sorry if I am advertising

[reed]
you are advertising
please don't do that
especially when you're the only member of that group, so not sure why you say that group is anyway official at all
TannerF
[reed]: on moznet he said that "Mozilla knows about it"

hi
is there any plugin with which i can pull a tab from the browser to a new window? (as chrome can)
poutine
you drag the tab outside the window
wasup
ok, it doesnt give any visual feedback hinting
poutine
dunno what that means
wasup
look at chrome browser
poutine
looked at it, wasn't impressed, a lot due to the fact plugins like adblock plus can't exist because google has their hand in advertising
wasup
thats why i use ff :)
swulf--
i would like to launch a local application from a bookmarklet, is that possible?
kbrosnan
swulf--: no, bookmarklets run in the page content. if so then any web page could lauch programs on your computer
swulf--
that's why I ask ;)
is there a way to do it? it'd be convenient if i could push a button on my url bar/bookmark bar to launch an app with the given url
would it be difficult to write a plugin for this? i'd hate to set up hours of build systems and 10s of files just for a one/two line plugin
Tusk
hello since updated from 3.5 to 3.6 any addon else than noscript make firefox segfaulting if not run with -safe-mode
i have to start it once with -safe-mode then closing it then reloading it and can use it....
any idea?
kbrosnan
swulf--: you can use anything you have access to as a web page
Tusk: make sure you have the latest version? http://noscript.net/getit
Tusk
kbrosnan: i don't think than come from noscript cause even without it other addons make ffx segfault
but noscript is the only to work ok
kbrosnan
Tusk: well some extension is causing trouble
Tusk
kbrosnan: is there a list that doesn't work with 3.6?? i tried stylish, greasemonkey and fireftp
kbrosnan
no idea, you can disable all the extensions and re-enable them one by one
or in halfs if you have a large number
Tusk
ok thx

kbrosnan
adobe does not make shockwave for linux
daairsy
so how i can play that pinball ?
AlienDK
Adobe sucks
daairsy
so it is impossible to play pinball under linux with firefox?
kbrosnan
it is impossible to play shockwave games directly in linux
you could run a Windows VM or Wine with either Firefox (Windows) or IE

hi huys, just a curiosity, how can i associate mms protocol to the gecko-mediaplayer (firefox 3.6 GNU/Linux here) i googled a bit and i found this http://www.cinlug.org/node/316 is this the "best" way or there is a more clear/clean way? [well to be precice that way associate mms to mplayer or kaffeine where i prefer to have it in browser with gecko-mediaplayer]
since gecko-mediaplayer is just a firefox applet that uses mplayer to play videos and mplayer is able to handle mms protocol it should work, but how?
kbrosnan
[Enrico]
kbrosnan: oh thank you very much! do you think i can use it to display the video embedded in firefox with gecko-mediaplayer too?
kbrosnan
only for things that are sent as protocols
mms:// aim:// etc.
[Enrico]
kbrosnan: yeah that's whati want
kbrosnan: since gecko-mediaplayer already handle correctly the known protocols such as http
AlienDK
Sure, [Enrico]. "handle".
[Enrico]
kbrosnan: but it doesn't handle mms even if mplayer supports them
kbrosnan
firefox asks the OS if the os does not know about it then there are some fallbacks but they are not as good
AlienDK
Sure, kbrosnan. "asks".
Sure, adamgoucher. "joined".
[Enrico]
:)
