is there a way to disable strg + q in firefox?
dolske
what are strg and q?
r0fl
ctrl + q. sry
dolske
maybe from an extension.
r0fl
it's a gtk thing. it closes firefox
mzz
I don't know if the keyconfig extension also lets you disable existing bindings
kbrosnan
might be able to change it to something like ctr + @ or other unusual combo
using keyconfig
r0fl
another extension? it should be possible to do this with something in .gtkrc
is there a seperate .gtkrc-2.0 file for firefox as in pidgin?

Recently, when I open links in new tabs, they don't go all the way to the right, they go in some random order grouped next to my current page. How do I fix this?
Now this worthless peice of sh*t is crashing because it opened an mp3 with the quicktime plugin, when I just changed the settings to have it always save it
The save/open dialogue still opens anyway most of the time, it's like it chooses randomly

Ubuntu 9.10 - firefox asks me to upgrade but it just gives me some set of files, not an installer.
I have Javascript, tested yesterday here, but the igoogle page doesnt work. Youtube does.
The igoogle page tells me I need javascript AND has none of the gadgets in the corner of each gadget box.
kbrosnan
SirTopHat: you are looking for browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent

thanks for any help. I'll look in later. ----SUM--- MY PROBLEM: neither chrome nor firefox "gets" the javascript well enough to display the igoogle page. (Yes, javascript is there and youtube plays.) I've asked in #firefox for 2 days getting no further except to check javascript existence.)
NASTY, Firfox is very annoying - wont go to my inbox. And in ubuntu I CANT update as they want me to. Drive me to chrome will you!! http://tb.mail.yahoo.com/ytoolbar/configserver/ext/mail_interstitial/browserupgrade.php
see bi**hing works. After trying that and going back, I had my inbox.

I installed version 0.5.12 of a Tools/Extension package. Now there is a version 0.5.14, which I downloaded. How do I update/upgrade the one in Firerox.
auscompgeek
Didn't you press find updates in the addons dialog?
either way, Firefox recognises the .xpi extension.
stercor
I have the 0.5.14 .xpi. in my Download directory. How can I tell Firefox it's there or where should I move it for Firefox to see is.
s/is/it/
There's a Get Addons button. Is that the one?
auscompgeek
NO!
it's find updates
you can update all your addons without having to do it yourself.
stercor
Ah...I was looking in 'Get Add-ons'. The button you describe is in 'Extensions'. It didn't find the newer one.
auscompgeek

So, wait a a few days...
flamingspinach2
Hey, I'm having some extreme slowdown problems when trying to move my firefox window on a dual monitor setup. Other programs have no problem. Firefox 3.6, Windows Vista SP2. Any ideas what could be wrong?
auscompgeek
Vista :P
flamingspinach2
ehh, I have an upgrade CD for 7 lying around, haven't gotten around to using it yet though
stercor
auscompgeek: Thanks for your help. You saved me a whole lot of frustration! :)
auscompgeek
np ;)
stercor
Now if we could just have the programmers put them in the Firefox Extensions box as soon as they release them...
auscompgeek
You can drag an xpi onto Firefox as well.
remaxim
hi
I have a very strange problem with firefox/youtube ... is this the right place for it? or firefox only related support?
just FYI, I know that there are common problems with it. I just read a lot and didn't find anthing close to mine
auscompgeek
Well, it's Firefox, so ask away.
remaxim
auscompgeek, thanks ...
well the irony of how it works again ...
I ve worked for an hour on it and 1 minute after I asked I finally found the right answer myself :D
strangely I had to go into private mode (as it was advised to delete all cookies) ...
I wonder why there are so many different problems with youtube... I was advised to do many things like installing new flash and firefox versions, disable adblock etc
so thanks for your (will to) help :)
auscompgeek

How can I change Firefox' icon depending on the current profile?
auscompgeek
afaik you can't, but you could change the title bar text according to the profile.
jwa
yeah, but I still mix the icons in the taskbar on windows 7 :\ I don't display the window titles there
auscompgeek
...
jwa
I thought that would be possible by creating /chrome/icons/profileName/..
now you hate me because I use windows :)
auscompgeek
Don't worry, I'd use Linux but I don't have my own computer.
jwa
there's no matter because it wouldn't work on linux, either
tulcod
why can't i edit the entire page in web developer's edit html feature?
TannerF
edit html feature?
is it part of an addon?
tulcod
yeah, the "web developer" addon
TannerF
oh
tulcod
i can just edit the body of the page, that's it... it's pretty annoying
Zoot
is there a way to access more advanced settings for clearing history? when ff closes i would like it to clear the history - but i don't want it to shut down active tabs
jwa
tulcod: I'd prefer FireBug which comes with even more features than editing the whole DOM
tulcod
jwa: hm, i actually have that already, never realized i can edit html with that, too
jwa
Try it
tulcod
k, thanks
jwa
rightclick on an element and select edit HTML

Hi, i'm using Namoroka (version 64bits of firefox) anyone knows where can i find one flash player compatible?

no need to repeat your question every 5 minutes
x_Matrix_x
O sorry

linuxR
hello, recently there is some noise about a vulnerability in FF 3.6. Some sources say it would have been fixed in a current beta version, but there is no such info on bugzilla...can someone shed a little light on this? thanks
mzz
linuxR: can you be more specific? what "sources", what "vulnerability"?
linuxR
rjohnson19
that did end up being a real vulnerability, its fixed in 3.6.2 beta, see http://blog.mozilla.com/security/2010/03/18/update-on-secunia-advisory-sa38608/
mzz
yeah
rjohnson19
it hasn't been disclosed though, so theres not too much to worry about
mzz
linuxR: that secunia advisory links to http://blog.mozilla.com/security/2010/03/18/update-on-secunia-advisory-sa38608/ and that links to a 3.6.2 beta build which has it fixed
linuxR
why is there no bug report with bug description and patch?
mzz
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Firefox_3.6.2 says 3.6.2 is scheduled to be released around march 30th, but those dates may still move
linuxR: there is a bug report, but bug reports for this kind of issue frequently contain enough information to allow someone to exploit such a vulnerability
rjohnson19
I'm sure there is one, its just security sensitive. if it weren't, anyone could figure out how to exploit the issue. So, this is a good thing.
mzz
linuxR: so those bug reports are usually kept accessible only to developers involved in fixing the issue until either the problem is made public elsewhere or a version of firefox with the fix has been in the wild for a while, whichever happens first
rjohnson19
I seem to be just echoing, I'll stop now :(
mzz
rjohnson19: nah, I think I'm actually echoing you
linuxR
lol :)
okay, as long as the report and details are released when it's fixed I'm all happy
mzz
linuxR: http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox36.html should link to bug reports after firefox 3.6.2 has been released. Those bug reports may remain closed for a while after the release though.
linuxR
alright, thanks mzz !

How do a add-on read the current site SSL certificate? is that a standard javascrit function, or a Firefox API?

How can I change the linkcolor of the links in the locationbar? I know about userChrome.css but I don't know the id or class to change it
Hydrogen
Is there anyway in firefox 3.6 to restore the 3.5 behavior when opening a new tab?
TannerF
yes
Hydrogen
(Putting it at the end of the line instead of next to the one that spawned it)

Hi, I've got a bookmarklet in use in Safari (v4 : Mac) - but when I use it in Firefox it does not excecute but instead opens a new tab with the contents of [object Object]
the bookmarklet is:
javascript:jQuery(".patrollink a").click()
Any ideas how to make it work in firefox ?
TannerF
Hydrogen: in about:config set browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent to false
Hydrogen
TannerF: thank you

got an interesting issue here, my gf's system runs Vista 64-bit and firefox worked yesterday.
She had to use system restore to make it go a little bit faster, and now firefox wont start at all
got an interesting issue here, my gf's system runs Vista 64-bit and firefox worked yesterday.

JodaX
Trek, issue ? what about reinstalling ?
Trek
JodaX, she's not wanting to do that since she doesnt want to lose bookmarks and stuff
you recommend reinstalling?
JodaX
i doubt you will anything you didn't already loose by doing the sys restore
*will loose
Trek
the system restore wasnt a reinstall, simply the revert-to-an-earlier-time
but the bookmarks and settings should still remain?
even after a reinstall?
mzz
everything interesting is in your profile
as long as you don't tell the uninstaller to wipe that you should be fine
JodaX
system rollback to make it go faster ?
that doesn't work tho
Trek
something got loaded that made it go screwy
the rollback fixed it
oh, will the addons remain installed as well after reinstall?
mzz
those are normally in your profile, so yes
Trek
alright, we'll try the reinstall now
i'll report back soon
i've got to switch OS's right now, I shall return
well, seems that the recent update was applied after the restore point was created, so as such the most recent update fixed it :P
bsmntbombdood
how can i ban firefox from ever opening a new window?
Cork[home]
tools > options > tabs > open new windows in tabs instead
bsmntbombdood
already set
firefox still opens a new window when a page "requests" it or whatever
Cork[home]
you have an example page?
bsmntbombdood
imagebam does it
Cork[home]
you have a link?
bsmntbombdood
not a sfw one
Cork[home]
well the reason i ask, is the setting is the only thing in firefox nativly, but that should catch all new windows (at least all i know of)
bsmntbombdood
Cork[home]
(Action) diggs into the source
bsmntbombdood
when you click the "enter" button that pops over
Cork[home]
hmm
bsmntbombdood
do you get the same result?
Cork[home]
bsmntbombdood: found what causes it, and its documentation
PeturI
Hi all. Is it possible to call other programs from firefox?
Cork[home]
bsmntbombdood: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction
JavaScript calls to window.open() with the "features" parameter (3rd parameter). <-- this is what causes it
i'm looking for a way around it
bsmntbombdood: ow, you want to set that pref to 0
bsmntbombdood
hrm
Cork[home]
PeturI: from a webpage or chrome?
bsmntbombdood
stop it from opening a new window, but the tab opens focused
Cork[home]
bsmntbombdood: well, thats the best if can do; what you want is block the content i guess
if==it
bsmntbombdood
firefox's search in the address bar is pretty cool

Is there a way to decrease the repaint frequency when viewing images in Firefox? For large image files, downloading with wget or the built in download manager manages to max out my 3MB/s connection, so a 5MB image gets downloaded pretty fast (<2.5s). However, when opening the image, as an image file, it is slow for me (~10-15s).
