Peng: Thanks for the info, I know where to patch my code now. Looks like another addition of IE being sloppy and letting me get away with something I shouldn't
Peng
Yeah, IE is known to be much more tolerant of strange MIME types than Firefox.
Never heard of it happening in this situation, though!
mernilio
In perspective.. how good looking are you.. i see my self as a 7:th in a 10 grade scale.. I hate to say it, but .. i girl said i looked like a young Tom Cruise.. :-P
Well not, "very good looking" just "good looking.
LiENUS
why does everyone say you cant centrally manage firefox settings in a business environment?
hell theres a way to modify the installer to fetch its settings from ldap
mernilio
LiENUS: Maybe some Microsoft excecutive.. Like Stevellmer. In an any respect, he seems retarded. He just dont care. Like Phsycos dont do. They dont care!
Sorry for the bad spelling!
I had that noting of hatcing Baö,er wotj an axe.

Peng: After patching my code to return the right MIME type, it works. So that was the issue :)
Peng
piggyg1: Glad you solved it. :)
mernilio: This channel is about Firefox. Please stay on-topic.
mernilio
Peng: no worries my friend

How do I join #chrome? It needs a password. I have a problem with both browsers but it is a little different in each. MY PROBLEM: in FF - in igoogle I do not see the "Target Ad" at all. The browser tells me _You need to have JavaScript enabled to use this page._ BUT in preferences it says Javascript is enabled. THIS IS IN OS: ubuntu 9.10 32bit.
(HEH, I should know better than to do /list)
How do I limit the /list command -- /help list doesnt work. No help available on that command.
ie to the smallest and largest.. oh beginning to remember -min 20 ---- will try it
nope, I still get the entire list

How do I install Firefox 3.6 on Ubuntu Linux 9.10?
I'm running Ubuntu Linux 9.10 and the Firefox 3.5.8 that comes with it. But I'm having some problems watching video, so I wanted to try Firefox 3.6.
Peng
You can just download it from Mozilla's website and extract it somewhere, or use one of those deb repos somewhere.
LA2
I posted my problem here, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/621279?
I got a compressed tar, and tried to run the ./firefox there. But it says I'm running 3.5.8, not 3.6
Peng
LA2: Did you already have Firefox open?
LA2
on first try, yes. On second try, no. Same result.
Peng
If Firefox is already running, it'll just open a new window.
LA2
is there some LD_LIBRARY_PATH I should set?
Peng
No.
LA2
I renamed my existing /usr/bin/firefox (to foxfire) and tried again. It shouldn't really run my old binary now. The new binary starts and then tells me I'm running 3.5.8
maybe it is 3.6 but incorrectly says 3.5.8 in the About box?
Peng
If you're explicitly running "./firefox", it doesn't matter what /usr/bin/firefox is.
LA2: ps aux | grep firefox
LA2: Is it really closed?
LA2
ah, now it works. It turned out I was still running firefox. I had closed all windows, but there was a dangling process that hadn't died.
Peng
LA2: You should update the support thread. :)
LA2
how stupid of me
yes
I'm having the same problems to watch the video at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:6hpPowerTrowel.ogv
it plays 2 or 5 seconds, and then hangs
after a while my CPU fan spins up
Peng
Sorry, I dunno about that.

LA2
we're trying to get more video on Wikipedia, but some videos make my browser hang
I'm trying to isolate and understand the problem
MTughan
I'm running on OS X 10.6.2 with both Firefox 3.6 and 3.5.7. Is it possible to make each version have its own separate profile?
LA2
MT, I have no idea about the Mac, but it appears FF 3.6 on Linux reuses everything about the existing user profile, so the answer could be "no"
MTughan
LA2: Well the question is moot anyways now, because this site supports FF 3.5 on Linux or Windows, but not Mac. Screw the Canadian government.
And I can't get 3.5.8 to work with it anyway.
LA2
I guess there might be a way to switch between two different user profiles, even if you only run FF 3.5.7
and then you could apply FF 3.6 to one of them
but I never tried anything such
FIReun
I have firefox 3.6 installed on a 64bit linux distro, it was working for awhile but now it randomly crashes not too long after loading -- is there any crash information I can look at to tell me why? (nothing in dmesg, or printed in a term when run by hand)
I imagine it was a 64 bit xserver related update that didnt update the lib32 equiv (guess) but I have no way to figure out which

In google #Chrome 's developer tools, it can display a html element's "event listeners". Is there something like this in #firebug?
dolske
hileon_: I don't think so, but that sounds like an excellent feature suggestion to make to the Firebug guys!
hileon_
thanks dolske, can you submit a feature request to firebug guys?
dolske
hileon_: I'd recommend posting to http://groups.google.com/group/firebug/ or filing a bug.

hileon_
ok, submit as bug, I can't access google group from China

hi, I'm using FF 3.6 and I saved an image as png using the gimp. However, the color in gimp (#333333) is being translated as #414141, it looks fine on Opera though
Cork
its the color profile
firefox reads and follows the color profile in the image, that gives color differences
onto
Cork, yes, that's what most resources point to but how do I change it in gimp and what do I set it to? :S
Cork
thats the problem...
the only solution i've found is running the png in a crusher that remove the profile
haven't been able to find a way to save images without profiles in gimp
onto
Cork: ran it through pngcrush too
Cork
with the remove color profile?
onto
Cork, not sure, could you paste the command? I'm new to pngcrush
Cork
pngcrush -rem gAMA -rem cHRM -rem iCCP -rem sRGB
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pngcrush
onto
Cork, Thank you, will try
Cork
sRGB and iCCP is the one causing problems most of the time
onto
Works! :)
Cork
i relly don't understand why gimp doesn't have this...
mavhc
now your image will look different on every monitor
Cork
mavhc: thats kinda the point, as ex. background colors in css doesn't follow the profile anyway
onto
hmm ... does this problem arise in photoshop?
Cork
nope
you can choose to save withut profiles and srgb
*without
onto
I'll see if I can use lprof to set a color profile that photoshop uses
Cork
uh... you get the problem if you save with photoshops color profile
the differense it that ps has an option not to save it
mavhc
yeah, that is the real problem
Cork
real problem?
broken system color profiles are the source of the problem
tamtam
yo
is there a way to import historic/pass/etc from another browser to firefox?
Cork
what browser?
tamtam
Chromium
onto
Cork, mavhc: thanks :D
Cork
tamtam: i don't think so
tamtam
okay :(
Chromium can import them from firefox
but not the inverse?
Cork
i don't even know how chrome/chromium safe its data
tamtam
okay
onto
tamtam, you could always, go to Bookmarks manager -> Export and then import it in ff
ah, nvm
I misread
tamtam
i was more talking about historics & password
s
onto
tamtam, I realized, sorry
Cork
hmm chrome saves the data as sqlite too
i guess the problems comes from firefox doesn't give a way to import history
scratch that...
tamtam
:<
Cork
if you could get chrome to export the history as an html file, you could import it in firefox
tamtam
and for the passes ?
Cork
donno about a solution for that one
firefox cryptate its passwords
heh

is there an easy way to tell firefox to just trust a list of domains even if their SSL certs are invalid (WITHOUT PROMPTING!!!) for testing purposes?
gavin
no
you can add an exception, of course, but that only works if the cert+domain pair stays consistent
kbrosnan
create a CA for your equipment, not realy trivial though
there are a couple extensions that can reduce the number of prompts to go through for approving certs
