kbrosnan: basically, for firefox there is a gray border visible at the left starting below the header image
while in the page background you can not see a huge coin because it is cut off
(also see http://ethaveon.com/ how it should look like)
that is because the gray border is a bg image of div:#main that expands just perfectly to full height
whereas the coin thing is a bg image of div:#content that doesn't care to expand at all
at least in FF/IE, although it works fine in Opera. which I don't get
kbrosnan
Yarcanox: i think https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147436 since you include a doctype
Yarcanox
but that bug is invalid
and also related to xhtml
my doctype is html strict
also, not sure whether this is my issue
as there is that height expansion hack for divs which I used which should get rid of this limitation
this just seems to be another bug that is related to background colour filling, not to a background image that expands just fine in a full height div which failed in my case because the div inside another full height just wouldn't get full height, too
kbrosnan
the bug is invalid because the reporter expected behavior that is outside the spec
Yarcanox
ok.
do I do that aswell?
do you know of that "hack" to expand a div to full browser window height? "height:auto !important; min-height:100%; height:100%" for a more or less cross-browser solution
it works just fine for a div directly inside <body>
kbrosnan
it is a css bug not an xhtml, all that matters is that by specifying a doctype the page is renderd using Firefox's standards mode
Yarcanox
now put a div inside that expanded height div

hi! I have one small question about "download time remaining" or "ETA" to download one file! Why sometimes this information not available and the progress bar is jumping left,righ,left,right... and so on? This happens sometimes in other applications but now I would like to know why?... anyone has idea? thanks
Yarcanox
and try to resize that one to the same height, too
if you managed to do that, tell me how you did it.
if you come to the conclusion that it just won't work, then my question is:
should this work?
and if yes, then just in another way or is gecko broken here?
(this works in opera btw)

Peng
morenojee: Maybe the server didn't indicate how long the file is, so Firefox does not know.
kbrosnan
it is not a bug in gecko
Yarcanox
should this work?
and if yes, using the "height:auto !important; min-height:100%; height:100%" for the inner div aswell or something else?
morenojee
Peng:~ yes your probably right... is happens only sometimes but is strange... thank you
kbrosnan
your testpage looks fine in firefox now
Yarcanox
yea, because I gave up with that approach
that is an approach that works fine in ff 3.6 but has issues in opera and webkit-based browsers
probably also in IE - do you have IE for testing?
opera/webkit have a bug(?) which aligns the background image horizontally to the browser window's width in case there is a horizontal scrollbar (i.e. the browser window width is below the minimum page width)
which makes the background image slip below the left grey content border
it works fine in ff 3.6 though (in ff 3.5 it's broken aswell I heard), don't know about IE
hm doesn't even work in 3.6 :| must have made a mistake when checking this an hour ago
kbrosnan
looks the same in ie8, chrome and firefox for me, both aligned inside the grey border
Yarcanox
if the browser window is wide
now resize it to a very small width
it won't be aligned to the borders anymore
(to see the obvious, scroll right and you'll spot the huge gap between the background image and the gray borders)

hello, firefox is refusing to open, even in safe mode -- it opens then stalls, using no cpu, no io, but not exiting either. I know a reboot will fix this, but i'd like to understand what file handle / network socket / something is being held open which breaks fx (firefox 3.6, latest stable, win xp)
nonix4
Thoughts on how to debug(/fix) the situation where firefox has the cursor alternate between pointer and hand as fast as the cpu allows?

I'm trying to develop a menu system using Firefox, and when I do HTML5 <audio> tags with Ogg/Vorbis audio, it plays fine once, but each consecutive playback it does a strange double-take where it repeats the first 1/4 second of the audio twice
any workarounds for this ?
Firefox 3.5.6 / Linux 32bit
OSS v4 if that makes any difference
I just noticed the Upgrade Firefox item is greyed out, and there's a new version. will see if the problem persists on 3.6.x
3.6.0 solved the audio issue
auscompgeek
3.6.0? I don't believe that's a valid Firefox version.

hi all
i have a problem: i installed some extensions and now i got noscript automatically unusable
with this message under it "will be uninstalled in next restart"
while it cannot be uninstalled by a userspace app, since it's system-installed
which extensions could be incompatible with noscript? i cannot find any info about it in noscript website
peaceit
anyone know why my mr tech toolbar is blank in firefox 3.6?
eporim
i solved
the problem was very simple, but subtle
they changed the name of noscript mozilla addon in the repository i use
so it got uninstalled during an update
now it's called another way, i reinstalled it and it works
(i only wonder why they did not kept it not to break existing installations, like they use to do for everything)

Froolap
It's called progress.
If they didn't break things then you wouldn't have to upgrade. If you didn't have to upgrade then they would be out of a job.

Just installed 3.6 in Vista. Gmail page doesn't have anything other than Contacts, More(not expandable), Tasks. I can't even see Inbox, Trash et.. how solve this problem?

hi there
how can i recover those bookmarkbackups files?
eporim
e_: cp <backupfile> <correct bookmark file name>
and you open firefox after that
e_
hm, okay
and can i add an old backup to my current bookmarks?
like, not replace the current ones
Peng
e_: There's an import menu in the bookmark manager.
e_
peng: it seems as if that would replace my current bookmarks too :/
Peng
I don't think so.
But don't yell at me if it does and you lose data. :D
e_
well, i can either import a json file and replace my current ones or import an html file
yeah, i just tried. it said "this will replace your current bookmarks, do you really want to do that?"
Peng
Oh.
garulf
hi...can be changed de default port (80) of firefox?
Cork
default port 80?
what are you trying to do?
garulf
cork, i've to debug a program
cork, i've to redirect all firefox connection (but only firefox) to another port
cork, so if i change default port i can easily setup a iptables rule to do that
Cork
garulf: your doing a proxy or someting?
garulf
Cork, something...i can't use the proxy option because need that firefox acts like with no proxy
Cork, like as* no proxy
Cork
garulf: the only thing you can do then is add the :<port> at the url
garulf
Cork, yes..the problem is that need even the link in te page use that port :(
Cork, links*
Cork
garulf: so create a simple jetpack or greasmonkey script that change the url
garulf
Cork, yes..good idea. Now i'm tring with an experimental rule of iptable, but if fails i will try a script

Hi, can I run two instances of firefox ( ubuntu ) simultaneously ( each using different profile ) ?
Peng
mbn_18: Yes. You have to pass -no-remote and -ProfileManager or '-P someprofile'.
mbn_18
Peng, Thanks, checking
It worked. Is it possible to append a string to the title ( So I will be able to make a diffrent between instances ) ? I am using Ubuntu
otswim
hi, how to remove the google search bar from firefox?
m1chele
do you mean "remove the bar" or remove "google search engine"?
otswim
m1chele: i mean the space where you search for google; i'm not using it since you can already search from the address bar
m1chele
view > toolbar > customize
and drag out the bar
otswim
m1chele: i don't see it there, maybe we're not talking about the same thing: i don't have the full google bar, just some space to type my search
m1chele: oh sorry it's ok actually
thanks
m1chele
ok

ok, - just got (yet another) windows update - this time tho, I believe it is cause of this: http://www.opera.com/press/releases/2009/12/16/
and the update say "Install this update to access a Choice Screen which lets you select whether and which Web browser(s) to install in addition to Internet Explorer. After you have installed this software update it cannot be removed."

Hi
spersaud
I dont know if this is a bug but if you have multiple tabs open and close them, when you hit ctrl+t to open new tabs it opens back up the ones you just closed, how do I report this ?
am using iceweasel with debian
kbrosnan
spersaud: verify that it is not extension or profile related, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+troubleshooting
i've not heard of people seeing that
Nickwiz
spersaud: version? tested on FF 3.6 on both nix and windox - no regeneration here at least... (multiple/single windows - multiple/single tabs - multiple/single sessions - fresh/"old" sessions)
spersaud
Nickwiz: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.18) Gecko/2010021720 Iceweasel/3.0.6 (Debian-3.0.6-3)
I think I was pressing ctrl+shift+t ..
sorry
kbrosnan
well then that is expected
