Can I have a profile manager to switch my add-ons? For example, when I working in my jobs, I want to use only my developer extensions. In other cases I want to use another set of extensions. It's possible?
rjohnson19
dfleury: someone made an enhancement request for that, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=546018. Don
Don't know if extensions can even modify the add-on manager..
Yeah, they can. But I don't know of any that do.
dfleury
thank you =]
I'll try for myself
I will try to use Python scripts to manage them. It is rustic, but I think it can work

what's the latest firefox edition/update available as a package for unbuntu?
qwer
hey guys, what is with this new popup "all downloads have finished" and under that "activate" - it covers stuff I'm doing in FF and I don't like popups
rjohnson19
qwer: this one: http://ilias.ca/blog/2005/11/turn-off-the-downloads-complete-alert-in-firefox/ ? I don't think thats very new though.
qwer
no i used to get that one rjohnson19, but now I get one near the top right hand corner of FF - it has an "activate" button on it that brings up the DLs window (I'm in linux btw)
rjohnson19
Oh. I don't know then, sorry.
qwer
turning that off fixed it though
must be something different attached to the same pref, rjohnson19

rjohnson19
Ah. Its just different notiification methods on different platforms.

i have a problem in icecat, where the "always open new windows in a new tab instead" option ... doesn't work, and they open in new windows anyway
is there a way around this
Cann0n
hey, i forgot who helped me the other day... but squid is the worst way to get cache assisted browsing... there are plugins that do a much better job with 99.999999% less hassle than setting up a transparent proxy
TannerF
not nice
oh
that said forgot
not what i thought it did
gee, i think i'm dyslexic...
ShadowTale
anyone know where firefox stores it's cookies?
specifically if you know. where the website kongregate stores they're cookies for firefox users.
TannerF

ShadowTale
k. any idea if there is an editor that'll let me read it?
TannerF

ShadowTale

TannerF
Hm...
ShadowTale

TannerF
I don't really know the interworkings of the sqlite files...
ShadowTale

Sourpuss addresses the class in the teachings of Condoleeza Rice while his eyes are torn out by ravens, or to conceive of a solution to the unsolvable or maybe solvable problem, that which is greed and/or also generosity. In chrome and firefox on every SSL/HTTPS site I go to I always get an untrusted connection warning and I need to manually add the certificate. Does anyone have info about this?

even if you go to ex. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ ?

hi guys
I need some help
I did a clean install of my windows. So it made a folder Windows.old with all my previous settings.
Now I install firefox 3.6. I want to import all data i had in the previous installation, not only bookmarks but everything including the history which showed up in the address bar
is it possible?
mzz
bah, too slow.

hi all
in my firefox suddenly all the content under Preferences-->Applications is missing..

where it all went..?did I delete any important file!!?
AndyGraybeal
is there anyway to share a profile simultaneuously? i'm in ubuntu 8.10 terminal server (ltsp) and i would like my users to share a firefox profile (Atleast share bookmarks and bookmarks toolbar) is this possible?
xbskid
AndyGraybeal: Share as in start with the same default profile? Or share as in "If one user updates the bookmarks, apply all changes to everyone's"?
mzz
AndyGraybeal: can't share the actual profile, no.
AndyGraybeal
xbskid, mzz thank you guys for your responses.
do you guys think that firefox will ever put all the settings into postgresql (or something) and then multiple people could share a profile?
i'm sure someone has already thought of this!
mzz
I seriously doubt it as far as using postgresql goes
AndyGraybeal
k
i just meant db
i see all the sqlite stuff.. but they are still files that can't be shared
mzz
remember that history and bookmarks are largely unified
accessing that same db from multiple browsers doesn't really work
AndyGraybeal
okay
mzz
I wonder if weave will be extended to cover sharing bookmarks anytime soon
AndyGraybeal
(Action) looks up weave
mzz
doesn't currently do what you want
AndyGraybeal
k
mzz
well, I don't think it'd be practical at least
although I guess you could have all those browsers share a weave account

I want to write a plugin that recognizes every opening of a pdf-file. I do not want to connect the mime type with my plugin, since it shall be opened by acrobat or similar. I just want to recognize it, when the user opens a pdf. I did this by adding an eventlistener to every pdf-link on the page, but I also want to track pdfs which are not connected with a .pdf file. There are also scripts delivering it. Is it possible to write a plugin that checks the mime type,
and triggers actions when pdf is matched?
jacekowski
http://niebezpiecznik.pl/PoC/Firefox_3.6/poc.html
mzz
don't click that link
jacekowski: that claims to be a DoS. Why are you linking to it with no warning?
jacekowski
click it
i don't have firefox
mzz
that link will try to crash your browser. Don't follow the link.
jacekowski
so i had to try it out on somebody else
mzz
jacekowski: what are you trying to accomplish? Spreading links to exploits with no warning like this is frowned upon on freenode
cire
okay, I now did it with content.document.documentType==application/pdf. The weird thing is, that my event "load" gets triggered multiple times when loading a page. Why is this?
Also clicking the "back" button gets the page loaded again...
or better, the load-event triggered again
for the page I leave

hi guys, i i have a macbook pro and i would like to use the "f12" key to open firebug
but on mac f12 is the widet viewer by default
how do you manage that ?
i dropped out, did someone anwser?
mzz
no (and I don't have a mac so I can't answer that one either)
Twyll
Hi, need help
Firefox has gone rogue, decided flash player 10 isnt worthy and will only play flash player 8
mzz
Twyll: on which os, and can you pastebin about:plugins
Twyll
Vista
http://pastebin.com/evbLptzt
I have both installed but firefox will only use 8
Opera and IE both use 10
cire
when triggering gBrowser Load-Events, I get multiple ones (3) for every page which is loaded. Where does this come from?
katesmith
lots of people are in here
but there is no one around to help with firefox
Baughn
Firefox has started clicking at me. Make it stop? Please?
mzz
Twyll: my bad, lost track of this channel. Looking now.
Twyll: I'd find and remove the old npswf32.dll. Turning on plugin.expose_full_path in about:config and then revisiting about:plugins can help you locate it.
Twyll
Ok cheers
mzz
cire: I'm assuming they're from iframes or other content that's inside the main page. Might want to dump the event.target of those events (and ignore the ones where event.target is not event.currentTarget)
katesmith: sometimes there are people here who can help, but especially for basic user support irc.mozilla.org's #firefox is more populated (most mozilla irc traffic is there, not on freenode)
Baughn: in response to what, and on what os?
Baughn
mzz: In response to clicking something on the right-click popup menu, mostly; back, for example. Oddly enough, the back button on the address bar doesn't do it.
And Arch64
mzz
Baughn: firefox 3.6?
Baughn
Yes
mzz
Baughn: can't say I've noticed it producing sounds for that particular action, but I think that version started using libcanberra's standard sound effect themes
Baughn: got gnome?
Baughn
I'm not sure
I'm /running/ xmonad
..yes, I've got a bunch of gnome stuff pulled in by FF
mzz
hmm.
Baughn: I don't know how to sanely edit or disable libcanberra's sound effects, which I'm assuming is what you're hearing.
Baughn
mzz: Well, deleting the sound files will probably do it.
Thanks
mzz: Oh, "sanely"? Sorry, I've been driven insane by this clicking noise. :P
mzz
Baughn: pretty sure it's possible, but I'm already doing two other things, so sorry
Baughn
Nah, just knowing where to look is enough.
mzz: gnome-control center, just turned off the sound theme.. ah well.
mzz
that sounds about right, yeah

how to change firefox window with kb
alt+tab goes next tab
but how can i go to next window?
Paul_UK
hey has anyone found firefox 3.6 to be a memory resource hog and frequently run the cpu to 100% ? currently, i have 1 tab and its at 555,576K !! 3.5 was much better.
Kivi
nope i have not
mconnor
Paul_UK: what's the one tab, what OS are you on, and what add-ons do you have installed?
Paul_UK
mconnor: its more like memory leaks, i run max 4 tabs and memory steadily grows to 500K. operating system windows xp sp 3. latest 3.5 ran perfectly.
oh and addons only firebug
mconnor
hmm, about:memory should tell you more, but I don't remember if it made 3.6
Paul_UK
mconnor: ah no worries, im sure they'll resolve it. 3.5 used to be an issue as well and they sorted that
mconnor
Paul_UK: keep in mind that allocated vs. in use is not well-reported by task manager, fwiw, but if you actually have half a gig in use... not great.
about:memory will tell you both numbers
IsmAvatar
hi folks, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 with Firefox 3.5.8 and Drag and Drop doesn't work for my bookmarks
fedora_newb
why doesn content look different on linux and windows ver of firefox?
does*
Fazer2
hey, is there no way to play h.264 videos with HTML5?
mzz
fedora_newb: usually because of fonts differences
Fazer2: no supported way, and I doubt one will appear soon either
Fazer2: assuming you meant "in firefox" of course :)
fedora_newb
mzz, i was looking at a friends design, and it was totally out of style, like div positions on firefox on fedora but appeared right on windows firefox
mzz
fedora_newb: still, that's frequently because of font differences. Like some text taking up slightly more space, pushing other content that's supposed to be side-by-side below it instead.
I don't have any actual examples around, but try messing with font settings. Or link to the site so we can (hopefully) see what's up with it
fedora_newb
mzz, don't have the link off the top of my head, but was curious on the problem, but will mention the font thing
mzz, thanks for a response

how to change firefox window using keyboard?
sixofour
is there any way to make firefox "forget" the last "save x as" folder you used every time you restart firefox?
like if i saved an image, and ir browse to a folder and save it, when i close firefox, and then open it, and save an image, its back to the default folder, and not the one i browsed to
dolske
hmm
sixofour: browser.download.folderList I think
sixofour
what do i do with that variable?
dolske
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Download_Manager_preferences
not sure if that still becomes sticky or not if you select another locations.
There might be an addon, dunno
