vmware will need to update their plugin if they care about .36+
3.5+
sigh 3.6+
abrotman
i understood :)
and you meant the former ?
kbrosnan
yeah hence the er
abrotman
(Action) puts kbrosnan in a blender
kbrosnan
and the ssl change is something that a user can tweak if needed
abrotman
yeah, but that only gets me to the console, not to the actual VMware interface
kbrosnan
ah, never used the vmware web interface.
abrotman
didn't they kill the other client ?
kbrosnan
not sure, this was about 2 years ago. installed their free workstation client on an extra linux box i had
harth: get on the good moz wireless

abrotman
oh, this is vmware server
doctorfrog
does anyone know of a firefox addon that can turn all text to black on white in one click?
kbrosnan
sounds like something a bookmarklet could do
like http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/
doctorfrog
interesting. thanks
nice. i can assign a keyword to it, type in the url field of a page, and it suddenly isn't gray text on an off-white background. not perfect, but it'll do for now
phretor
hi, I am logging every NSPR function: they are a lot. I would like to "enclose" all the log messages between two "begin loading page" and "page loaded" messages. Which functions are indicative of those events?
harth
doctorfrog: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5758 as well
doctorfrog
thanks harth
harth, that's exactly what i needed. perfect.

hi everyone, does anyone have issues with firefox connectivity once the network is changed?
jrib
Hi how can I disable password masking?
kbrosnan
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/462
toogreen
hi there, any1 familiar with how to develop extensions?
Peng
toogreen: Try irc.mozilla.org #extdev
toogreen
Peng, thanks a lot! Just what i was looking for :-)
alesan
hi I would like to do the taxes with turbotax online but it seems they do not like my browser
I was wondering if I can put a user-agent on my linux firefox so it looks like a windows firefox
Peng
alesan: User Agent Switcher extension
alesan: Whether that will be enough for that website...
alesan
Peng, are you saying that the linux version of firefox may have less "compatibility" or "features" compared to the windows one?
Peng
alesan: I am not saying that. I am saying that some websites actually _are_ broken, and not just doing user-agent sniffing for kicks.
alesan
well but firefox 3.x for windows is officially supported by this site
it should not make any difference if I use firefox 3.x for linux
in fact, I used my wife's Mac with firefox on it

anybody familiar with ff2 hacks?

MJBrune
hello, in thunderbird it keepts requesting that I accept an ssl security cert every time to try to download mail, is there anyway to perminatly accept it?
It keeps saying 'domain name mismatch' please accept
w3rd_
is gecko layout engine used with ff3 and ff2?
ss
Yes
w3rd_
ss: i have a site that im working on, the menu propagates fine in safari, ie7/8, opera, ff3 but in flock / ff2 it shifts ?? would there be any particular reason this happens? eg prolly an error in my code?
ss
Older versions of Firefox don't support the same features as newer versions.
w3rd_
how do i make the site capable to handle old features... is there something specific that i can do?
btw is flock using the old features, i guess they are only at 2.1... i dont even know if they are out of beta?
ss
developer.mozilla.org has more information.
w3rd_
what would i be looking for specifically? any thoughts?
ss
Changes in JS if you're using JS.
Cork
w3rd_: when they went from ff2 to ff3 they did a major version change (1.8 to 1.9) in gecko
ss
Changes in CSS if you're using CSS.
Cork
w3rd_: alot of rendering errors was fixed then
w3rd_
Cork: well.. in this case i would have to say obviously.. just pertaining to my issue...
but i have to basically reconfigure to the older standard..
Cork
w3rd_: most of there can be fixed with simple css
w3rd_
is there a way to use logic to define browser type when a user surfs your pages?
Cork
no
eather server side sniffing, or javascript, nether is a nice solution
w3rd_: but do you have a link for your problem?
w3rd_
well.. i have a link...
but unless you are using ff2 or flock...
you wont see it
do you have either avail?
Cork
sure
w3rd_
kk
http://shop.tek-op.com/collections
kinda hoaky but it does the trick
do you see what im talking about with the menu system..
Cork
w3rd_: one sec, i need to boot the vm
w3rd_
oh. heh
nps
i take it that is u?
Cork
w3rd_: no, i don't have all browsers installed in the primary os :)
ok, up an running
w3rd_
heh
Cork
you mean the tabs?
w3rd_
yah
do you see it on your side?
shiz just drops like half the page..
had to do some weird stuff with this menu system..
Cork
w3rd_: that shouldn't be to hard to fix
w3rd_
i know..
im just interested as to what causes this?
Cork
w3rd_: padding or margin, i've fixed similar problems
it was a while back though :)
w3rd_
and how do i fix it... and keep it appearing the way it does in the browsers that are viewing correctly, eg ie 7/8 ff3, opeara, safari, etc.
Cork
need to fetch a firebug that works in 2.0...
w3rd_
hmm.. what is firebug?
Cork
its a page debug extension
w3rd_
wowo, that is pretty koo..
Cork
its the best friend you can have when you develop webpages
w3rd_
ill say.
Cork
https://addons.mozilla.org/sv-SE/firefox/addon/1843
w3rd_
just added it..
nice
some say i should just forget about making the mod, and it your not using a current browser to say forget it..
but i feel kinda lame leaving something major like that hanging about..
Cork
w3rd_: 2.0 is really old
w3rd_
well.. wats the deal with flock?
its doing the same thing?
Cork
i don't fight to make pages compatible with it anymore
w3rd_
oh really
Cork
flock i donno much about
w3rd_
you just say screw it, if it works in 3 then forget it?
or should i say a modern browser
rather than just 3 explicitly
Cork
hmm, interesting
w3rd_
??????
Cork
the #nav* becomes really high
w3rd_
on?
Cork
thats whats breakes the content
w3rd_
oh you are getting broken content as well?A
Cork
sure
w3rd_
oh great!
Cork
that wasn't ever the argument
w3rd_
no..
just issues with the nav on my side.
hmm...
Cork
w3rd_: why do you split the menus in separat divs?
w3rd_
does it come out ok in a modern browser?
well..
Cork
why not have them all in one?
w3rd_
i wanted to..
Cork
should prob fix your problem
w3rd_
there is a little issue with that.
do you see the hover effect when you run your mouse over one of the tabs?
Cork
ya
w3rd_
if you look at my primary site, when you click on a link and its active... it has the same display as the shop tab
but im hosting this on a server that doesnt let me do the same logic between my primary tabs and subnav
they are directly related on my primary site..
but this company shopify doesnt have the same type of way to perform such logic, eg ssi
Cork
so its a limitation in the framework your using?
w3rd_
so i cant get the shop tab to remain highlighted with my sub menu
yes that is alot simpler way to put it
Cork
well you could set a class in the menu, would be nicer
w3rd_
so... to keep the asthetics you see what you see..
Cork
w3rd_: do you have any submenu dropdowns related to these tabs?
w3rd_
no
everything is related to the subnav
Cork
ok, then i would go with absolute positioning them instead of relative
w3rd_
am i using relative?
Cork
then attach them to the bottom of top with bottom: 0px
ya
uh, bottom of #top with
w3rd_
right
Cork
hmm, where do the shop tab comes from?
w3rd_
thats a background image
i couldnt find a way to make it remain active and change the background image in relationship to changes made in the subnav
take a look at ...
http://freedom-o-speech.com
you will see what im saying
the menu options for about / services are both directly linked to the subnav via php ||
Cork
RIGHT!
now i remember
w3rd_
i could have used switch case
but ...
|| is easier
Cork
w3rd_: the fix is simple
w3rd_
mmm..k
Cork
move the image on the left side, to after the menu
(in the code)
that should be all you need
w3rd_
oh.. you mean the shop tab background image?
what image on the left are your referring, the logo?
Cork
no the http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0042/2952/assets/web_c300.png?1265091833
w3rd_
ahh...
let me see what happens when i do that..
just a moment.
Cork
if i remve it the menu becomes correct
w3rd_
how are you able to modify? with firebug?
Cork
thats the exact same problem i've had moads of times in ff2
w3rd_: correct
w3rd_
damn
firebug is tight
Cork
you can modify the css and html in it
w3rd_
that is so freakin koo
Cork
break point javascript
w3rd_
i have got to use that like all the time from now on and forever!
Cork
ya, web development without it is... >_<
no way :D
w3rd_
hahah
awesome!
Cork
its a float bug in ff2
w3rd_
yah.. i was reading about that...
Cork
it will not float above static content
so just moving the logo below will fix it
w3rd_
currently reloading the page.. i downloaded flock 2.1 beta... and the d3rn thing is so slow
well looks like you are right on my friend
i was able to remove the logo and it the menu is back in good shape..
lemmie just add it after the menu..
just a moment..
Cork
i had to dig in my memory bank to remember the bugs, haven't been working with 2.0 for quite a while :D
w3rd_
im glad you still had it somewhere in the archives
yippee!!!!
oh hey !!!
what do you know!!! it worked!
awesome
Cork
:)
