steffan
Hi does someone have a URL that I can wget the latest copy of Firefox for Mac OSX Leopard?
cbreak
http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-3.5.6&os=osx&lang=en-US
but can't you use safari for that?
steffan
cbreak: That link downloads an .exe
cbreak
no
it downloads a dmg
I tried it :)
(that's why there's os=osx in the url)
steffan
cbreak: Saving to: `Firefox Setup 3.5.6.exe'
cbreak
you're doing it wrong
steffan
Hm?
cbreak
it's the copy-pasted link from the mozilla homepage to the US-English version of Firefox 3.5.6 for Mac OS X
steffan
'wget http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-3.5.6&os=osx&lang=en-US' 'Saving to: `Firefox Setup 3.5.6.exe'

cbreak
you're definitely doing something wrong
LightKnight
I'm trying to download that, it saves in a .dmg
(and I'm on Linux, hehe :-P)
steffan
LightKnight: Via wget?
LightKnight
steffan: yes
Salvataggio in: "Firefox 3.5.6.dmg"
(sorry for the Italian)
cbreak
maybe mozilla does something dumb
steffan
Even the download location is an .exe
Location: http://kyoto-mz-dl.sinet.ad.jp/pub/mozilla.org//firefox/releases/3.5.6/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%203.5.6.exe
cbreak
The resolved link I get is http://ftp.df.lth.se/mozilla/firefox/releases/3.5.6/mac/en-US/Firefox%203.5.6.dmg
steffan
Saving to: `Firefox 3.5.6.dmg'
LightKnight
steffan: are you escaping the "&"s and whatnot?
steffan
That link works cbreak, it was sending me to a .exe mirror
Downloading now
cbreak
it would be easier if you used safari :)
It works excellently for downloading firefox
LightKnight
steffan: I tried without escaping and it downloaded me an exe, so the problem likely was that you weren't downloading from the desired URL, but breaking at the first "&" :)
steffan
Thank you

Anybody know why they started forcing the "open file" dialog window to appear when you click on a text field to upload a file instead of the browse button? They did this a long time ago
I think in 2.5
Ok, anybody know how to DISABLE it?
Wow, anybody even alive here?
Accesshater
my head is dead
fedorauser162
anyone know how i can import my passwords that are saved in galeon into firefox?
Cyber_Akuma
So I am guessing either nobody knows about or cares about this issue :(
Its seriously driving me ballistic
Peng
I wonder if it's some sort of security measure?
So a site can't trick you into pasting something sensitive into it or something.
Cyber_Akuma
It is, but the problem is
It s avery very small one, and one that would only effect a total newbie and even they it woudl require effort on their part IIRC.
However
Other far mroe security features can be disabled.... yet this one cannot, and this security measure BREAKS other useful feaetures of the text entry field
I have an old pentium 3 system, the file open dialog takes about 20 seconds to open, real fun when you want to upload say, 20 files one by one.... and it evne locks up at 100% cpu usage now if I try to arrange by date, size, etc!
It used to take several seconds to upload a dozen or so files because I would just copy-paste the path..... now it takes everal MINUTEs.... if FF dosen't crash
This security feature even makes it impossible to CLEAR a file entry text field if you decide to change your mind.... and due to FF remembering what you entered in text entry fields, refreshing dosen't remove it either
Isnt that also a security risk?

hello

Cyber_Akuma
hi
fedorauser162
anyone know how i can import my passwords that are saved in galeon into firefox?
Accesshater
there is an fedorauser162 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848 ?
but i dont really know what galeon is
:x
fedorauser162
where does epiphany keeps its data files?
Frogbarf
How do i change the colors to text field elements in webpages? I have a dark desktop theme which causes all text input fields on webpages to be be dark, often with black text. I played around with userChrome.css but that doesn't seem to affect webpage elements
cbreak
tried CSS?
Frogbarf
modifying userChrome.css doesn't change the color of fonts in textfields
cbreak
text input fields can be colored with it
Frogbarf
Either that or it's being ignored
cbreak
modifying the CSS from the website will
Frogbarf
what do you mean?
I can't make changes to websites that I don't own
Accesshater
you can with stylish but that isnt really a solution
cbreak
safari can use custom css files that get applied to all pages
Accesshater
i think that you have to make some changes in the system gtk theme
cbreak
I am sure Firefox has an extension that does the same
Accesshater
aah k
cbreak
(Because firefox has an extension for anything)
centinul
I'm having a weird Firefox issue that has me concerned
I'm currently running 3.5.6 on Vista x64
When I go to: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=986066&tstart=0, I get a white page that says "SITE HAS MOVED. CLICK HERE!" which links to: http://buypills.telehost.biz/ Instead of the real page, It displays fine in IE8
Frogbarf
Here is an example screenshot of my problem: http://www.mullensystems.com/~john/fontproblem.jpg
Most pages the font woud be orange on dark blue, but some pages insist on using a black font. I typed "horses" in the screenshot
I want to force to text field to be something other than dark blue
cbreak
centinul: funny.
I see the same on OS X with the same version of FF
centinul
cbreak: Not really..... Is it a Firefox issue, or not?
cbreak
I would blame oracle
it's their page
centinul
I think someone is spamming their forums
Funny that IE duoesn't have the same behavior though
cbreak
IE probably has three or four behaviours
depending on which version you use, and if it's full moon or not
Accesshater
centinul i think that ie doesnt understand the css that is used in the code :p
Frogbarf
what seems to be happening is firefox is pulling my desktop theme and many pages don't seem to play nice with dark themes.
cbreak
centinul: it looks like drug spam in safari as well
centinul
cbreak: Good I'm not losing it
Thanks all for the help
Frogbarf
that stylish plugin doesn't change the color of tex input fields.
or buttons
it seems like it should be a really simple thing to fix.
Accesshater
Frogbarf have you tried to install a firefox theme
Frogbarf
The fire theme does not change the color of buttons, text fields in webpages
It's pulling my kde colors for that
cbreak
how did you try to change the color?
Frogbarf
i tried modifying userchrom.css
but that seems to only affect the interface and not the "button" and text field colors
webpage widgits
they seem to be coming from kde regardless of the firefox theme. I want to be able to overide that
cbreak
Have you tried the Stylish addon?
Frogbarf
I like my kde theme, but some pages use a dark font in text imput theme
cbreak
it can override web page css
Frogbarf
yes,
cbreak
well, then it's solved :)
Frogbarf
no it's not
cbreak
why not?
Frogbarf
Becasue the widgit colors don't change
cbreak
what did you do?
Frogbarf
did you see my screenshot?
cbreak
I mean
what did you do?
Frogbarf
http://www.mullensystems.com/~john/fontproblem.jpg
cbreak
of course, just installing Stylish and hoping the magical fairy will fix it won't work
you surely have tried a css
Frogbarf
i tried a few differnt styles for that page, but it didn't change the part that I need changing.
cbreak
something like
Frogbarf
yes, but it seems to be ignored
cbreak
input, textarea { background: #ffffff;}
Frogbarf
If it is possilbe to fix *that* with a css change, how do I do tit?
cbreak
or what did you try?
Frogbarf
userChrome.css rigth?
cbreak
no
Stylish
what the hell is userChrome.css?
Accesshater
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/14698 something like this Frogbarf?
cbreak
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108 I'd think
Accesshater
hmm not really :/
Frogbarf
userChrome.css if the file that contains all the css info, from what I understand
cbreak
Frogbarf: have you tried an addon like Stylish?
Frogbarf
yes, i tried a few minutes ago, but it changed everything and only made things worse. I only want for text input fields to be a differnet color other than dark blue.
cbreak
so, why didn't you only change that?
you can chose the css
Frogbarf
ok, how?
cbreak
just chose one that doesn't change anything else
... by editing the css maybe?
Frogbarf
what should I enter?
cbreak
tell it to make the background white...
how should I know what you want?
sometimes I really feel ignored
Frogbarf
I want the background to be white, but changes to the fille userChrome.css are ignored.
cbreak
...
I feel ignored even more
try that damn addon
Stylish
got it?
I even pasted you a link for it
Frogbarf
i have stylish installed
cbreak
so, configure it to change the css so that the background is white
for those pages you want it to be changed
Frogbarf
how do I configure it?
cbreak
read the readme file?
Frogbarf
there was none
cbreak
then try configuring it like any other firefox addon
Frogbarf
ok, i added input, textarea { background: #ffffff;} to style I named "White text area"
but google search bar is still blue
cbreak
have you applied that style to google?
Frogbarf
do I have to do it for every site?
cbreak
how should I know
probably only to those who have text areas
or input boxes
Frogbarf
I want for all text input fields, radio buttons etc to not be blue
It's a system default
cbreak
system default is dark blue I thought
Frogbarf
yes it is, but I don't want firefox to be white for all form wigits
sorry, I don't want firefox to be blue for those
I think it has to do with gtk
cbreak
weird that it doesn't work for you
I've applied a few themes for google
and they were able to change everything
treesapsatchel
what possible reasons might there be for firefox running slowly all of a sudden? no new plugins
should i reinstall?
cbreak
what do you expect a reinstall to change?
Frogbarf: had to do this:
textarea, input {-moz-appearance: none !important; background: #000000 !important; color: #ffffff !important; }
don't ask me how that works
but it seems to
Frogbarf
hmm
cool!
I had to modify usercontent.css
m1k3
What is the default font size and how is it determined?
Frogbarf
userChome.css didn't do it.
where did you find that cbreak?
cbreak
find what?
I wrote it
stitched together from a google style in Stylish
Frogbarf
It's exactly what I need
Accesshater
grats Frogbarf :)
Frogbarf
it's not overriding the black font which is perfect
i mean, "now" overriding
many sites don't play nice with dark desktop themes it seems
cbreak
I think it's more the problem of your OS
Frogbarf
probably, it's suse
What's good about your solution is that is leads to consistancy
fedorauser162
wtf why is "ls -alrt" hanging?
gavin
need a new hard drive
fedorauser162
gavin, i just got it in the mail!
