indietrash
antlong: is that a feature or an addon?
antlong
addon
indietrash
antlong: that looks fairly obnoxious
antlong
some people never make it off the playground i guess
indietrash
it will also use up width, which I'm not too keen on. especially since I have the desktop pager on the side.
ph0bet0r
hi, recource problem creating /tmp/orbit-$user, any suggestions? (i have write permissions there)
ezrafree
hello
has anyone ever heard of firefox closing every time you type in the google search bar at the top?
auscompgeek
crash?
ezrafree
it only happens with certain keys it seems: d, j, and some others
not sure if it's a crash, it just closes... well probably a crash cause when it starts back up the session doesn't restore
it instead asks which windows i want to reload
which tabs i mean, sorry

auscompgeek
Does the crash reporter appear?
ezrafree
nope
sobczyk
anyone had the xml parsing error when trying to enter "tree style tab" addon preferences?
auscompgeek
sobczyk, bug the addon developer to fix it.
dibs
Hola! My ff3.6 ubuntu karmic 64bit has just started crashing heaps. Any tips on what might remedy this??
harth
ezrafree: you have yslow by any chance?
dibs
does yslow crash ff?
Gh3rssp
yes
ezrafree
yes i have yslow
harth
yslow 2.0.5 does, yeah
ezrafree
let me try disabling it
ahh i have 2.0.5, too
ahh thank you harth!!
that was it hah, it was disabled already but once i clicked uninstall it doesn't happen anymore
i copied over my old profile of firefox from slackware when i switched to ubuntu
harth
np, there should be an update of yslow out
they fixed the problem, I think
ezrafree
so i probably just need to install yslow from ubuntu's package manager or whatever
harth
hm, I would just get the new one here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5369
can you get addons from the package manager?
ezrafree
some of them
like i have "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications", it's an addon that i can't uninstall from within firefox
i'd have to uninstall it from within the "Software Center"
auscompgeek
because it's a global add-on.
harth
oh wow, I never noticed that, I do see Firebug
ezrafree
yes that's it, a global addon, thanks auscompgeek
auscompgeek
np :)
ezrafree
when i look at my ssl certificate, it says "Owner: This website does not supply identity information."
and yet, my ssl certificate is valid
does firefox say this whenever a certificate is not an EV cert?

jaggz
I'm trying to get someone on the mac (osx) to be able to ftp a file to me. She installed FireFTP but the addon has an exclamation mark and says "requires an additional item"
auscompgeek
Why not just use a dedicated FTP program such as FileZilla?
ezrafree
yes for me filezilla has always been the best and most stable way to ftp
jaggz
was easier I thought :(
ezrafree
no matter the OS
fireftp is a "cute" idea, but not all that stable really
kind of a novelty item, really
to be like "wow look at that i can ftp from a firefox addon"
filezilla install on mac a mac is quite easy though
just download it and install, very straight forward
jaggz
ok.. she's getting filezilla.. says she used to use it
Nuboaway
(Action) is away: Im gone
Fuck that message µ_µ
auscompgeek
Nuboaway, turn it off.
Nuboaway
auscompgeek, I'll do. But I cant do nothing now, since Im already gone
jaggz
personally I think a browser shoulod handle ftp both ways fine :)
auscompgeek
jaggz, true.
FireFTP worked for me on Windows, but I never really used it&
jaggz
just have a little area up there for sending files (when you drag/drop) instead of opening them in the browser window
yeah.. then again, fireftp is here and works..
except on osx for some reason
on this girl's system...
ezrafree
fireftp "works" but if you're going to be downloading/uploading over ftp a lot, its much better to get filezilla
its all a matter of how often u use it really
bsmntbombdood
i upgraded firefox and now the middle-click behavior has changee
it used to load that url that was in the clipboard, now it does some kind of scrolly thing
how do i fix this?
antlong
options
bsmntbombdood
and
auscompgeek
You're on Linux?
rjohnson19
To stop tabs opening relative to the current tab, change the about:config value of browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent to false, or install this extension: http://bit.ly/74uDnH
auscompgeek
Wrong one.
rjohnson19
Oh, thats not it :(
auscompgeek
This is middle mouse paste
bsmntbombdood
middlemouse.contentLoadURL is set to true
ah, looks like an extension was bogarting the autoscrolling
Peng
Just curious, which one?
bsmntbombdood
mouse gestures
Peng
Ah.
Did you just install it or reconfigure it, or did it used to work?
auscompgeek
oh.
bsmntbombdood
just updated firefox, the old gesture extension didn't work
johntramp
hi. I am wanting to call firefox from the linux commandline and have it only open the url if it is not already open in another tab, otherwise open that tab. is this possible?
Liquid_Fire_
hi, is there a way to temporarily disable the cross-domain XHR check?
maybe with an about:config setting or something?
antlong
!g
ezrafree
and yet, my ssl certificate is valid
oops
when i look at my ssl certificate, it says "Owner: This website does not supply identity information."
any ideas where i can learn more about this message?
rjohnson19
I think that just means its not EV. Still perfectly valid.
ezrafree
ok, thanks rjohnson19
desynch
hi can anyone help me why i am getting this error to my mozilla -> failure in chrome registration could not install this item
what that means?
rjohnson19
desynch: Give this a try: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Chrome+registration+failed
Gh3rssp
rjohnson19: you wouldn't believe how many people come to sumo thinking that Chrome Registration failed means that they have google chrome and you need to pay for it
zetheroo
is there an IRC for songbird?
rjohnson19
lol
Gh3rssp
zetheroo: irc://irc.mozilla.org/#songbird
zetheroo
ok thanks
xangua
:=
:O *
Gh3rssp
np
zetheroo
do you have any experience with SB?
Gh3rssp
nope
zetheroo
no worries
Gh3rssp
heh
i dont really listen to music...
zetheroo
yeah? .. hmm ... neither do I actually ... this is for a client ...
Gh3rssp
I cant figure out what kind i like, so i don't spend my money on it
ah
jruderman: o.O no one told me there was a mozilla cloak! I just got this firefox one :(
jruderman
eh? i see a firefox cloak when i whois myself
Gh3rssp
Really?
jruderman (n=jruderma@nat/mozilla/x-blyxwcwankiqrbgr) has joined
Oh
i see that too...
jruderman
that's not a user cloak, that's an IP cloak ("nat")
Gh3rssp
oh
jruderman
meaning i'm connecting from the mozilla office
Gh3rssp
heh, remember that one day i started that whole firefox cloak thing on moznet?
jruderman
once i identify to nickserv it changes to firefox/security/jruderman
Gh3rssp
ah
jruderman
no
Gh3rssp
(Action) is Tanner on moznet
jruderman
ok
there will probably be a mozilla/ cloak eventually, and then all the firefox/ cloaks will be turned into mozilla/ cloaks
Gh3rssp
oh
I wanted a mozilla/community cloak
racar
so anyway have a idea about the release order ?
jruderman
racar: what's the question? i missed it
Gh3rssp
racar: 3.6->3.6.1->3.6.2 and so on, i guess
racar
jruderman, well the new version 3.6 just have been release .. but i see a release on the wiki (3.5.8) feb 16. so 3.5.8 is newer then 3.6 ??
Gh3rssp, normally something like this
Gh3rssp
oh
racar
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases
jruderman
racar: 3.5.8 will be 3.5.7 plus some security fixes. we'll keep making 3.5.x releases with security fixes for about 6 months so people don't all have to switch to 3.6 at once
e.g. in case some extensions don't work with 3.6 yet
there will also be a 3.6.1 or 3.6.2 with many of the same security fixes
racar
anyone have a list of all the update on the 3.6 ? because "my website" is not working on 3.6 ( display problem )
jruderman
what web site?
we fixed hundreds or maybe even thousands of bugs, so i think a "list of changes" isn't quite what you want
racar
jruderman , i see so im agree with you
do you think its a error from "my website" or from one of your update ? its work perfectly in 3+ version
jruderman
i'd say about equally likely
if you happen to have a reduced testcase i can probably find out really quickly
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Firefox_3.6_for_developers is probably the closest thing we have to what you originally asked for
that isn't a list of 3000 tiny changes
racar
thx ill look into that
jruderman
but if you can show me the brokenness, or even better a very tiny web page that shows the difference between 3.5 and 3.6, i might be able to tell you
whether it's a site bug or a firefox bug
racar
jruderman, we had the same problem of display with ie 6 !! i did some printscreen on my another laptop ( at the job ) so i dont have it right now. Do a reducted testcase can that time, ill see if i need to look more into this or not.
jruderman
ok
racar
Do you have any email so i can reach you ? or just via this channel ?
jruderman
this channel is best
racar
this is what i thought
Thank you for your help , ill try a reducted testcase and give it to you
catch23
did ff3.6 change permissions for navigating same-domain iframes? I can't seem to access window.top['otherFrame'] assumming current frame and otherFrame have the same domain/protocol/port
jruderman
changing permissions for *same-domain* iframes would be an odd thing to do. what happens when you try to access it?
catch23
permission denied
jruderman
do you get undefined? null? a security error? a wrapper that doesn't let you do what you want?
catch23
an exception is thrown
jruderman
just accessing window.top['otherFrame']
or trying to navigate it?
catch23
well, window.top['otherFrame'].document
jruderman
is otherFrame also same-origin?
oh, yeah, we made it so you can't access otherOriginWindow.document
if you want to navigate, do otherOriginWindow.location.href= (don't use document)
we made that change to match IE and reduce attack surface, iirc
catch23
otherFrame is same origin, port & protocol
jruderman
but that was in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=397828 which was earlier than 3.6 hmm
ok
catch23
the code works in webkit, safari, chrome, IE8, and FF3.5
jruderman
do you have a simple testcase i can play with?
catch23
simplest is to create a document with 2 iframes on the same domain, the top level domain should be something else.
then from one iframe, try to navigate the other in javascript
jruderman
what do you mean by "top level domain should be something else"?
catch23
you can modify your /etc/hosts to create 2 domains that point to localhost
oh i mean the top document (parent of the 2 iframes) can be on a different host
jruderman
i don't have a web server running on localhost, this might take a while
catch23
are you on a mac? or linux?
if you have python, you can run a quick server from any directory using python -c "import SimpleHTTPServer;SimpleHTTPServer.test()"
also, I have 2 domains that point to localhost, www.newlocalhost.com and www.sleepydo.com
jruderman
mac
i also have a hostname that points to localhost, warez.squarefree.com
catch23
here's the simplest test case I can come up with, this pastie describes 3 files, on 2 different domains: http://pastie.org/796292
jruderman
i'm surprised you're allowed to do window.top['frame1']
(are you???)
catch23
no, it works in all browsers... except FF3.6
chrome, safari, webkit, IE8, opera... you name it
they're on the same domain, why shouldn't they have access to each other?
jruderman
Error: Permission denied for <http://www.sleepydo.com> to get property Window.frame1 from <http://www.newlocalhost.com>.
Source File: http://www.sleepydo.com/~jruderman/test2.html
Line: 4
for one thing, there's a race condition
depending on whether test1 or test2 loads first
but the real problem is that you're trying to get a frame by name
