would anyone happen to use open tab relative?
I've updated to v1.1 for use with Namoroka but it doesn't work properly, i.e. at all.
"Tabs Open Relative" is the precise and correct name of the addon.
hm... seems some stuff in about:config has been tampered with by the update. I've now fixed so it works for everything save for opening a new tab (ctrl+t).
can't figure that one out.

good evening, anyone in using firebug? I have the following CSS problem:
I have the following CSS script attached to the page (just a sandbox test page, so nothing besides this stylesheet) - http://pastebin.org/82316
and the problem arises where firebug/firefox complains with the following error: invalid label: list-style: none;\n (Autocompleter.css (line 6))
list-style: none; is a valid declaration, afaik, and according to CSS validator...
if I take it out - I end up with the following error next: "missing ; before statement": border: 1px solid #7c7c7c;\n (Autocompleter.css (line 6))
the whole script validates fine on jigsaw, however, so any help in identifying what's causing the problem would be much appreciated!
this is reproducible using both latest FF3.5 + Firebug 1.4.0 and FF3.6 + Firebug 1.5.0
solifugus
I noticed firefox 3.5.7 pauses for so long it asks if I want to stop the script, with just 10,000 object instantiations. When is the faster, Spidermonkey javascript engine going to be implemented?
rjohnson19
LaLeche: I don't see any complaints from Firefox/bug, just putting that CSS in a <style> tag.
kbrosnan
solifugus: already is. unless you are using x64
solifugus
ok.. then its just not that fast with object instantiations... hmm..
LaLeche
rjohnson19, CSS attached as a <link rel="stylesheet" ...
solifugus
Is there some way to tell the browser to be more patient? Let the script run a while before offering the user the option of stopping it?
I am downloading chrome now.. to see how it handles it..
kbrosnan
webworkers or defer attibute
have a public testcase?

DASPRiD
yeha worker thread should do fine
kbrosnan, i have one: quakelive :)
after playing a game, firefox tells you that the script is running too long
LaLeche
rjohnson19, any ideas?

rjohnson19
LaLeche: Still nothing, sorry. Only thing out of the ordinary is the inconsistent indentation / whitespace, but that shouldn't affect anything...
kbrosnan
off topic to the slowness, but there is some poor browser detection code in the ap
app
solifugus
Wow.. ok.. Google Chrome is much, much, much faster....... virtually no pause at all.
at least at javascript instantiations for sure

hey all, I'm trying to use local links on an internal webpage for workstations to run scripts on a local NAS (mapped as Z), i.e. <a href="file:///Z:/folder/myscript.bat">
Firefox blocks local links for security reasons, there is supposed to be a workaround by editing the user.js file per these instructions http://kb.mozillazine.org/Links_to_local_pages_don%27t_work
it looks like these are pretty old though (they mention Ffox 1.5, I'm currently on 3.5) and its not working, can someone point me to update doc re: this issue, or any other tips?

Hi there - im having a problem with XMLHttpRequest. When I run the request async, it runs fine although this isnt the intention - when I run non-async, Firefox throws this error: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIXMLHttpRequest.send]"  nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)"  location: "JS frame :: file:///Users/kyle/Desktop/CIT%20IIT%20TEST/test
:: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 5"  data: no].. however, the same behaviour works fine in Safari
LaLeche
any ideas why this CSS http://pastebin.org/82335 produces the following FF error: missing ; before statement [Break on this error] ul.autocompleter-choices {\n (Autocompleter.css (line 1))
queso
okay, so I added the mozilla repositories and stuff, did a `sudo apt-get install firefox-3.6`, it didn't error out but it didn't look like it did anything . . says it's "already the newest version" when I try installing it again. What's up? firefox-3.6 is certainly not on my machine (Ubuntu Jaunty). Help?

good evening
Firefox 3.5.6 running in F12... I am unable to "check for updates" to update to 3.6... any ideas?
rjohnson19
You'll need to use your distros update mecanism to get the latest version.

MHz128
ohhh ic.
rjohnson19, thanks!

hi, I'm running linux (gnome) and my desktop ui font is "DejaVU Sans Condensed", but Firefox only shows "DejaVu sans" and looks ugly, is there a way to fix it?
(on Firefox UI)
Silowyi
So lately I've been getting the following error practically spamming my console in Firefox 3.6: Error: [Exception... "'JavaScript component does not have a method named: "onLocationChange"' when calling method: [nsIWebProgressListener::onLocationChange]" nsresult: "0x80570030 (NS_ERROR_XPC_JSOBJECT_HAS_NO_FUNCTION_NAMED)" location:
the location varies, sometimes it's blank, sometimes it's nsSession.js
err nsSessionStartup.js
sometimes nsSessionStore.js too

how can I change Firefox UI Font?

seems to be related to the new version of FlashGot... fun

hi. Namoroka apparently has native support for opening tabs relative. but I can't find out how to open *new* tabs relatively. I've tried setting linksonly to false, to no avail. only links open relative.
albert_kam
i tried extracting firefox3.6 at my friend's PC which is still using opensuse 10.2, it works out fine, but one thing is strange, the preferences window dialog is blank panel ..
assuming it is a corrupt data problem, i deleted his ~/.mozilla and restarted firefox, but the problem persists
any idea how to troubleshoot this ? or any helpful information i havent posted ?
indietrash
can't he just upgrade it with his respective operating system's package manager?
albert_kam
well, opensuse 10.2 is not supported anymore
i just wonder if there's a workaround for this problem before installing his OS with a newer version
everything else works fine, just the blank panel of preferences dialog
indietrash
isn't there a mozilla repository? openSuse uses .rpms, right?
mzz
albert_kam: is that still happening in firefox safe mode?
albert_kam: also, anything interesting on the error console (start firefox, open error console, clear it, open pref window, look at error console)?
albert_kam
indietrash: a version when not supported means no repository for the version
mzz: yes i tried safe mode .. still the same .. although i dont check all the boxes, only a few like resetting toolbarn stuff ..
mzz
no, that's not what I meant
I meant hit the "Continue in safe mode" button there
you don't need any of the checkboxes
albert_kam
mzz: aha .. havent tried that, im gonna try .. will check error console also .. brb
mzz: sadly, the dude is having a meeting, and i aint got his password to unlock his X.
mzz
heh
indietrash
albert_kam: start the computer in single user mode and change it ^^
albert_kam
indietrash: lol ..
indietrash: afaik, in opensuse, single user mode still asks for root passwd ..
indietrash
albert_kam: the point of single user mode is to reset the root password
albert_kam: you append single to the kernel line and vóila
mzz
oh, I've used it for other things
but as long as you're not locked out of the bootloader then yes, you can get in and change it
indietrash
albert_kam: if that requires password, append init=/bin/bash as well.
albert_kam
yes, i had these experiences before. i tried appending the single parameter at grub .. but still asked for root password. havent tried the init=/bin/bash tho .. interesting to try out .. will save me many hours of booting from rescue dvd, messing stuffs with /etc/passwd or shadow stuffs ..
but i wouldnt dare doing that now with my colleague
's pc .. coz he could have unsaved stuffs at his kde
indietrash: thanks, the single init=/bin/bash works. just tried that on another unused pc.
indietrash
albert_kam: now you know why people use GRUB and BIOS passwords. ;)
albert_kam

Anyone know a firefox plugin that will allow me to 'rewrite' javascript URLs such that my own script content will be executed rather than the URL defined in the <script> tag ... I could use tamper data but it seems rather manual.
Cork
sjj: you mean replace the js file in the <script> tag?
sjj
yes essentially, I don't want the website's javascript to be executed, instead I want my own custom javascript to be executed ... I can't find a simple way to do this with greasemonkey
Cork
sjj: depends on how they execute the scripts in the script file
sjj: you can remove the <script> element, but that won't really change much if its already called
sjj
Cork: that's why I was hoping to rewrite it before the browser fetches and executes the script
Cork
sjj: so the simplest way would be to overide its functions
sjj
Cork: this must be possible as tamper data will essentially let me do it
Cork
sjj: not that i know of
sjj
Cork: overriding the functions isn't a good idea, as some of them are called onload etc, so there would be quite a few race conditions
Cork
sjj: you could use something like adblock or noscript to block the script
sjj: you can replace function before the onload
sjj
Cork: with which plugin? greasemonkey?
Cork
greasemoneky
just don't wait for the onload
sjj
sounds like a race-condition ... there are also functions called in response to images loading
Cork
onload will trigger when the dom is stable, the code will still be there before that
sjj
because I have to wait for the script to be executed _before_ I run my replacement, but before the onloads are called
Cork
so overideing functions is safe, as long as the <script> that includes them are in the header
sjj: so run two script
sjj: one that killes the old functions => oldfuntion = function () {};
and one that lissen for the onload
sjj
I guess it's possible, but i'll have to handle multiple onload events (images / body / etc)

hi
my firefox keeps crashing over and over :(
had to install chrome to surf
mzz
...
mathi: do you get the firefox crash reporter?
oh, sorry
I managed to misread "had" as "how"
mathi
mm /// let me wait next crash )
mzz
mathi: I just need to know if you submitted any crash reports (using mozilla's crash reporter)
mathi: if you did we can look those up and hopefully use them to figure out why it's crashing
mathi
ok I got a crash now
I have a pop up
it's in french, something like an error reporter
when I click on details, I got this text:
http://pastebin.com/m7dc002b0
mzz,
mzz
mathi: sorry, was distracted. Looking now
mathi: please submit that crash report and then give the resulting id (I can help you look that up, see:)
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Mozilla+Crash+Reporter#Viewing_reports_outside_of_Firefox
mathi: I'd like to have the id of three or so recently submitted crash reports (just their id, not the entire report)
if firefox stays up long enough you can just view about:crashes in it
mathi
mzz
thanks, loadign
loading, even
not enough bots in here, so going through http://konigsberg.mozilla.org/crash-stats.html
(Action) wonders why they're not loading yet
huh, they're not loading
mathi: they're listed as submitted in about:crashes, right? Do they load for you if you follow the link in about:crashes?
mathi
mzz, yes, i goive you the links ?
mzz
mathi: you gave me the ids, but loading them through the crash-stats helper failed.
mathi: if you follow the actual links does that work? I'm wondering if the helper I'm using broke

huh, now they do load
mathi
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-de84c533-ba3f-42e9-87e9-e66232100126
just got a new crash: http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/pending/a26c39df-61c5-4239-a4f6-b48ee2100126
mzz
mathi: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=503946#c4
mathi: you probably have a broken (possibly malicious) component in your firefox install folder. Try removing it, as mentioned above.
mathi
OMGGG
mzz
although I don't see it in the "modules" list, which is a bit odd.
anyway, please check. If you can't find it I'd try to do a fresh install of firefox into a completely empty directory and see if that also crashes.
mathi
mzz, can't find any file named FirefoxExt30.pdb
mzz
yes.
"with a random number as the filename"
which I'm not seeing in your modules list, but I'd still try a fresh install into an empty directory.
albert_kam
mzz: hellow, i've just tried what you suggested, by using -safe-mode and click the continue with safe mode button .. the preferences dialog shows up all right ..
mzz: and then i tried manually disabling all extensions, and then try firefox without the safe-mode option, and the preferences dialog still displays blank panel
mzz
albert_kam: fishy! Can you try the "Reset toolbars and controls" option in the safe mode dialog?
at least I think that's what it's called
albert_kam
mzz: i tried that yesterday, but lemme try again now
just a minute
mzz
albert_kam: and please keep your extensions disabled at the same time
albert_kam
mzz: i tried all the checkboxes one by one, and the last try, i check them all .. all produce the same result, still blanks
one entry of the checkboxes is disable all addons
although i've manually disabled them all at my first try on -safe-mode
let me try on another box, which has the same opensuse version n ff3.6
mzz
that's pretty weird, since there's not *that* much safe mode actually disables.
albert_kam
mzz: it happens to on another opensuse 10.2 box .. so it's not exclusive to my friend's pc
mzz
I don't know what the current list is, though.
hmm, sec
albert_kam
ok :)
/s/to/too
mzz
albert_kam: very long shot, but can you try disabling javascript.options.jit.chrome in about:config and restarting firefox? Remember to reset that pref if it doesn't help.
