EdePopede
morning
jp--
hi guys. Do you know how can I get started on making a windowless plugin for firefox, just like Flash with transparent and opaque options for its display on the browser?
tkroo
can anyone tell me what font should be used here? http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=847
somehow my font has been over-ridden by another, or something...
EdePopede
do you use a user css?
tkroo
no
i'm on a mac btw
i'm just wondering if reinstalling ff will solve it, or do i need to search through my fonts and figure out which one is causing the problem
EdePopede
but these are the tabs? so os should make no difference i think, since it is chrome
tkroo
ok
EdePopede
i just looked in about:config
nothing in userChrome.css?
tkroo
i will check
but i'm pretty sure i've never touched userchrome
is userchrome in my profile directory?

EdePopede
it is
auscompgeek
tkroo
ok, well then i don't have a userchrome.css
EdePopede
userChrome-example.css should be in chrome/
hm
auscompgeek
what's the problem, I just joined a few minutes ago.
EdePopede
do you use a style?
http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=847
the font in tabs is wrong
tkroo
yeah, my fonts suddenly changed.
i noticed it after a re-boot
EdePopede
but looks to me like a styled font
do you still have the usual fonts?
if after reboot, maybe it has been deleted
tkroo
hmmm... i guess i will deactivate all the fonts i have installed (but not system fonts) and see if that fixes it.
ok, that fixed it. so some font that i installed was causing the problem. thanks!
yay. back to normal : http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=848
EdePopede
so it was not using the font it uses now? but how? some kind of overlaying?
tkroo
i'm not sure, but i guess that some font i had installed was over-riding a system font.
or something... ;)
i deactivated 151 fonts, so i'm not sure which one it was
EdePopede
the other one is monospace but shouldn't be
i remember those font disks from years ago....
tkroo
yeah, that's what was bothering me. because everything took up so much more space. i could see fewer bookmarks
EdePopede
does mac show font previews in its file manager? (forgot the name *g*)
tkroo
yes it does
using "quicklook"
i use a free version of Linotype Font Explorer
uhsf
has Firefox added new shortcut key to open preferences window (ctrl+|) or is it me who hacked something and don't remember?
tkroo
ah, the "file manager" is called "Finder"
if that's what you mean
auscompgeek
great, all I see are QUITs and JOINs...
Peng
Close your eyes. :)
auscompgeek
omg, 3 _s...

"The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded." How to disable this message (when I middle-click to some link, but miss). I don't want the "pasting" links to the pages to cause opening these links.
Already found: "middlemouse.contentLoadURL".

Anyone know how to silently install an add-on on Linux?
MTX_SPIN
does browser.cache.disk/memory.enable set to false over ride the settings of network.http.use-cache being true?
hackel
Is there any way to override the ability of websites to disable form auto-completion? (other than with an extension--like a preference setting?)
Pathero-ng
hello
I set permisions on the files in the plugin folder
to read only for user gruoup
and remove execution and wirte capabiliteis
all owned by root still my fiurefox loads slow
Lunis
is there a way to make linux firefox have fullscreen-like window buttons by default?
xangua
¿¿
ymas
hackel: if the site is using autocomplete=off to disable form auto-complete then you can tell firefox to ignore it
Lunis: if you press F-11, you get fullscreen
hackel
ymas: Yes, that's what I meant. How can I do that?
ymas
Lunis
ymas: yes, i know. i want to remove the window decorations by default and have the window buttons merged into the top bar, as per fullscreen mode, just without the auto-collapse of the header
ymas: then i can press f11 to aut-collapse
Mike1
hey! i want to save webpages or parts of them as image & i found an addon named Screengrab but it has no keyboard shortcuts which makes it time-consuming to use
any alternatives?
Lunis
Mike1: as in, a scrolling web page as 1 image?
hackel
ymas: But this says that the option is not supported...
Lunis
Mike1: I'm going to assume you mean capturing a full scrolling webpage as one image. Use SnagIt, it's the only way i know of. Linux has no such option, unfortunately
Mike1
Lunis: unfortunately im using Ubuntu & capturing the area which is displayed at the moment would be enough
xangua
Lunis: have you tried hide caption: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9256
Lunis: http://shortkut.deviantart.com/art/Desktop-10-01-07-149551311
Mike1
Lunis: just found Screenshot Pimp & looks like it will do what i want :-)
Lunis
Mike1: ah. i use Shutter for screenshots
hackel
Mike1: Just press alt-PrintScrn you don't need any additional software.
Lunis
xangua: that's /exactly/ what i wanted!
Pathero-ng
the addional softwre saves it auomaticaly and can save multipla shots
ymas
hackel: sorry, I misread, it appears that you can't.
Mike1
hackel: screenshots of whole applications are no problem, but i want screenshots of the displayed website only
hackel
Mike1: I find Gimp's crop tool works quite well, but if that app saves you time then that's great.
Pathero-ng
I hav a problem
loading firefox from user account takes extra time then with root I disabled all plugins removed the addon
still loads slow
ymas
Mikel: so you want a screenshot of the active window only?
Pathero-ng
; (
hackel
Pathero-ng: Try running it with "strace -c -p" to see what it's spending time doing, and then compare that to starting the system firefox and check the difference.
Pathero-ng
from comoand line you mean
from the command prompt?
hackel
Pathero-ng: yes, of course.
Pathero-ng
not using su right
hackel
Pathero-ng: No, you don't need root access.
Pathero-ng
never to run firefox?
hackel
And you don't need -p either, that's for the pid of a running process.
Pathero-ng: What?
Pathero-ng
that I don't ever need sudo to run firefox
hackel
Pathero-ng: No, you should avoid running any applications as root.
Pathero-ng
ok hacker I run firefox strace -c and a website wth strace.com show up
hackel
Pathero-ng: Why are you trying to run Firefox from a user account in the first place? Clearly you do not know enough to be doing any programming or debugging. Just stick with the one included in your distribution.
Pathero-ng
what
why am I trying to run as user?
I should sudo for strace then/>
hackel
Pathero-ng: No, I'm saying from a local installation as opposed to a system-wide installation. Perhaps I misunderstood your original question.
djuggler
Has anyone ever seen a case of add-ons simply not working? My FIL's got the most current version of FF but the add-ons like webdeveloper toolbar, firebug and forecastfox don't load at all.
Pathero-ng
tell me
I dont' undetand
hey I notice somehitng
running firefox off command line is faster then from icon
hackel
Pathero-ng: What, exactly, is the problem? Firefox is faster run as the root user than as a normal user, each with clean profiles?
kbrosnan
djuggler: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons#Corrupt_extension_files
Pathero-ng
how to clean my profile
kbrosnan
firefox -P
hackel
Pathero-ng: delete it, or move it out of the way.
Pathero-ng
I choosed not to delete files by accident
where to find those file so I can kill them myself
kbrosnan
Pathero-ng: run fierfox -P
Pathero-ng
but
hackel
Pathero-ng: mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla-old
djuggler
kbrosnan: thx
Pathero-ng
I know why is failing
hackel man
I have the shortcut set to firefox whole path
rather then just firefox
so what should I do
what is the correct configutation
hackel
Pathero-ng: Seriously, just use what was set up by your distribution and stop messing with it!
Pathero-ng
I already mesed it
that's why I want to fix it
what is the location of the shortcut shoul dbe
hackel
Pathero-ng: Generally, it should just be "firefox %u".
Pathero-ng
kinit could not find
:(
hackel
kinit? What does this have to do with anything?
Pathero-ng
taht's what the icon says
hackel
Icons cannot say anything. What distribution are you using, first of all?
Pathero-ng
bt3
hackel
I have no clue what that means.
Pathero-ng
based on slack
hackel
Pathero-ng: That is insane. I don't mean to offend you here, but it seems like you know next to nothing about Linux, you should be using a more user-friendly distribution.
Pathero-ng
I like slackware it shoulds cool
