is there a way to make new tabs open right next to the current tab instead of at the end in firefox?
kbrosnan
fedorauser162: use an extension or firefox 3.6rc1
fedorauser162
kbrosnan, how do i find the right extension?
Accesshater
fedorauser162: https://addons.mozilla.org
fedorauser162

cryton
what version of firefox are you on?
i thought 3.5 opened to right already
fedorauser162
3.5.6
cryton
search for open tab right
Tab Control 0.5.2 looks like a likely candidate

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1956

cryton

Accesshater

Armok
Wait, what happened, are you still there?

Hellos
Is there a way to have firefox run seprate logins for sites like gmail.com?
Right now, FF assumes a new window would use the same login info, changing it there, changes it in all tabs. That makes it hard to switch between accounts and such
Accesshater1
CartoonCat cant you use an addon for that. I use an addon that checks mijn gmail accounts for new mail and lets me login with one button.
CartoonCat
Accesshater1: well i need it for more then just gmail, gmail is just the best known example
Accesshater1
that sir i dont know
sorry
CartoonCat
thats ok, ty for trying
mplabs
hey, is there a bug or something with the last update of the browser ?
rjohnson19
mplabs: Um, could you be more specific, please?
smeea
hello guys. how could i disable extension compatibility check with new 3.6rc1?
Accesshater1
smeea: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Updating_extensions
smeea
my old 'extensions.checkCompatibility.3.6b' does nothing after update
Accesshater1
because you use a wrong value
name*
smeea
ah, tnx. with rc1 i dont need 'b' postfix, extensions.checkCompatibility.3.6 work perfect
mplabs
I don't know rjohnson19, my browser starts to crash now and I lost a session u.u
rjohnson19
Do you get a crash report dialog? If so, go to about:crashes and paste the newest ID / link here.
mplabs
no, just it closed
and this evening I tried to unclose a tab but this feature doesn't work too :/

CartoonCat
ok, how aobut a way to make new windows open in a new session? used ot have a isolator app on windows, but afaik ive never seen such for linux
mplabs
(by the way, Firefox 3.5.7 on Linux)
rjohnson19
These problems aren't specific enough for a bug. Maybe try some of the steps at http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting, such as Safe Mode, or a new profile.
mplabs
I know.. but I don't have more information, it just closed suddenly
can I get the session that I lost in the last crash ?
Firefox offered me a previous session
but not the last one
rjohnson19
Probably your session was lost in the crash. Its kept in a file called sessionstore.js in your profile and is probably overwritten with your present / last session.
mplabs
and I lost the history too :P
well, no problem..
thank you for your time rjohnson19
rjohnson19
No problem.

I'm running FF on Ubuntu 9.10... having trouble with a domain: http://jianyo.tw/ It resolves on my Windows computer fine, but didn't work on Ubuntu until I disabled network.dns.disableIPv6
Anyone have any ideas why?
xangua
it loads in mine, maybe your DNS are the problem amerinese
Peng
amerinese: jianyo.tw has IPv6 address ::1
amerinese: Some idiot put in a broken DNS record.
amerinese: You should send 'em an email. :)
amerinese
Ah, Peng, so the DNS server isn't setting IPv6 properly
but does support it
Peng
amerinese: Hopefully a bit friendlier than what I said, though. ;)
amerinese
Is that correct?
Gh3rssp
Peng!
Peng
amerinese: No. ::1 is the localhost address, the IPv6 equivalent of 127.0.0.1.
amerinese: jianyo.tw's DNS administrator made a dumb mistake.
amerinese
Ah ok, so correct IPv4 correct, bad IPv6, but is DNS commonly supporting IPv6 these days?
Peng
amerinese: What do you mean by DNS "supporting" IPv6?
amerinese
DNS servers are return IPv6 addresses if requested these days?
I'm pretty clueless, I mean, I know what a DNS server basically does domain name -> IP address
Peng
amerinese: DNS clients typically ask for both IPv6 and IPv4 records.
amerinese
Ah, then Firefox uses IPv6 if possible?
Peng
amerinese: Uh-huh.
amerinese
Okay, gotcha, very enlightening
Peng
amerinese: Everything is operating as designed here. jianyo.tw's DNS administrator made a mistake, and it's breaking things.
amerinese: I assume it works on Windows because you have no IPv6 stack or something.
amerinese
Yeah, its Vista, I'm not sure if it supports IPv6 or maybe the default on Firefox Windows is possibly different
Peng
amerinese: I assume it fails on Ubuntu because Firefox *can* find a route to ::1 -- but you're not running a web server on your PC, so it fails to connect.
amerinese: Vista should.
amerinese
Right
Peng
amerinese: It's also possible your Windows DNS server/resolver is stripping out the ::1 reply because it's weird./
amerinese
haha
Peng
I mean because the reply is weird.
amerinese
Another possibility
Maybe an email is in order
Peng
It is.
amerinese
Appreciate the help Peng
Peng
:)
What the heck? They only have one DNS server, too.
On the same IP as their web server, too.
They got away with it because the registrar/registry was dumb enough to let them list the same nameserver twice...
amerinese
Shouldn't they just use their registrar's nameserver?
CartoonCat
amerinese: the net was designed so that you run your own nameservers for your own networks (you dont have to, its just what was expected 20 years ago when this was designed)
Peng
There's no technical benefit to using your registrar's nameserver. Use whichever DNS host you like. :)

I recently installed the 3.6rc1 but when I look at help | about firefox it now says 3.6 <period.> does this mean it has gone final??
[reed]
frybye: no, we treat RCs as what we're going to actually release, which means the final version number, even though that may not end up being the actual final build
frybye
[reed]: oh - i see - shame - I thought I had spotted something before the masses...! ;)
[reed]
hah
I'm 99.99999999999999999999% sure there will at least be an RC2... now, after that, who knows
frybye
how does joe blogs know which build he has??
[reed]
by the build id
which is part of your user agent and can be viewed from about: and "About Mozilla Firefox"
frybye
I see all this stuff: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100105 Firefox/3.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) but have no idea which bit is the buld id?
[reed]
ah, I guess the UA doesn't contain the full build id
go to about:
frybye
hang on...
[reed]
huh
frybye
have seen about:buildconfig but load of techy stuff that tells a joe like me not much at all - never mind...
[reed]
frybye: javascript:navigator.buildID
in your URL field
should give you the full build ID
frybye
[reed]: thanks - it says 20100105212446 - but of course what i was expecting was something like 3.6.rc*
but I guess that is a ver. no. and not a build right...
klikklak
hi, firefox polls nytimes and amazon and other sites when I open a site not related. whats going on?
could it be adblock?
I've got adblock, betterprivacy, customizegoogle, fastestfox, foxyproxy, ghostery, powertwitter, password export, read it later and trackmenot enabled
pwdhash
sinclair
hi everyone
what are the requirements for a favicon to show up in firefox?
Peng
sinclair: Show up where? The location bar? Bookmarks? Search plugin?
sinclair
location bar...
Peng
sinclair: The appropriate <link> tag and/or /favicon.ico existing...
sinclair
i got both but it doesn't work
and when i check page info it says icon and when i click it i see it too... ah this is frustrating...
Peng
Anything strange about the image? MIME type correct? Sure you haven't made a typo somewhere?
(Action) shrugs
sinclair
haha i can't make a typo dreamweaver handles that for me
but i've checked
no it works in IE8 but not firefox
Peng
Done a hard refresh? (Ctrl+Shift+R or, um, Ctrl+F5 or somesuch.)
sinclair
yup didn't work
nodie
hi

nodie: Looks like J (and Shift+J to unmark).
nodie: Poke around in the menus.
nodie

I have a question about thunderbird, I have not found an appropriate channel for this question. But I'll try: when I click the reply-button while viewing an email, thunderbird quotes the entire message, but I would like to reply starting with an empty message window, is that possible ..?
Accesshater
seniorake try irc.mozilla.org #thunderbird
seniorake
thank you

hi how do I disable css in firefox permanently?
tnzr
hi guys, can anyone confirm whether or not the jit security hole was patched? is it safe to set javascript.options.jit.content back to true?
gavin
"the jit security hole"?
the jit is enabled in our releases, so yes, it's safe to have that pref at its default value (assuming you're using the latest version of firefox)
ryoma
i got a "well this is embarrassing" page when ff started up. i pressed start new session without comprehending that it would get rid of all my tabs. is there a way to get all my tabs back? thanks.
are they just gone?
tnzr
thanks gavin
ryoma
ok, so i should assume session saver saves only one session?
Cork[home]
ryoma: you can try tab mix plus or session manager
both let you "store" old sessions
ryoma
Cork[home]: thanks for answering. that is useful for the future. just wondering if there is a backup for the present.
Cork[home]
firefox stores the last session in sessionstore.bak
the surrent session is sessionstore.js
*current
but that will only be untill the next restart, so it might be over written
ryoma
this is true for crash recovery also?
gavin
ryoma: just load about:sessionstore
your session should still be there
ryoma
gavin: it doesn't seem to recognize that
i am using the latest ff though. strange.
Cork[home]: thanks. i think it's totally lost unless it's in memory someplace. :(
gavin
ryoma: sorry, about:sessionrestore
have you restarted since clicking "start new"?
ryoma
gavin: ok that worked but brought up well this is embarrassing and the session was not the one that crashed
oxez`
hello. I noticed that (since I have installed windows 7 / x64), everytime I close firefox, firefox.exe process doesn't get killed properly. If I don't notice it right away (playing a game for example), it's memory usage can go up to 400mb, while CPU usage stays at ~50%. Is there something I can do to see what's wrong here?
ryoma
gavin_: no, i did not restart since clicking it but it still did not store it. thansk for your help
