hi all
has anyone had any success getting laptop trackpad gestures for forward/back working in FF? it works by default in IE
you swipe right for forward, left for back across the top
scrolling up/down works on the trackpad, forward/back never has
Froolap
steve install ie and wine.

Froolap: nnnnnot really the solution I'm looking for..

way to determine current profile directory, while running/without restart?
alabd
Good day everyone , while pages that have been opened in firefox are closed by CTRL+Q ,next time when we run firefox ,(while internet connections is stoped) pages will be opened again and we can see their contents, but now there is problem that pages will be opened without their contents .
kthomas_vh
opened without their contents?
alabd
yes like time is connected to net .. kthomas_vh
kthomas_vh
if the net connection is down and they are not in cache, FF will attempt reload but not be able to establish a connection
alabd
see there is problem with cache you mean yes kthomas_vh ?
how to know whether cache is ok ?

kthomas_vh
this is not a problem
cache only stays around for a limited amount of time
if you want pages to be available off-line, you'll need to find a method that does that
alabd
what do you mean of cache only stays around for a limited amount of time
kthomas_vh
it's cache, google the term ;)
as in "temporary storage"
alabd
does it use cpu cache kthomas_vh?
an
and do you mean cache will remain e.f for some days ?
kthomas_vh
alabd, no offense, you're asking about relative computing basics
CPU cache is not browser cache, though they are similar
alabd
see it was ok and after restarting ff firefox has been opening tabs and their contents offline ...(while net was dc)
kthomas_vh
you seem to be experiencing normal behavior ;)
alabd
but after a time that system has been reseted by lack of power maybe firefox after that can not save ...
kthomas_vh
again, you seem to be experiencing normal behavior ;)
cache is not there to preserve pages when you go off-line
it is there to speed loading
alabd
after that time ff will not open tabs with their previous contents without internet
kthomas_vh
you should not expect FF to EVER open tabs without being connected to the internet
alabd
why ?
kthomas_vh
(unless you're using a solution for offline browsing)
because it's a BROWSER and requires a connection to function ?
alabd
see before that time ff was possibe do that each time in months ...
each time ok ?
but after that system reset something is wrong ..and ff can not load previous pages ..
kthomas_vh
you may have been using an offline browsing plugin, or you may have otherwise been lucky
but REGARDLESS, you're expecting a feature that is not part of FF
natively, at least
alabd
no plugin was there !
no such plugin or related one ...
strang
strange*
with ctrl+q ff was possible to load prev pages in next time offlinely
ok thanks anyhow kthomas_vh
bye
kthomas_vh
^^ nothing like sticking around

how come firefox (firebug) shows japanese characters in the headers?
MrKeuner
hello, I was upgrading zotero extension from 2b74 to 2b76 and it asked me to restart firefox. But no matter how many times I restart firefox it still keeps asking me to restart. Does it sound like a zotero or firefox problem?
or how can I trace the problem?
is there a log kept somewhere?

hi - Firefox 3.5 on Windows XP - will not display inline images

willm
Ok. So there's incredibly infuriating bug in 3.5
When Firefox doesn't have focus, and I click on it to get focus
I usually click on the tab I want
Often (maybe 10% of the time), Firefox hangs a little bit, and decides to interpret this click as a drag
Thus dragging the tab out into a new window
How do I prevent this?
crashdata

hi, I tried to build firefox with jssh enabled
it worked when I run it from its objdir, but when I do a make package from the objdir, it does not build jssh in the package
is there a special way to include extensions in the built package ?
is it the right channel for those kinds of questions ?
codedread
did I imagine that Firefox used to have an Undo Close Tab?
gavin
codedread: no. it still does.
ctrl+shift+t, or see the history menu
codedread
i'm on OSX using 3.5.5
i think it used to be on my context menu when i click on a tab
my Recently Closed Tabs submenu in History is greyed out too
gavin
did you disable session restore using a hidden pref?
or install an addon that messes with it?
codedread
addon - not sure will check that
hidden pref - don't think so (do you remember the name of hte pref?)
gavin
I'm not sure tehre still is a pref
think it was removed
codedread
addons: just gears, adblock and Firebug (1.5b)
gavin
though maybe not in 3.5
codedread
but i may have noticed that being gone since installing hte beta of Firebug...
gavin
you could try enabling javascript.options.showInConsole and checking the error console for session-restore-related errors
codedread
not sure i get it - i thought 'session' was the entire set of tabs i have open (for when i start firefox up again)
gavin
it is
codedread
right now when i close a tab i don't see a way to resurrect it from the grave
gavin
but the "undo close tab" feature uses the sessionstore service
implementation detail, but that's how that error would expose itself
codedread
ok
will try invoking with a new profile rsn
thx
commiebob

What extensions do people suggest for cookie management? I'm not looking for a cookie whitelist button such as CS Lite. I'm after something which has an in-built black list of major tracking cookies and prevents them from being stored
I already have .macromedia symlinked to /dev/null so don't need to worry about Flash cookies
auscompgeek
no extensions :)
just use the builtin feature :)
or just use ABP if you are using it :P
Venko
That doesn't help me with knowing which sites store those cookies so I can add them to my own home-made blacklist though
I use ABP but it doesn't prevent all tracking cookies
auscompgeek
use the EasyPrivacy list
Venko
OK, thank you
dgd
firefox is only partialling loading pages... and on fedora 12 3.5.5 tar ball crashes immediately
hsquared
Hi there
I am going a little crazy with cookies in FF 3.5.5
I think in 3.0 FF kept cookies even when you restart it, xample: the login cookie for delicious bookmarks or google calendar
now, every time I restart FF I have to reenter my delicious login data
which kills my nerves
how can I get cookies permanent? (I don't care which advertising guys collect my shopping data, I don't shop ;-))
kbrosnan
hsquared: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Cannot+log+in+to+websites
or being in private browsing mode
hsquared
thanks kbrosnan
I went a little deeper into the topic before and my settings we like described behind your link
but I'll read it carefully again
kbrosnan
could have a corrupt cookies file
hsquared
mmmh, xing.com, maps.google.com, google.com, google.de and delicious.com are explictily allowed
but maybe I'll just kick the cookies file, can you give a hint where it is in the profile? any cryptic or just cookies.txt?
kbrosnan
cookies.sqlite
profile location depends on the os
hsquared
thanks
yeah, I know
o.k., thanks over all, I'll get back when it can't be solved
HermanoSoares
any brazilian here?
hsquared
kbrosnan: crazy behaviour: completey wiped out cookies.sqlite and cookies.sqlite-journal
restarted, the same cookies-exceptions are still there
maybe the exceptions are written somewhere else
torba
does firefox have javascript console? (like google chrome)
hsquared
sure
look in Extras menu
kbrosnan
also see the firebug extension
torba
i don't javascript console in the firebug...
kbrosnan
the error console is what hsquared is was talking about
in firebug the script tab
hsquared
:-)
torba
i've just understand how it works, there is a little red button in the corner
kbrosnan

torba
hello all,
HermanoSoares

i want to block javascript that displays a confirmation dialogue when exiting a page. i know ff has the ability to do this but i can't get it to work. anyone done it successfully?
i've tried onbeforeunload and onunload
doesn't look like anyone knows how to use it, or if it's broken. no documentation either
bipolar
I'm trying to figure out why I keep getting a message about firefox already running when I try to start it. I'm using glusterfs mounted home directories. I can get firefox to start if I remove the .parentlock file from the profile directory. However I notice that on my laptop, this file is still there when I close firefox, yet firefox will still start on that one. Does anyone have any clue what's going on?
pad
hi, how do I force 'make package' to include in the tarball the extensions that I have added in the mozconfig ?
I compiled firefox from the mercurial source, and got an extension built in (jssh)
and I was able to run firefox from its dist/bin/ directory and have jssh enabled
but when I do the 'make package', jssh is gone :(
crc32
here's a really hard one. Why does https://www.npha.net insist the cert is invalid due to a mismatched hostname when the URL and the CN match completly?
kbrosnan
the comma looks odd
crc32
It has to alernative subject alternative entries
X509v3 Subject Alternative Name:
DNS:www.npha.net , DNS:npha.net
I think there is a space in the name that is breaking everything
kbrosnan
addtionally openssl returns the following Verify return code: 20 (unable to get local issuer certificate)
crc32
Yea I keep hitting that too.
but the complaint is on the host name
kbrosnan
looks like the trailing space is not normal
