I can't install Firefox on Windows 7 all of a sudden, it says "You may not have the necessary permissions to use all the features of the program you are about to run. You may run this program as a different user or continiue to run the program as the current user"
And then I can choose "Current user (my name)" or "Run the program as the following user:", but I'm the only user on this computer
I'm gonna ask in the windows channel too..
alus
how do I prevent my page from being cached in the bfcache?
it's broken
highvoltz
is it possible to view a submitted form url within firefox for debugging?
robgleeson
highvoltz: tried firebug?
stsm
how can i print a website smaller?
and why is it so hard to find?
i dont want HUUUUUUGGEEEEE letters
joako
My homepage "steals" the cursor focus so I open a new window and start to type in the search box but when the homepage has loaded a text box steals the cursor focus so the last few letters of my search get typed there. How do I disable this annoying behaviour?
kbrosnan
joako: only way would be to disable javascript

Hey guys, I'm planning to learn some XUL/extension development. I've looked around on mozdev and tried creating an example extension. Is there any way to interactively play with JS and XUL in FF?
I regularily use Firebug, can I use that to enter JS and XUL, or must I create and use an example extension every time?
MrKeuner
is it possible to have a jetpack application that let's you click on a button every 4 hours for example?
that will automatically click a button I tried to mean

Can someone help me please. I'm trying to play eucher on yahoo. I have enabled popups for this site. I can log into the lounge, but I can't get the table to display. I can click on watch, join, or create table. A second window will open, it will say applet started, but it will never draw the table.
http://games.yahoo.com/eu;_ylc=X3IDMgRtcANibARwb3MDNDQEc2VjA2dhbWVsaXN0BHNsawNFdWNocmU-
MrKeuner
and the button is embedded in a macromedia flash object
Froolap
Can someone tell me how to fix this?
MrKeuner
Froolap, check your java VM version
Froolap
I have just updated the java.
xarragon
MrKeuner: I don't crap about Firefox development, but if the button sends data I'd just capture the network traffic and setup a shell script with curl that sent the requests.
MrKeuner
Yahoo might be assuming that you have sun's java
xarragon, shouldn't any button click be sending some data?
Oh I see what you mean, may be it is doing something on the browser
No this one should be sending something, what should I use tofind the network transaction?
xarragon
There is an application called "Wireshark" that works on Linux, Windows and Mac that captures network traffic.
But if the application uses https/encryption it won't help you much.
MrKeuner
with a high learning curve... But thanks so much for the insight
xarragon
MrKeuner: Nah, it's pretty easy. It has a GUI and everything.
I do think that that you CAN communicate with the flash player via javascript to some degree though.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/156/tn_15683.html
MrKeuner
xarragon, thank you
xarragon
Wouldn't surprise me if it is a very limited API though. They probably don't want you to di*k around too much.
One alternative is to reverse-engineer the flash object and html page and then make a flash applet of your own using flex3 or something.
There are plenty of free/open source swf tools to decompile etc.
MrKeuner
xarragon, pardon my nerdness level but reverse engineering, meaning open it in flash designer if it is not locked?
oh
xarragon
Adobe have debug versions of the flash player available: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
Draconis
has anyone had an issue with firefox constantly saying "Stopped" in the status bar after clicking a link?
Froolap
MrKeuner: Does that mean I won't be able to play yahoo's eucher in linux?
MrKeuner
Froolap, no it might mean that you have to uninstall your version of Java VM and install Sun's version of it
I am assuming that you have a non-sun version of Java VM
xarragon
MrKeuner: I've used http://osflash.org/swf_tools to take swf's apart earlier, and I figure you can use http://osflash.org/flasm to decompile the actionscript files.
MrKeuner
xarragon, thank you I'll check that, i am trying to find the GET/POST thing flash object is sending out at the moment
xarragon
And there is also a complete disassembler it seems: http://www.nowrap.de/flare.html
MrKeuner: Yeah, that's alot easier if possible.
Well, good luck with your endeaveor.

Draconis
any ideas guys?
MrKeuner
xarragon, thanks alot. GET/POST thing must work unless they check for referrer, am I correct?
xarragon
MrKeuner: Well, I've used the "curl" utility to get me past both referer and cookie-based authentications.
MrKeuner: so yeah, it should work.
Froolap
Whatever came with fedora12
MrKeuner
Froolap, I have Ubuntu, Ubuntu does not come with sun's...
try about:config
xarragon
MrKeuner: IF they use referer all you have to do is to add a line of text to the HTTP request: "Referer: blahblah\r\n", so it's not hard to simulate. I'd use curl or perl, python, ruby etc.
MrKeuner
Froolap, sorry about:plugins
Froolap
ty
xarragon
MrKeuner: they might use "one-time tickets", in which case you'd need to simulate the GET request that retrieves the SWF file from the server and extract the key/ticket id from it, then send them in the get/post/put request.
Still, that's exactly what CURL was made for.
MrKeuner
xarragon, thanks again, i'll have to continue, later
i think I found the GET code but server gives me page not foud error, when i try it on the browser when I am logged in
thanks again.bye

I cannot install Live HTTP headers add-on for FireFox since it works only with < 3.6 versions. Damn, are they morons or what. What the fuk this crappy FireFox has updated itself so i cannot use add-on to it. What should i do now? Downgrade? I'll kill them.
The most sh*ty browser i ever saw. Even IE 6 is better. At least it does not lag like FF.
auscompgeek
why are you using Minefield?
jv
Nirvanko: you could try to use the nightly tester tools addon
Nirvanko: which allow you to override compatibility, use with caution tho
auscompgeek
Nirvanko: To disable extension compatibility checking, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/15003 or: about:config -> right-click in page -> new -> boolean -> extensions.checkCompatibility -> false. For >=3.6, see http://tinyurl.com/y8quwpq
:)
Nirvanko
Really? :)
I'll try
auscompgeek
Firefox never updates to Minefield
Nirvanko
Listen, i don't know how to solve this problem. One guy told to me that i should patch install.rdf to make this add-on working. I've followed your link but the problem still exists. I downloded FF 3.5 and said to him: don't make your f* upgrades anymore. Do you understand? He said: yes.
Cork

Too late
I've installed 3.5. See guys how downgrades occur.

Pip
Hello, flash plugin doesn't give me feature setting window on firefox, why ?
kbrosnan
Pip: flashblock, adblock, noscript, some other extension
Pip: http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
Pip
does it have anything to do with video card driver ?
kbrosnan
Pip: i would eliminate extension related issues (running firefox in safe mode) before looking into system level things that could cause the problem

hi
is FF known to have some form bugs ?
I have a form with 2 text inputs, one visible, the other inside a hidden div
when I focus the first, enter text and press enter, the form does not get submitted
if I remove the second one, fill the first and press enter, everything works fine
this bug is not present with safari
FF version 3.5.5 Mac
megaTherion
anyone know why Firefox refuses to safe my printer settings?
its ver 3.5.3
I just have to do the settings each time, it works then but its really annyoing

HELP: helo.. problem with local fonts.. firefox displays the actual page 'correctly' for few seconds and then it all turns to square boxes.. i couldn't find a solution in search engines.. someone pl pl pl help me..
Cork[home]
balusss: link?
it sounds like its a broken downloadable font
balusss
Cork: lamp19.wordpress.com that has some regional fonts which are displayed as square boxes for me..
while the page is loading, they are shown properly, but once the loading is complete, it all turns to square boxes Cork.
Safari, Opera display the same page fine.
Cork[home]
the only thing i can find is that it might be the fonts used => "Helvetica Neue",Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif
can't really find anything else that might cause it
SixThreeOh
Does firefox block iframes as popups?
(ever)
balusss
Cork: so what settings shall i have to change for a proper display? is that possible? i checked firefox in -safemode too and it is the same problem there even..
Cork[home]
balusss: this is something with your system
SixThreeOh: what do you mean wiht "as popups"?
SixThreeOh
"Firefox prevented this site from opening a popup window"
for an iframe with name="mriframe" and a form with target="mriframe" and with javascripts .submit() to send the form to the iframe
With the parent a www.myadultsite.com and a child as payment.myadultsite.com
I am wondering why it thinks that is a popup window
Cork[home]
SixThreeOh: there most be something more there
SixThreeOh
I don't think so, but unfortunately firefox gives no information when it blocks stuff
I'll see if firebug has anything to report
Cork[home]
those block is for window.open, not src on an iframe
SixThreeOh
0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)
Cork[home]
*those blockers
SixThreeOh: you have to actually buy anything to see this?
or can it be seen with out an account?
SixThreeOh
it's the pdt for paypal
it needs post (some idiot set up this site using drupal leaving me to jump through hoops)
Cork[home]
SixThreeOh: what i mean, is what do i need to do to see it?
SixThreeOh
use java script to submit() a form to an iframe on a different sub domain
Cork[home]
SixThreeOh: on the page >_>
-_-'
SixThreeOh
using method=post
nothing
it automatically callssubmit()
Cork[home]
SixThreeOh: WHERE T_T
SixThreeOh
the error is in firebug, the popup notice is at the top of the page, the iframe is in the middle, the form is hidden and redirects post and get variables, the script is just <script> submit()</script>
I'll debug the script to make sure it is definitely failing on submit
yup it seems to be that
That needs to be reported as a bug I think
ah ha it is ignoring target for submit

Hi, I just installed windows 7 and firefox. I wish to import my data from my old profile, but I know that it might be a bit corrupted because when trying to load firefox it took 5 to 10 secons to open. Also bookmark did not work very well. How would I best import my bookmarks?

hey can I adjust the width of paragraphs with some add-on? like right-click a paragraph that spans the whole width of the browser window and have it become less wide and more readable
(I don't want to make my browser window smaller for many reasons)
Cork[home]
aoupi: you could change the css for the page with firebug or dom inspector
aoupi
mm that's what I'm doing now
but it's a bit of a hassle
Cork[home]
there is an extension that let you split the window in many small frames
but thats about it
joeytwiddle
i tried to write a bookmarklet that would detected and 'fix' such css
but it didn't work very well
let me know if you find something ;)
Cork[home]
aoupi: btw stylus or greasemonkey would do that if you want to do it on the same page over and over again
*stylish
aoupi
Cork[home]: ok, I'll keep that in mind
Cork[home]
or this might be worth a try https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11759
(haven't ever used it)
btw bt over and over again, i meant each time you visit the site

hi room
is 6 min 20 seconds a reasonable compile time for compiling firefox from scratch?
I think I'd likely to better without using distcc
but my main desktop woudlnt maintain 80+% idle the entire time then

HI. I had to reinstall my whole linux system due to a HD error. I have all my home files stored in a thumb drive. Is the a way I can get my previous firefox bookmarks form that backup ?
Cork[home]
caotic: sure
~/.mozilla/firefox
you'll have your firefox profile in there
normally <hash>.default
in that folder you'll have a file places.sqlite, just copy that file to your current firefox profile
and you should have your bookmarks
make sure you have firefox closed while you do this
caotic
Cork[home]: thanks you are a life saver :D
