I've got this error http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/The+bookmarks+and+history+system+will+not+be+functional
Followed the steps but the optional ones
(couldn't export)
But I don't get my bookmarks back..
kbrosnan
Rccenter: anything in your bookmarksbackup folder in your profile?
Rccenter
kbrosnan: yes, but FF didn't load it
Solved it by renaming again
places.sqlite -> places.sqlite(2) -> restart -> places.sqlite

does this mean i have D2D? Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.3a1pre) Gecko/20091130 Minefield/3.7a1pre
its hard to tell by the blog postings ive seen
SultansElephant
im a linux user and sick of noscript
lol
someone tell me i dont need it
auscompgeek
unless you are concerned about privacy and security, no :)
roguedaemon
why is firefox falsely identifying README files and others as binary and not allowing us to view them?
plain ASCII text files with no extention
its pretty annoying
Raydiation
hi are there any additional css3 features that are supported?
in 3.6
kbrosnan
Raydiation: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Firefox_3.6_for_developers

shevy
if i type an URL, i normally get a dropdown list
but now when i type anything, i get nothing at all
AwaDoV
check the privacy
you cancel
save visited pages
i think so
but i'm not sure
shevy
works now again
thanks AwaDoV
AwaDoV
does it work ?
or without checking Privacy
shevy
actually i tried to fiddle around with some stuff
typehead in about:config
then i got fed up, removed .mozilla and started again. And now it works :>
it's strange that losing a feature like the dropdown list has such a big impact on my browsing behaviour
i am not even sure what setting was the culprit
the .mozilla dir was already there before i started firefox for the first time
AwaDoV
good
have a nice time
shevy
k thanks for your help
see you guys
AwaDoV
bye

Is anyone here able to play eucher on yahoo.com?
DarwinSurvivor
"The information you have entered is to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a third party." box will NOT go away!
every time I hit "continue" it goes back to the original page, then I hit "submit" again and the same bloody thing happens
can't even google anything!
address bar doesn't work either
basically, firefox just became 100% useless :(
i would submit a bug report, but i can't even get to the bug report page...
auscompgeek
DarwinSurvivor: Firefox's own Safe Mode (and in other supported Mozilla applications) is a good way to see if an extension, theme or ui customizations (localstore.rdf) are causing a problem. See http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode or http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
DarwinSurvivor
works fine in safe-mod (without disabling anything for that matter)....
the only addon i've added in the past month is the full-screen-video thing for html5
wait.... i didn't check "dissable extensions" but my extensions are all gone.... :/
auscompgeek
just click the continue button or whatever pops up...
you'd expect me to know this stuff :P
DarwinSurvivor
when i click the "continue" button, the dialog closes, but it doesn't continue to the next page
it works in safe mode, but not in normal mode
i disabled the only addon i've installed in the past month, and haven't seen any get updated in quite a while
no errors in console (other than my Q-Dark theme going stupid, but ALL my apps do that)
auscompgeek
what addon?
DarwinSurvivor
"Full Screen Video"
it adds a context item when right-clicking html5 video objects
hmm, scrollwheel and address bar doen't work either
auscompgeek
you don't need that addon when we release 3.6 :)
DarwinSurvivor
yeah, looking forward to that release
any ideas on my current problem though? :(
http://pastebin.com/d6cdeea62
the results of me launching firefox, trying to google "test" twice, then closing it
auscompgeek
and I just closed Minefield :(
DarwinSurvivor
note that nothing was printed while or after trying to google something (all text is from the loading process)
closed it?

auscompgeek
I closed Firefox...
I don't want to have to open it again!
DarwinSurvivor
ah
hmm, every time i launch firefox, it says that the previous session crashed (offers to recover it)
Argafal
DarwinSurvivor: do you quit it properly?
or just shutdown your machine?
auscompgeek
corrupt files...
DarwinSurvivor
hit the "X" in the top-right corner
Argafal
ok
did you try it with a new profile to see whether something is messed up in yours?
i'd give that a shot, just to narrow it down
auscompgeek
it's a corrupt file in the profile :)
DarwinSurvivor
i've never worked with profiles
if it's the previous session-save that messed up, can I just delete it (nothing important in the session)
auscompgeek
sure
DarwinSurvivor
how do i do that?
auscompgeek
sessionstore.js
;)
DarwinSurvivor
...?
auscompgeek
that's the file
delete it
DarwinSurvivor
ok, that got rid of the session-restore thing, but the bug is still there
how do i create a new session?
auscompgeek
delete all the sessionstore-*.js files there too :)
if that doesn't work, check for a session.rdf file :)
DarwinSurvivor
there was only the one
auscompgeek
was Firefox open at the time?
DarwinSurvivor
no
auscompgeek
>.>
DarwinSurvivor
oops, I meant "how do i create a new PROFILE?" :P
Cork
firefox -CreateProfile <name> :)
or just firefox -ProfileManager
DarwinSurvivor
ok, just used "-ProfileManager" to create a test one
bug is not present in the test profile
Cork
you get a post warning on each page load was it?
DarwinSurvivor
every time i hit "submit" on google
scrollwheel also doesn't work, nor do hotkeys (F4 for sidebar, etc)
auscompgeek
...
I have to go now...
Cork: take over :)
Cork
DarwinSurvivor: did you test this in safe mode?
DarwinSurvivor
the bug is not present in safe-mode or with the new profile i created
Cork
ok, have you tried disabling all your extensions and trying in normal mode?
DarwinSurvivor
i'm just creating a new profile
Cork
so you don't want to try and fix it?
DarwinSurvivor
my history is un-important, all my bookmarks/passwords are backed up on xmarks
not really
Cork
ok
just so i know :)
DarwinSurvivor
ubiquity was a bit messed up in my old profile anyways (added some weird script at some point and couldn't figure out which one)
the only thing i'm going to lose is my flashblock "allow" list at this point (not a big deal at all)
just finished installing all my extensions
S.O.B. new profile is doing it now too!!!
Cork
did you install any extensions?
DarwinSurvivor
ok, definitely not a corrupted profile :(
i didn't install any extension in the new profile that hasn't already been in the old on for over a month
Cork
i'm quite sure its caused by extensions
exactly :)
i think its one of them acting up
DarwinSurvivor
ok, i dissable all the extensions and it went away
time for the 50/50 test :(
hmm, it seems to be ubiquity
yep, definitely ubiquity (enable/disable tested it 3 times)
the scary part is when I enable it, it starts getting buggy before I even restart the browser! :@
nope, wait
dammit, it's just randomly working and not working :<
ok, just cleaned out some old extension i don't use any more
re-enabled ubiquity
now it's working (very strange)
i'll come back if it stops working again...
avenir
hello everybody. is there any program that can view and edit firefox bookmarks without launching firefox? (-:
preferrably for linux
Daenyth
kbrosnan: I figured out a way to do what I was asking the other day (get FF tabs to another computer). kill firefox after I ssh in, then scp the session info and start ff on the client, restoring session. Just have to figure out the right files now :)
_Joda_
can i instruct firefox to make .part files but only create the actual files when the download is finished ?
Peng
I doubt it.
Daenyth
You'd probably need to patch it
or use a download manager that does that, perhaps
_Joda_
there no hidden config option ?
Peng
I doubt it. That's such a strange and minor thing.
Daenyth
Hmm
What file is the session restore data stored in, and could it be transferred between profiles without breaking anything?
Peng
Daenyth: 1.) sessionstore.js or sessionstore.json 2.) Sure.
Daenyth: Though killing Firefox sounds like a bad idea...
Daenyth
For what reasons?
data loss?
Peng
Daenyth: I don't know how cleanly it would be shut down.
Daenyth
well, I could also close it and say "save my tabs", but I really like the session restore view where you can select individual tabs to restore, as I don't want all of them, only some
Is there a setting whereby I can make a non-crash session restore give me that menu?
Peng
Ah. No idea, sorry. :P
Daenyth

Josh__
hi
does anyone know where is the cookies.txt?
Peng
Josh__: Your profile.
Josh__: And nowadays it's cookies.sqlite.
Josh__
no more cookies.txt?
Peng
Josh__: :D
Josh__
how do I edit a sqlite?
Peng
Josh__: With something that understands SQLite... The SQLite command line app, for example, or there's a Firefox extension.
Josh__
ok thanks Peng

aresnick
Hi! I was wondering: is it possible to protect cookies in such a way that I can set Firefox to clean out all cookies on exit _except_ for those from a whitelist?
tulcod
can i make firefox /not/ open the "downloads" window when a new download is started?
Spami|Thug

Hello, I'm trying to export my bookmarks from ff 3.0.11 however when I try, the bookmarks.html file appears and then dispears from where ever I save it. It doesn't go to the recycling bin it just dispears. How can I save my bookmarks?
alistrone
(Action) is away: LOL BRB
nicetry
Please help, I cannot export my bookmarks
rigel
hi, i'm using firefox on ubuntu karmic, and i keep getting redirected to my school's ezproxy site when i go to different sites. ff is set to use system-wide proxy settings, but my computer's network proxy settings are disabled. this doesnt happen in epiphany either, so it's specific to FF. where do i find the file or settings that determine this behavior?
mconnor
rigel: you're using system, or auto-detect?
rigel
mconnor: system
mconnor
rigel: weird... try explicitly setting no proxy?
rigel
mconnor: tried that. still does it.
and i'm not sure where to go to find out what's wrong
samyak
how do I edit my files ( local files ) in Firefox, basically I am thinking of using FF wherever possible, e.g No FileZilla or gFTP by using FireFTP, same way I am looking for replacement for gedit and notepad
do we have a separate channel for addons ?
satdav
not yet
is there a issue with them
samyak
satdav, are asking to me ?
satdav
what is theyes
I was replying back to you
goto #firefox addons
sorry
samyak
what is the channel name ?
mconnor
rigel: it's weird that other browsers are bypassing, since many proxies are non-optional, especially on school networks
