hey... who here ?
jhaig
How do I uninstall an add-on in Firefox 3.0? From the Add-On dialog box I can disable it, but I want to uninstall it to force reinstalling.
xanax`
you want to "uninstall it ... to force reinstalling it" ? oO
can't you just uninstall it, restart firefox, then reinstall the add-on ?
jhaig
There is no option to uninstall, only disable.
xanax`
what addon is it ?
jhaig
VMware remote console plug-in.
xanax`
maybe it was installed inside Windows, like any other software.. Have you tried to uninstall it this way ? Add or Remove programs ?
jhaig
But all the plugins are the same - only a disable button.
I'm on Linux
xanax`
oh. hmm
then "apt-get remove vmware" :-)
or something like that

xangua
jhaig: is that a plugin or an addon¿
jhaig
It is in the 'Add-ons' dialog under 'Plugins'. What does that make it?
Ah, I've just seen it under 'Extensions' as well and there is an 'uninstall' button there.

Tatsh
jhaig you have to uninstall vmware
it could also be a so file in your profile
but unlikely
more likely a so file in the plugins directories firefox scans through
jhaig
vmware isn't on this machine, only the console plugin. I managed to uninstall and reinstall and it didn't fix the problem I was having but I have found a (not ideal) workaround.
(Action) mutters a few choice swear words in the direction of vmware.

hello.. I'm having trouble with firebug
I don't see anything on the debugger.. I can "highlight" text, but all those texts are white. I'm on ubuntu 9.10, firefox 3.5
Sorinello
hello. does anyone an idea ifthere is a plugin that downloads the instlaled extensions to the local drive. I mean the installers
cos If i reinstall a lot, I'ld like to have the installers
cos i use a lot of addons, and i can;t remember them all
Gh3rssp
Hello! Whats new?
(Action) needs some new addons... He's running low
xangua
¿¿
Gh3rssp
xangua: ??
ignore me... I'm just rambling again
Raccoon
q. why doesn't mozilla foundation run a smear campaign against g-chrome?
so we can have our circa 1998 browser wars again
Gh3rssp
Raccoon: because google and mozilla are still partnered...
afaik.
Raccoon
"Firefox - We dont track every page you visit and porn banner you click."
Gh3rssp
?
Raccoon
"Firefox - No central database on your browsing habbits."
what '?'? Chrome naturally comes with "google toolbar" installed at its core.
Gh3rssp
yeah...
its made by google
Raccoon
do you think the public at large knows this?
it's Mozilla's responsibility to inform. Imagine of Internet Explorer attempted such a thing only 10 years ago.
there'd be a DoJ investigation
I don't want to see Firefox become "That Linux Browser" because some new upstart decides to plug its own browser.

Gh3rssp
firefox /is/ a linux browser, the main one
Raccoon
indeed, yes.
And it [was]* a very popular Windows browser
mconnor
was?
Gh3rssp
still is
Raccoon
Mozilla isn't making any motion to thwart this.
mconnor
to thwart what?
Raccoon
I use astrisks from 2020, when Firefox is a smoldering remnant of Internet history
Gh3rssp
Raccoon: in europe, and some other places firefox is nearing 50% market share
Raccoon
Thwart Google Chrome's gaining ground
Google Chrome is sporting the slogan "Faster", implying that Firefox is slow. Which it has been remarkably slow in Windows
Gh3rssp
mconnor: that's right, right? (What i just said)
Raccoon
I think Firefox should sport the slogan "Secure", and "Private".
mconnor
Gh3rssp: yep
Gh3rssp
ah. k
Raccoon: and thats over all the others, not just IE... Firefox about 50%, IE, chrome, opera, safari combined, just under 50%
Raccoon
"Firefox - The browser without a Big Brother."
Gh3rssp, i know. I said that Chrome is 'gaining' ground. It is.
Don't wait around for your market share to drop.
Gh3rssp
if you say so...
Raccoon
ok. sources you want.
bbiab with user-agent statistics
Gh3rssp
worldwide: 3 Firefox 3.5 18.74%
7 Chrome 3.0 3.90%
Raccoon
Gh3rssp: Browser Law dictates that Internet Explorer users simply use Internet Explorer because it came already installed. This means that 3.9% of Chrome users are former Firefox users.
mconnor: that's right, right? (What i just said)
mconnor
no
Raccoon
grr.
Gh3rssp
mconnor: btw, i'm tanner from moznet
mconnor
you can't really make sweeping generalizations
oh hey
I mean, IE's market share is not static
chrome is getting some people from Firefox, sure. but assuming it's all from us (and not Safari or IE or whoever) is really ignoring IE's consistent loss of market share
Gh3rssp
mconnor: you have no idea who i am, do you? :P
mconnor
Gh3rssp: sure I do
Raccoon
Chrome uses the slogan "Faster". Which of these browsers has the unfortunate reputation of being "Slow"? Internet Explorer? Firefox? Opera? Chrome? Other?
Gh3rssp
oh
(Action) isn't too well known over there...
mconnor
just because I'm a superlurker most of the time doesn't mean I don't know what's what
:)
Peng
Raccoon: If you spend much time working Mozilla support, you'd think the answer was "Firefox". ;-P
Gh3rssp
heh
mconnor
anyway
Raccoon
Peng, this is why Chrome chose that slogan.
mconnor
yes, Chrome is a competitor
Gh3rssp
(Action) does sumo.
mconnor
yes, we're working on keeping pace on perf
Raccoon
And we've done nothing to counter that claim, or make one of our own.
mconnor
I don't think that's true, but in some key benchmarks, they are faster
that is their defining characteristic
Raccoon: I think you want us to do something that would be out of character, but it's late and I don't really feel like debating our competitive strategy
Raccoon
I just want to see Firefox make SOME marketing motion. Chrome is the only browser you hear anything new about.
Gh3rssp
mconnor: how late it it over there? 10:15?
mconnor
yeah
but I flew back from Cali today
Gh3rssp
ooh
Raccoon
And honestly, I'm not a big fan of my browser sending TCP packets to datastore.gogle.com every time I navigate to a new page.
mconnor
so I'm tired and full of blah
Gh3rssp
mv?
mconnor
Gh3rssp: earlier in the week, was in SF for Thanksgiving
Gh3rssp
ah
i see.
Raccoon
I think if Firefox were to present this fact, Chrome would have to seriously rethink its privacy policy or go out of business.
mconnor
Raccoon: I think you're assuming people care that much about their privacy
Raccoon
does your dad still think cookies are evil?
mconnor
my dad doesn't know, or give a sh*t, what cookies are
Raccoon
well, I know that cookie folklore alone is what put ZoneAlarm at its current standing
people didn't see the need or want for a software firewall until they started talking about 'protecting against cookies'
Gh3rssp
(Action) holds his cookie jar, with a golf club in his hand
mconnor
ok, battery dying, bbl, maybe
Gh3rssp

anyone explain that? 'To install 1-Click YouTube Video Download and thousands of other Firefox add-ons, get Firefox, a free and open web browser from Mozilla. To learn more about Firefox and how it can make your internet experience better, click the button below.'
firefox 3.0.9 archlinux.
Peng
acidchild: Huh. Maybe you're using a spoofed user-agent?
acidchild: What does "about:" say your user-agent is?
acidchild
oh, your very clever. thank you
Peng
acidchild: Also, 3.0.9 is rather old. I hope Arch is backporting security fixes. If you're using Mozilla's binaries, you should update!
acidchild
indeed

After installing a few themes, firefox opens all the links in a new tab even if the new window as fixed dimensions, how can I change this behaviour?
auscompgeek
gianiaz have a look at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.link.open_external
gianiaz
auscompgeek,
I was on that page
the problem is that the blue note
seems to be ignored by this profile
ops
auscompgeek
browser.link.open_external?
gianiaz
sorry
take a look here:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window+-+Tabs+panel?style_mode=inproduct
If you have chosen to open pages in new tabs, Firefox will ignore this optionpreference and will open a new window from a link if the page author specified that the new window should have a specific size, because some pages can only be displayed correctly at a specific size.
On my profile Firefox doen't ignore the setting
and if you use editors like tinymce if you want to add an image opens a popup that is very small.
with this problem the popup is opened in a new tab and the window is resized
it's very annoying
but I don't want to open all the links in a new window
I've tried with a new profile and the behaviour is correct,
but I don't want to reinstall all the extensions ecc.. then I'm wondering if there's an option in about:config to look at
found!! :-)
I've tried a theme called chromifox, that also installed an extension
sh*t
:-P
aisbaa
hi, I have a little problem, firefox does not start (on linux 32)
auscompgeek
aisbaa tried in safe mode?
aisbaa
strace gave strage line: access("/home/aistis/xulrunner/libxpcom.so", R_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
how I should start ff in safe mode ?
auscompgeek
firefox -safe-mode
aisbaa
p.s. I pretty sure that xulrunner should not be in my home directory
safe mode goes the same way, looks for /home/aistis/xulrunner/libxpcom.so

Peng
Sorinello: In the time you've spent waiting for an answer, you could've done it manually. :P
(Action) saves copies of XPIs at install time.
