is there any way to lengthen ff's webpage loading timeout? It's timing out all the time but it would be better if it was like IRC, more lenient on timeout after request of information
robgleeson
can i turn off firefox caching?
Peng
No.
robgleeson
what about a keybinding to force firefox not to read from cache?
problem is, i have to delete the cache myself everytime and its annoying
Peng
robgleeson: Do Ctrl+Shift+R (or Ctrl+F5 or Shift+F5 or something) to refresh without caching.
robgleeson
Peng: thanks

I'm trying to get userContent.css set up to change the default color of input boxes. I'm using: input { background: #ff0000 }, but google.com still is still colored with the native color. suggestions?
(also, is there any way to get firefox to respond to a userContent.css change without restarting?)
the problem i'm having is that i have a light-text-on-dark-bg theme, so whenever a website sets one but not the other, their input boxes become virtually unusable.
xangua
atrus: without restarting use 'stilish' addon
you can also find more in http://userstyles.org/

atrus
so, what i'm doing works for some pages, but not google, for some reason. even with !important.
what i really want to do is turn off native theming for form elements.
IRWolfie-
are sockets in firefox not completely non-blocking? I find during bad connectivity firefox tends to freeze up as connections are made. (3.5.5)
Digicrime
hello
bye
iKernel
Whenever I play a video with those embedded media websites and then navigate away from the page, firefox freezes up. Seems like it's probably a pretty common problem, any help?
racecar56
how do i get rid of username form drop-downs? i can't get rid of mine :( i even cleared *everything*. I'm using Firefox 3.5.5
luux
hi
where does firefox store it's current cache of ALL pages opened?
thanks
is it possible to create an offline tabs?
auscompgeek
in the memory and the disk cache? depends on the OS :)
luux
linux
auscompgeek
what OS?
luux
how to download or cache ALL tabs?
auscompgeek
Cork ping
luux
to view latter offline?
what?
auscompgeek
I wasn't talking to you luux
Cork
luux: what distro?
luux
gentoo.
Cork
not sure if they moved the profile folder
luux
also... when I right click on tabs I can't save all of the at once.
where's at?
Cork
but you my check ~/.mozilla/firefox/<random number>.default/cache
auscompgeek
Cork I think you have Linux and Windows muddled up...
Cork
*Cache

luux
mm.. no, that's not practical. Is it possible to save ALL tabs for later view them offline?
Cork
auscompgeek: linux saved the cache in the normal profile
*saves
ah
auscompgeek
use wget.
Cork
luux: setting firefox to offline mode?
export the page?
luux
how+
auscompgeek
all tabs Cork
Cork
well the offline mode is file > work offline
auscompgeek
Cork can't read, so don't be too harsh on him/her.
luux
wait. let's say I open a ff session I open any number above 1 tabs. Is there a way to save all that stuff at once?
Cork
not that i know of
not save, as export it out of the cache
auscompgeek
actually save it to disk so that you can send it to your mate or something?
Cork
you could prob do something with wget and flasgot
luux
I tried something that didn't work. move a tab from a X forwarded ff to a local ff. The local doesn't take it.
Cork
firefox can't move tabs between processes
yet at least :)
luux
:(
why? is just html?
and I have same ff version on both boxes.
Cork
when you drag drop a tab, its much much more then html
auscompgeek
*than
luux
well, pics, css. Those are flat files.
Cork
its history, image cache, states of content, scroll position, javascript states, dom
luux
so?
Cork
luux: but flashgot has an all tabs function
luux
is from ff to ff.
Cork
you can pipe it through wget, and i think you might get something working
luux
oO
Cork
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/220 <-- flashgot
luux
flashgot is shaddy
Cork
wget exists in your repository
luux
is it open source?
Cork
ya
luux
yes I do have wget.
Cork
all cross os extensions i know of are open source
those that are closed are windows only
luux
can I use wget with an exported ff bookmarks file?
auscompgeek
yeah
Cork
recursive ya
luux
ah... that might be a solution.
Cork
if you export as html it will be able
luux
nyc
lol, wrong chan
Cork
auscompgeek: was it this you pinged me for? :)
auscompgeek
yeah :)
luux
k thanks
Cork
good luck
luux
forget about that, i'll try set up a proxy
auscompgeek
:S
luux
yes for real
auscompgeek
O_o
luux
the thing the box which is running ff is tight on RAM, running off NFS, without a hardrive.
and from a LiveCD.
so I am tired of being restricted on the amount of tabs I can have opened any given time.
auscompgeek
luux you could try using http://kb.mozillazine.org/Config.trim_on_minimize, but you'll have to set it manually everytime you boot your computer...
kbrosnan
that pref is windows only
luux
:(
auscompgeek
oh...
jjmartin
what is the best mouse gesture addon that works in the current version of ff?
auscompgeek
you can try https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/39
I think...
:P
jjmartin
does not work
why cant firefox come with built in feature that opera has had for years
auscompgeek
try https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12
jjmartin
an other version would work with the new ff?
auscompgeek
why don't you search for one yourself?
jjmartin
b/c i hate firefox
auscompgeek
it's easy to search for one :)
Mentifisto
is there any way to lengthen ff's webpage loading timeout? It's timing out all the time but it would be better if it was like IRC, more lenient on timeout after request of information
jjmartin
is there an official ff dev forum that I can go complain about ff?
auscompgeek
development forum!? :S
Peng
jjmartin: You're a cheerful one. :P
jjmartin
developers forum. project leaders
Peng, ff is hailed as the best browser ever but why does it lack the standard feature that come with opera? no built in ad blocking, mouse gestures, download manager, bittorrent client, irc, mail, a good rss reader,
why did i have to change a setting to enable the backspace button to work?
Peng
Heh.
jjmartin
all ff is, is just a skeleton browser that can be extended. stop calling it so good because it is not.
open source and addons are the only good things about it
also no web page thumbnail previews
slow at loading large images and takes up lots of ram
couldnt render svg's when opera could
Peng
jjmartin: The Backspace button did work; it just didn't do what you wanted. Apparently it was for consistency with other Linux applications.
jjmartin
i had the issue on windows back in 2004 and about a year ago too on linux
i find that rather odd when it is the adopted standard for mainstream browsers
also cant edit or make new keyboard short cuts in ff without an addon. opera lets you do that for years
Peng
jjmartin: Apparently it was not the adopted standard in GNOME.
jjmartin
well in Nautilus 2.28.1 backspace goes back
idk about older versions
Peng
Not in Epiphany, though.
(According to its website, anyway.)
jjmartin
is that build on webkit or mozzila?
Peng
Gecko (Mozilla), IIRC.
jjmartin
and the addon update system is bad.
so you can tell i really hate firefox
Peng
So...why are you using it?
Why are you here?
If Opera fits you better, more power to you.
jjmartin
1. cuz itz da bestest thing EVAR 2. to get the dumb mouse gestures to work
yes i like opera more but some ff addons i use would be nice to have
Peng
Ah.
jjmartin
i honestly dont understand wth the devs were thinking when making ff
the older version works. thanks
auscompgeek
card.freenode.net disconnected again!?!?!?
Peng
How do we know it was card?
auscompgeek
Cork[home] disconnected :)
Peng
How do we know Cork[home] is on card?
auscompgeek
b/c we said so on #freenode :)
Cork[home] left during the last netsplit as well...
now, let's take this to #freenode :)
Peng
auscompgeek: Ah, ok
auscompgeek
;)
Peng
auscompgeek: I'm always nervous about talking in #freenode. I guess #oftc has influenced me.
auscompgeek
then let's go to #defocus :P
stix
Hi guys. If I paste this url in the address-bar it works fine, but if I link to it on a html-page it doesn't: file:\\\\\fileserver\novellmain\DOCS\BILLET\Special Deals list\SPCLDEALS.xls
what's wrong?
auscompgeek
?
Peng
Are web pages allowed to link to file:// URLs?
Cork
nope
stix
so how can I allow it?
auscompgeek
not unless if you have NoScript and you allow it... :P
Cork
security restrictions will block all references to file://, it the html file isn't located in the same path
stix: you can disable the check in about:config
stix
noscript, is that an addon?
Cork
ya
auscompgeek
yeah...
selectively disables JS
stix
okay, what it is called?
auscompgeek
NoScript
stix
no such thing when I use the filter
Cork
auscompgeek
oh, you want the option :P
Peng
Oh, nice.
stix
Cork, I looked at that page, and it seems outdated
auscompgeek
it should still work...
Cork
Peng: i at least haven't seen a bug about removing the option
stix
Now I need to add something to two .js files?
This is crappy when I have to deploy firefox on 60 computers
Cork
stix: you need to change settings in the firefox profile
stix: you can do it with a default profile
auscompgeek
about:config
Cork
or that :)
auscompgeek
lol
stix
yes about:config - but where?
Cork
stix: create the keys
ex. "capability.policy.policynames"
the things you see in the prefs.js is the same thing shown in about:config
well, the changes at least
auscompgeek
:)
stix
this is NOT user-friendly
auscompgeek
it's meant to not be :)
stix
when I have made the changes can I then deploy a Firefox with all my settings and add-ons to other pc's?
auscompgeek
it's the Advanced tab of the Advanced tab :) :P
Cork
stix: if you can change the settings in there profile, ya
stix
and how about the add-ons?
auscompgeek
stix you can't use the Firefox name if you are going to distribute it though..
Cork
auscompgeek: if its internally in a company its fine
