hi, how can i launch firefox so that the flash app games 'interprets' my keyboard as a qwerty one? i'm on kubuntu 9.10
m-i-l-a-n
subito: the only sensible way i can think of to get this is add another keyboard layout in kde settings so you can switch with only one click in the taskbar
subito
m-i-l-a-n: the problem is that, even when i switch the layout, this doesn't change anything for the flash game i'm playing
m-i-l-a-n
not totally sure if i fully understood your question there ;) i get it: you have something different than qwerty but stupid flash games ofc. assume qwerty
i think the flash app does not care about your layout, it simply uses keys like w,a,s,d whereever they are on your keyboard
ignotus
hm I have dvorak but flash games unfortunately use dvorak
m-i-l-a-n
:)
nice to see another dvorak user :)
and if you switch the layout in software, does this affect the rest of the website and the browser/ i.e. location bar etc..?
because that should work instantanously
kind of strange that the flash app 'stays' in dvorak
subito
m-i-l-a-n: sorry i'm answering only now, yeah the layout change changes the behavior almost everywhere but just not in the flash game
m-i-l-a-n
strange
maybe you have to restart the browser or reload the site with that flash game, but i guess you already did that
subito
m-i-l-a-n: that's what i was thinking and then i thought i should launch firefox with a special command that's why i came here and did not test the first idea to just restart firefox
m-i-l-a-n: did not work

m-i-l-a-n
damn
i just did that 10 seconds worth of using google
maybe http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/unassigned-bugs/2008-August/002392.html
:P
"Flash games take the top one in that option menu no matter what, while everything else takes the one you selected with the layout switcher."
don't know if this is still the case since the post is over 1 year old
subito
m-i-l-a-n: so how do you fix it i didn't understand
oh yes just move us to the top ok
that worked thanks
time to sleep, see you

hi

In 3.5, I noticed when you try to save a file in a newly created folder, the folder isn't opened by default. this causes mistakes. In earlier versions, a newly created folder would automatically open. I wonder why firefox made a retro switch.
duli
firefox 3.5.5 is having a bad time trying to load a ssl website. How do I debug this?
inside0ut
any addon like xmarks that isn't awful?
Mike_lifeguard
How can I have Firefox associate irc:// links with a particular program?
inside0ut
xmarks would mess up my bookmarks, put copies of a bookmark in different folders.. firefox started using around 800mb less ram when i finally got rid of that junk

Hello :)
I had a question regarding Thunderbird.
I know this is the browser channel, but I could not find one for the mail client.
I wanted to know how to add a "default signature" which is displayed in all emails.
Peng
Zombie_Will: There's an option under the settings for each account.
Zombie_Will
hmmm ok
I have options open under one account
wonderful client btw
I do not see a signature option, in another section I see "attach this signature" which wants me to browse for a file...
I am guessing that somewhere is a little text box where I can place a signature, such as company info
Peng
Zombie_Will: Put your signature in a file, then give it the path to that file.
Zombie_Will
.txt file?
or make new msg, save as file?
Peng
Zombie_Will: .txt file

thank you, Peng
Peng

Zombie_Will
Are you a developer for mozilla?
just wondering :)
Peng
Zombie_Will: No, I'm not.
Zombie_Will
well thanks for the support :)

My friend's Firefox crashes around twice a week. Any reason for it?
auscompgeek
tell him to go to about:crashes and copy the links over
cryptic0
auscompgeek: any idea about my question above?
Peng
Firefox uses the OS filepicker, no? Can it even control that?
auscompgeek
cryptic0 sorry, I just joined...

auscompgeek
hm...
ThortheMighty
It's a toughie
His Quicktime was out of date though. Could be the root of the problem?
auscompgeek
he should update it nevertheless...

JoAnneThrax
Hi, everyone...
My firefox has just decided to have difficulty opening any folders on www.tvtropes.org pages. For example: this one: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeadlyEuphemism
It won't expand any of those "folders" on the page, or any of the things on the left column that should be un-collapsable (with the "plus" shaped things)
They all worked just fine until an hour ago, and I can't figure out what is different.
The information's all in the source for the page, but I don't know why I can't expand anything./
<li class='plus'> <a class='twikilink' href='http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AppliedPhlebotinum' title='http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AppliedPhlebotinum'>Applied Phlebotinum</a>
For example, that there won't expand. I'm not familiar with the "class" function...
kbrosnan
class is for css styles
JoAnneThrax
well...what would have broken css in my browser all of the sudden?
Here's another chunk of the source that's not expanding:
<p></p><div class="folderlabel" onclick="togglefolder('folder3');"> Live Action TV </div><div id="folder3" class="folder" isfolder="true" style="display:none;">
It's no clickable at the moment, but always has been before.
s/no/not
kbrosnan
tried ctrl + shift + r
JoAnneThrax
No, I haven't...what does that do?
kbrosnan
reloads the page ignoring the cache
JoAnneThrax
Ah. It's working again. Excellent.
Thank you.
Do you know why it was doing this? And will I have to ctrl-shift-r every page I've had in my session?
kbrosnan
no idea
Cork
JoAnneThrax: before you put your heard into trouble shoot, i get the same thing here
so its the page
JoAnneThrax
Really? I've been browsing TVTropes pages for weeks....
The problem just started.
Cork
same in ie8 and chrome 3
JoAnneThrax
Bizarre. Now it seems to be working on the other pages as well. Bizarre.
Well, thank you.
Cork
looks like they changed the design of the page or something
Zombie_Will
I have another question about Thunderbird.
I am almost done configuring it, great program.
However I use multiple outgoing mail servers
auscompgeek
irc.mozilla.org
Zombie_Will
hmmm ok
auscompgeek
did we have a netsplit?
Cork
has to be
auscompgeek
how long?
(Action) wonders how he can get a firefox cloak...
seems we have a HydraIRC user in the mist...
blwwar
hi
how do i run fireefox on top of other programs?
auscompgeek
always on top?
use external applications :P
blwwar
external applications?/
on the desktop
i want it to be on top of other programs
auscompgeek
like the Task Manager does by default?
blwwar
yes
auscompgeek
well, there's always AnVir Task Manager Free...
blwwar
the what?
doesnt firefox have a way to keep it on top of other programs on the desktop?
kbrosnan
no
blwwar
so whats a way to keep it on top
Cork
blwwar: http://www.actualtools.com or http://www.anvir.com/taskmanagerfree
blwwar
k thx
Cork awesome
thanks
but do i have to run this anvir all the time to keep the programs on top?
auscompgeek
it can also limit CPU usage of applications that use a lot of CPU :)
thom_logn
I have an odd problem under ubuntu with xmonad and firfox (not sure if xmonad is really part of the problem tho). The font used in the interface seems to default to like a 24 pt font or larger. How do you tell it to use a smaller font? I don't see it in the prefs?
kbrosnan
gui fonts are set at the os/wm level, if you want to force the font though http://kb.mozillazine.org/Pane_and_menu_fonts
thom_logn
thanks
where is userChrome.css supposed to live?
auscompgeek
in chrome/
thom_logn
~/chrome?
auscompgeek
~/.mozilla/firefox/chrome/
thom_logn
ah. mucho thanks
auscompgeek
thom_logn
okay, I was reading it but they mention the css file without saying where it lived
blwwar
auscompgeek ooh nice
thanks man
thom_logn
is it userChrome.css or is it UserChrome?
auscompgeek
userChrome.css
read the notice at the top of the article
thom_logn
LOL the correction was inconsistant in its capitalization too
auscompgeek
where?
thom_logn
The article capitalizes it correctly, then the correction says it's wrong. kinda confusing. Hmmm, restarted mozilla and it doesn't seem to be looking at my userChrome.css file
auscompgeek
you sure?
it isn't capitalised correctly in the heading...
thom_logn
the article link text is correct, and it links to a page UserChrome... anyway, sure it isn't showing up. double checking
~/.mozilla/firefox/userChrome.css
oops, meant ~/.mozilla/firefox/chrome/userChrome.css
auscompgeek
in the title if the actual article!!!
thom_logn
yeah, like I said, it's a really poor clarification
auscompgeek
it runs on MediaWiki, so not much we can do about it...
thom_logn
LOL Anyway, capitalization doesn't seem to be the issue
just trying to change the ui font globally, just pasted the first bit in. Hmmm, lets see if putting gibberish in generates an error
auscompgeek
you did put in the namespace line, right?
thom_logn
the article doesn't say anything about namespace???
auscompgeek
Cork what's the XUL namespace again?
Cork
you mean the there.is.only.xul?
auscompgeek
yeah
Cork
"@namespace url(
auscompgeek
you heard that thom_logn?
thom_logn
yeah, trying it
Cork
(Action) hits noscript over the head...
it likes blocking my company domain :<
thom_logn
arg, added namespace but it still doesn't pick up the change. if I put a syntax error in the file will mozilla report the error on the stderr on the term where I launch it or is it goign to go to another log file?
auscompgeek
did you put it at the top?
and there is the error console..
thom_logn
I just want to verify it is reading the file... um, I put it after two comment lines (plus 2 blank lines)
auscompgeek
that should be ok, as long as it's the first line of code after @imports...
thom_logn
after imports? are there any required imports???
auscompgeek
no
thom_logn
hmmm
auscompgeek
if there are, they should be the first lines of code...
so you have * { font-family: "Trebutchet MS", Tahoma } or something similar to that?
thom_logn
I copied the lines straigh out of the article
which is beginning to seem like a bad plan ;)
hmmm, I don't see any error messages on stderr or the console
auscompgeek
you have to look at the error console
Ctrl+Shift+ ... what was it?
thom_logn
okay, this is weird but might be a clue.... when I log in, it defaults the monitor to 800x600 resolution or something... if I launch firefox THEN xrandr to --size 1680x1050 the font is normal sized (smaller). If I change the resolution THEN launch firefox the UI font is huge like 24pt or something
auscompgeek
change the font-size then...
thom_logn
where???
in ff?
auscompgeek
in the userChrome.css :)
thom_logn
I think the xmonad people just said something usefule
apparently xmonad needs tweaking to deal with gnome-session-manager or some such. sounds like the problem, not a ff thing at all I'm guesing.
*sigh*
thanks for the help
auscompgeek
sure :)
thom_logn
it's frustrating that the whole linux experience is still so frustrating... I remember telling a friend in 1995 that I though linux would replace windows by 2000-2005.... arg
nokia
is firefox available as a nokia app? so that i can replace the crappy opera in it?
i have a nokia 5130
auscompgeek
err... there's Fennec...
