hello iam using now ff 3.5.5 and have a weird behavior in displaying pictures, i see when the pictures is loading i see how it will be grow. and when its loaded then it changes the color to black. i have investigated it and saw that the picture has bigger dimensions than it is appearing on the website. so i deleted my moz profile and created a new one, but unfortunately that isnt solving the problem. someone has a suggestion for me please?

One question I need and idea, what should I do, I want to import cookies from older ff 1.5 to ff 3.5, and I cant find the way, also febe which is supported by the ff 1.5 isnt compatible with febe which is supported by the ff 3.5, because its using the new type of json cookies, which means I cant use febe for this job
I tried to import cookies to ie and then to import cookies from ie to ff3.5 byt only few of cookies were transfered in this way, what should I do, is there some converter which could convert old cookies style into the new style which is used in firefox 3.5

cryton
because the server is serving it up with the incorrect mimetype i would guess
phretor

chrisf
phretor: is it?
phretor
chrisf: that was actually a question :)

chrisf
:D
it's definitely a quiet chan.

Hi all, Whenever I click a .desktop launcher of type=link, it opens the link in 'gedit'... how do I change this to Firefox??
I'm using Ubuntu
My preferred browser is already firefox
It used to open it in lynx (ugh) so I removed Lynx and now it opens in gedit

are these the functions possibly invoked by gecko when it interprets a web page? https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Interfaces

hi, since last few updates fonts in FF are not cool anymore ;-) now they look like under windows (i use linux). seems like antialiasing or hiting is off, where can i set it up?
chrisf
getxsick: suspect you broke it.
getxsick: subpixel rendering & font hinting is also better on windows than any other platform ive seen.
</troll>
getxsick
chrisf: maye, i just haven't seen nice AA on windows when i use this platform from tiem to time
chrisf
or did you want the "blurry-as-hell OSX / gnome-AA" effect?
getxsick
let me show you how it looks now

is there a way to have a <foo>+<enter> shortcut in the urlbar to open in a new window, in addition to alt-enter to open in a new tab?
ideally shift-enter or ctrl-enter
auscompgeek
did you try Shift+Enter?
cwillu_at_work
yes, that just opens www. + whatever I typed + .com
sorry, .net
auscompgeek
I thought that was Ctrl+Enter...

cwillu_at_work
ctrl-enter is .com
shift is .net
waste of a perfectly good modifier key :)
auscompgeek
tried Ctrl+Shift+Enter?
cwillu_at_work
.org
and alt + any of those does the same thing in a new tab

Peng uses IPv6?
that took a while...
Peng
auscompgeek: What took a while? Getting opped?
auscompgeek
yeah
Peng
auscompgeek: I failed to identify when I reconnected; I assume I couldn't access NickServ due to being split.
auscompgeek
or aren't you automatically opped?
oh...
Peng
auscompgeek: And yes, I use IPv6. It's just a tunnel, though, sadly.
auscompgeek
:(
Peng
Nice one, though!
Adds minimal latency, but still.

Peng
On the one hand, I get to show off my IPv6 IP. OTOH, I look like a loser who doesn't know how to operate a DNS server. :P
On the other other hand, I wonder why the DNS lookup failed?
auscompgeek
you own personal tunnel?
Peng
auscompgeek: ?
auscompgeek
that's your own tunnel?
Peng
If by "own personal tunnel" you mean "clicked the 'Tunnel me!' button on

hi
does anyone know if shiretoko support websockets?
manolo__
Hi to all. I'd like to "clean" my system from previous installations of Firefox. I found some directories, for example, related to firefox-3.0, firefox-3.6 and firefox-3.7.
Now I'm uscing firefox 3.5
auscompgeek
delete them :)
manolo__
Also, when trying to use programs that would like to open a web browser, they cannot open since they look for firefox-3.6
for example, (gnome-appearance-properties:3106): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to show 'http://art.gnome.org/themes/': Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/firefox-3.6" (No such file or directory)
I'm on Ubuntu 9.10
auscompgeek: ok, I'll trash those directories. Thank you. What about the other problem?
auscompgeek
I dunno, Google it :)
manolo__

auscompgeek
O_o
manolo__
ok... well, I'll search for a solution somewhere else. Thank you. ;)

DETHKORE

DarkMillian

Cork
DarkMillian: not if you don't tell us what you want
DarkMillian
xD sorry
i alwasy ask that and wait for an "yes" i will begin I'm using windows 7 RTM build 7600 i have 2 user 1 admin and 1 limited user
the thing is i installed firefox but my limited user have trouble with firefox security component Image:"
i tried everything i could think of and can't fix it
DETHKORE
also, why does another random program come up sometimes when i click something in firefox?
this is on windows, of course
Cork
DETHKORE: assosisions, firefox opens files it doesn't know in assosiated programs
DETHKORE
huh? i mean programs that have nothing to do with firefox
such as windows explorer
DarkMillian
virus?
Neoman
hi there
DETHKORE
is "virus?" a question, directed at me, in English?
Neoman
facebook works with safe mode and not with normal firefox?
Cork
DarkMillian: you sure the users have correct access to there app data folders?
read/write
DarkMillian
i belive so
DETHKORE
sometimes the program that pops up instead of firefox doing what i clicked on is actually another firefox window! isn't that funny?
Cork
cause after its installd, firefox don't need access to anything other then the %appdata%\roaming\mozilla folder
DarkMillian
i sê
Cork
well it need reade access
DarkMillian
i check it then
Cork
*read
DarkMillian: by access i mean addisional access, it needs read access to alot of other parts of the system
DarkMillian
ýe
yes yes
i configing a few things
no luck yet...
well,i think i have enough infomation to fix in myself thanks...
DETHKORE
so, is there someone here who doesn't have the freezing problem or the other-window-coming-up-instead problem?
is there a way i can diagnose what's going on when firefox takes a long time to do something?
kbrosnan_
firefox's safe mode, new profile, disable plugins...
kbrosnan
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting covers most of that
DETHKORE
that sounds like it would involve restarting firefox every time there's a problem
which is obviously ridiculous

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_explorer.asp
62.5% non-microsoft-IE
http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php ..... says about 51.22% IE meaning 48.8% non-ie
also says osx+linux+iphone osx + wap browsers make up 10+% of market so maybe that will push out windows-proprietary browser plugins period

hi, anyone using firefox@deviantart.com?
it refuses to load page from categories deep on 3 and more, manually refreshed page loads

any ideas why does thunderbird stop an SMTP negotiation after sending EHLO and receiving smtp response to that, the connection is configured as STARTTLS, and that is what the server says it suports (in EHLO response)
thunderbird works on all other than this single windows 7 correctly, and it's of the latest version
reisi-2
sorry, connection for reisi is pretty fubar, did anyone answer his (mine) question?
sassyn
hi
does someone know how to disable the remmber password
using the firefox.js file?
bipolar
Does anyone know a way to import a SSL CA cert into firefox from the command line? I need to install our company CA Cert on all my Linux workstations.
sassyn
does someone know how to disable the remmber password ?
kbrosnan
sassyn: options or prefs > security
sassyn
Yes - I know this
I want to do this on cmd line
as general
and not for specific user
kbrosnan
set the pref and stick in in the default profile
sassyn
kbrosnan - how do i do that?
kbrosnan
create a user.js file and stick it in the defaults\profile folder
copy the pref line from your profiles prefs.js
sassyn
kbrosnan: 10x
kbrosnan: It is working
bipolar - this is nothing to do with firefox
bipolar - it is more a linux issue
bipolar - which distru?
bipolar
sassyn: Everything I've read says firefox has it's own SSL cert database. I already have my SSL CA installed globaly in /etc/ssl/certs. I'm running Kubuntu
I'm using https protected apt repos, and apt works with my CA cert.
Cork[home]
yup, firefox has its own cert manager
bipolar
sassyn: I've read up on using certtool, but the only databases for CA certs I can find are in the user's profiles.
Cork[home]
it doesn't care about the os certs at all
sassyn
bipolar: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/tools/certutil.html
bipolar
sassyn: yes. I've read that page.
sassyn
bipolar
sassyn: yep. found that one too
sassyn: they all deal with certs in the users profile directory
I can't create a packge that goes into users profile's and changes things. I need a global place to put the cert DB
so all users and all the users profiles accept this CA
Cork[home]
bipolar: firefox don't have a global store
you have to import it to existing profiles
but you can add it to a default profile, so new profiles will have it
bipolar
Damnit
Cork[home]
all certs even root certs are in cert8.db
firefox has some certs bundled into it, and will use this to create the cert8.db if its missing
bipolar
thats just ugly
Cork[home]
but normaly it will only look there
bipolar
Cork[home]: The ssl cert db must be embedded into some library, since it's not in the global profile template directory
kbrosnan
nss
bipolar
kbrosnan: right. nss. but there is no database I can find for nss other then in the profile directory.
kbrosnan: it seems that the database is embedded somewhere in firefox and gets written out when the profile directory is created.
kbrosnan
it is part of the binary, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2553 allows for adding ssl certs to firefox
the other option would be to recompile firefox
bipolar
kbrosnan: ahh... I only found an outdated version of that extention for firefox 2.0
kbrosnan: perhaps firefox has a global extention directory?
Cork[home]
it does
bipolar
ahh ha!
maybe that is the solution then
I'll see what I can do with that. Thanks kbrosnan, Cork[home]
at least there is hope :)
kbrosnan
bipolar: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Installing_extensions
bipolar
kbrosnan: it's looking better!
_sho_
anyone use moonlight?
http://beamartian.jpl.nasa.gov/maproom <- doesnt work with moonlight?
says i need to install silverlight?....
bipolar
kbrosnan: I got my CA inported using the extention installed by hand. Now if I can get it globaly I'm good to go. Thanks so much for that link to CCK. It's going to give me a lot of help with some other things too.

Hello All. Can anyone help me with firefox fonts in ubuntu? looks pretty bad!
dean1012yh
I have a CSS based website and it appears fine in Firefox 3.5.5 but it seems css positioning is handled differently between Firefox 3.0 and 3.5 as things are not displayed properly in Firefox 3.0
Cork[home]
dean1012yh: do you have a link?
