I got an issue regarding spyware (I presume) from www4.infoweb.net and www.ndparking.com and learning from others only happen in firefox, anybody here knows how to resolve this matter? I use linux operating system
cimenta
hi all, I have a thunderbird question, can I place it here?
terracotta
cimenta: sure.
there is nothing better to do here anyway :-)
cimenta
terracotta, cool thank you
Swisher21
anyone running mobile firefox
cimenta
terracotta could you tell me if I can get rid of the vertical line if I reply to any email?
terracotta
cimenta: vertical line, you mean quote mark?
cimenta
terracotta probably, there is just one table in the email so it looks like one unbroked vertical line
Swisher21
anyone running mobile firefox on a samsung code sch i220 smartphone ?

terracotta
cimenta, so you want to se regular marks ( like > ) in front of quotes or nothing (which is not the best idea)?
cimenta
terracotta it's not > it is a unbroken line (maybe screenshot would help)
terracotta but just in this case I want nothing
terracotta
cimenta, yes, but in reality it sends marks. It's just a graphical representation that most people find useful.
cimenta: one moment then.
cimenta
terracotta I use gmail and I am happy with it. I needed more advanced html email editor so I used thunderbird. I does what I need and now I need to edit the same email I already sent out and I do not want the extra line there
terracotta
ok
I'm testing it on mine. I don't want to break yours with wrong advice. ;-)
cimenta
terracotta maybe the best would be if I send you the email :-) I've just tested addon Quote Colors and it did not help :-(
terracotta
cimenta, just for understanding, I will try to bring you the technicalities. The quote (the line) shows only in your software. It is a tag in html ( <blockquote> ) and each client reads it the way it is made to read. When you sent the mail as plain text, it will be represented as quote characters (which you can verify by reading the file as a source.
cimenta
hm, let me try
terracotta
If you want not to see the quote, you can go to your preferences -> advenced -> config editor and find line mail.quoted_graphical to false.
(you will see it, but not as a line but characters. that's what was there from the beginning. the line is just post formatting which is more visible and easier on your eyes than characters on the beginning of each line)
kbrosnan
Swisher21: is it a windows mobile phone?
cimenta
terracotta: that's interesting. so I tried to send it to some of my web based emails. Gmail will display the lines the other one not. can I achive that none will display them?
terracotta: I don't care if I see them I want to make sure that the other party will not have them there
terracotta
terracotta: in this case, you can edit your user.js file
make backup copy of it first
insert those 3 lines:
user_pref("mail.quoted_graphical", false);
user_pref("mail.quoteasblock", false);
user_pref("mailnews.display.disable_format_flowed_support", true);
cimenta
ok,I try
terracotta
Just remember, not using quote signs is against accepted standards and netiquette. I'm not saying you can't do it, just it might annoy some.
cimenta
terracotta it is just in this one particullar case. I will probably not use thunderbird for writing emails so much
terracotta: user.js would be in program files or my profile directory?
terracotta
yes
cimenta
terracotta: I don't have user.js on my disk ...
terracotta
cimenta: what's you operating system?
cimenta
terracotta win xp
terracotta
heck, one seccond

cimenta
terracotta it's here http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/edit
terracotta
cimenta: so you can make one. go to your profile directory and create as plain text (with text editor0
cimenta: I've never used win xp so I'm not familiar with it's file system. I'm sorry for that.
cimenta
terracotta: don't be sorry! do I have to restart TB?
terracotta
One more change. you have to edit (or create) userContent.css and add what's in the pastebin: http://pastebin.com/d1fc3e03
cimenta: (not the numbers on the beginning of the quote)
cimenta: after you restart, it will be ready for your task. I'll be back in 40m to 1h.
cimenta
QuoteAndComposeManager did the trick!!!!
waeyn
Hi. How would I make tabs spawn next to my current tab instead of at the end of the tab list?
nevermind, found the plugin. :)
kbrosnan
waeyn: they are changing the behavior to that in 3.6
auscompgeek
grr... I can't seem to get ANY extensions to be enabled using extensions.checkCompatibility3.7a...
Raydiation
wow what are those awesomes fonts in the main title http://www.spreadfirefox.com/5years/de/ ?
is this woff fonts?
auscompgeek
very wibbly wobbly :)
jorrit
Hi
I'm trying to find (in about:config) where I can change the location of my profile folder.
But I can't seem to find it. And I have been unable to find it with google either.
Any clues?
Cork
jorrit: how could it be in the profile?
jorrit
Cork: ?
Cork
firefox would have to have found it to be able to get the setting
auscompgeek
(Action) slaps jorrit around a bit with a large trout
jorrit
Cork, ok so how?
Cork
just above your profile folder
theres an profiles.ini
jorrit
I have not been able to find that. Just above my profile folder there is nothing.
Cork
%AppData%\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini
jorrit
Ok but %AppData% is the problem.
I need firefox to NOT use that at all.
Cork
why not?
jorrit
Because it is a roaming directory which is reset from time to time (work stuff)
This is my work laptop and I can't depend on %AppData% to be constant unfortunatelly.
Cork
ok, then you need to specify the profile full path when you start firefox.exe
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Command_line_arguments
jorrit
hmm annoying...
Cork
"-profile" part
jorrit: not really, its logical
epbalu
/msg NickServ identify password
jorrit
Logical but still annoying.
Cork
when firefox loads, it looks %appdata% to find the profiles.ini, it tells it where to find the profile
jorrit
There are a few situations where I can't easily provide a commandline.
Cork
there really is no other way, if you don't recompile firefox
jorrit
Like when firefox is opened automatically from within other programs.
Cork
jorrit: blame your company
Guest22284
my Ctrl key is stuck
Cork
its there stupid idea to reset roming profiles -_-'
jorrit
Well it is not really reset as such. I don't 100% understand it but the people here at work says it is a problem that some apps (like firefox) seem to have with the way things are setup here.
Cork
jorrit: then you can add a full path in profiles.ini
it doesn't have to be stored in %appdata%
but its where firefox will look to find where the profile is located
jorrit
I still haven't found profiles.ini
Guest22284
(Action) slaps jorrit around a bit with a large trout
Cork
%AppData%\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini <--
jorrit
Guest22284, ?
cork, not there.
Cork
xp?
jorrit
I don't even have a Mozilla folder in Roaming
Vista
Cork
have you run firefox at all?
jorrit
of course!
It is open right now.
Cork
then it has to be there
Guest22284
no Roaming
Cork
it you don't run a specialy compiled company version of ff
jorrit
Guest22284, what do you mean?
cork, no standard mozilla.
Guest22284
nm
Cork
then what i said stands
jorrit
ah finally found it. I have a lot of 'Roaming' dirs it seems :-)
Cork
if its not there, you don't have a firefox profile at all, and firefox won't start without it
jorrit
But I found it on a network drive.
Where %AppData% apparently points too.
Guest22284
stupid keyboard
Cork
auscompgeek: your going to ident soon? :)
Guest22284
...
jorrit
hmm weird. Seems I already have a duplicate of the profile in c:\Users\jorrit\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox
Perhaps I can simply point profiles.ini there.
Cork
joeytwiddle: nope
the one in local is only the firefox cache
Guest22284
can't without my keyboard
Cork
its not your profile
jorrit
ah
Cork
auscompgeek: you'r typing with though transer right now you mean? >_>
Guest22284
writing pad...
Cork
O_o''
ouch
Guest22284
yeah...
jorrit
Hmm. I suppose I have to set IsRelative to 0?
And use c:/bla/bla notation?
TestPilot
mzz: do you mind if I pm you? I see you offline, but whenever you are back...
Cork
jorrit: correct
jorrit
bah it isn't working somehow...
Guest22284
<Guest22284>my Ctrl key is stuck
Cork
well i hope your using c:\ and not c:/ ;)
jorrit
Cork: but the other slashes that were already there were forward slashes?
Cork
<_<
hmm your right
jorrit: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profiles.ini_file
full path should still be \
jorrit
ok
Can't read that.
My browser is currently busted :-/
Cork
just open it in ie then
jorrit
But I'll um
um
Firefox says firefox is already running.
But it isn't.
I'm checking in taskmanager.
No firefox.exe in there
Cork
jorrit: check so you don't have a parent.lock file in your profile
jorrit
Problem is... which profile...
Cork
the one pointed to by your profiles.ini
jorrit
No lock file there
Cork
they your profiles.ini is prob falty
bmidgley2
is there a way to install firebug 1.3.3 on firefox 3.0.x?
1.4.5 complains my js is not text
jorrit
cork, yes. It works again if I switch back to forward slashes.
cork, but then it fails to find that profile.
Cork
O_o
jorrit
cork, and it even modifies my profiles.ini with a totally new profile.
Cork
bmidgley2: you mean 3.0.x ow 2.0.x?
*or
bmidgley2
firefox 3.0.10 (linux)
Cork
jorrit: if it doesn't find the profile it will create a new one
jorrit
yes
bmidgley2
or is there another workaround for firebug refusing to show the js?
Cork
bmidgley2: then its just to install it normally
jorrit
So I'm still unable to let it point to my local drive.
bmidgley2
I get 1.4.5 when I install normally
Cork
bmidgley2: "show the js"?
jorrit
c:\bla doesn't work (firefox still running it claims). And c:/bla is overwritten.
Cork
jorrit: you have to read through that kb page i liked you to
jorrit
Not yet. I will do that now.
Guest22284
finally my keyboard is working again! :)
now, to /nick...
bmidgley2
Cork, firebug 1.4.5 says something like "the contents of xx.js is not text"
instead of the text
can't set breakpoints, etc
Cork
bmidgley2: is this page public?
bmidgley2
no, sorry
internal app
Cork
cause that sounds like a coding bug, rather then an firebug bug
bmidgley2
it was showing the text in older versions of firebug, but of course I don't mind fixing my code if I knew where to look
Cork
jorrit
cork, I got it working. I think the problem was that firefox was unable to load the profile from within c:\Users\jorrit\AppData where I put it in a new folder. So now I moved it to a more neutral location on my C: drive and it seems to work.
Cork
Guest22284
...
oops, forgot to /nick here...
jorrit
Cork, thanks for the help. I'm leaving now.
auscompgeek
too bad I couldn't help...
ilyak

also, where's its about:config?
auscompgeek

epbalu
how to remove the left margin when I take print from firefox browser?
auscompgeek
that's added so that the print doesn't fall off the page :)
epbalu
