using suse 11.1 kde4.2 and today I can't attach anything in gmail.... is killing me, anybody got any clues? Is there somewhere else I can check aside from error console?
it just brings up the dialog, and after selecting the file, dissappears, without showing anything attached....
qubit
ok, i've got a web server with php offering up a text/plain file but without a .txt extension (has .crt). but whenever I try to save the file, firefox keeps adding .txt to it, where is this behaviour coming from?
the actual path being served ends in .crt. I have apache mod_rewrite sending it through a php script
mzz
hmm, I think I've seen that, but I haven't tried to figure out what's triggering it
are you sending a suggested filename along in the headers?
I'd expect doing that to help
qubit
i tried that, both as inline and attachment disposition, neither helped
internet exploder behaves as indended (shocking, i know)
i am sending a content-type text/plain header, but if i remove that, firefox adds .html instead...

Does firefox cache the values entered into a webpage's form?
kbrosnan
some times, non-ssl pages yes
papermachine
Is there a way to find them?
I looked up the page in about:cache, and it's there, but not the values
kbrosnan
might be in sessionstore.js in your profile
papermachine
Okay, I've found an entry in sessionstore.js that corresponds to the proper page, and it has a tag "_formDataSaved:true", but I don't see the form data anywhere.
It looks like sessionstore.js gets wiped every time firefox closes, it which case I'm boned anyway. Thanks though.

kbrosnan
formhistory.sqlite
most likely

Does anyone know the FF equiv. to IE's .URL shortcut/launcher/whatever?
papermachine
kbrosnan, thanks for your help. Looks like I never entered the data in the first place. Oh well. I really appreciate it, though :) I'll just have to pray enough students answer my e-mail...
qubit
Lns: seems to be .url also. I just dragged a bookmark to the desktop and its .url, but opens with FF, so it must embed the browser in the link file
Lns
qubit: i think you're running winodws, right? Actually I did the same thing in ubu 8.04, it creates a .desktop launcher for a "link". I think I can work with that :) thank you
qubit
ah, thought you were as well from the IE comment. but glad that works for you too :-)

hi
can someone help me with cutemenus2?
jimi_
Does firefox do HTML 5?
mzz
jimi_: bits of it
jimi_: anything in particular you're after?
jimi_
mzz, wanted to try the HTML 5 page @ youtube
kbrosnan
won't work because of codec/patent bs
mzz
jimi_: that so-called html 5 page mainly needs the <video> element with support for the h.264 codec. Firefox has the former but not the latter. Sec.
jimi_
Which browsers do support it?
mzz
jimi_: http://lists.whatwg.org/htdig.cgi/whatwg-whatwg.org/2009-June/020620.html for lots of boring background

is there a way to view the XML of a feed (rather than having the "Add to Google" come up all the time?) easily?
Kaell
I'm reading this: http://www.pcmech.com/article/clearing-all-favicons-from-firefox-3-cache-how-to/
and trying to find an easy way to quickly clear the favicon.ico cache. IE works, but Firefox has the wrong favicons for my site. Any ideas?
Those all seem ridiculous. I'm not installing an SQLite manager application just so I can dive into some file, and delete some hidden entry.
Nor am I creating a new profile from scratch.
mzz
Kaell: I vaguely recall there being an extension for it
jimi_
Which browsers do support it? mzz
mzz
jimi_: just chrome, I think
no, wait
chrome and safari?
not sure if there's any others

jimi_
oh ok
chrome != google chrome right?
mzz
that's the one I meant
jimi_
which one? :D
mzz
google chrome and apple safari
I don't know of any other kinds of chrome that make sense in this context
jimi_
chromium browser?
mzz
I'm pretty sure chromium doesn't have h.264 for licensing/patent reasons. See the ml post I originally linked to.
I don't see h.264 get adopted more than it already has until a bunch of patents expire (not soon)
but again, that ml post covers this

So when will firefox support the sql specification?
kbrosnan
what sql specification?
orange--
With the window.openDatabase
I'm looking to replace my google gears with html5 sql...
kbrosnan
fairly sure that is called localstorage in html5
orange--
Do you happen to have a working example or tutorial that I can follow? I've been looking for days but the closest I can find it the WebKit stuff...
kbrosnan
developer.mozilla.org search for storage
orange--
ok, thanks. I'll look there instead of through google

hi
anyone knows why firefox sometimes shows me that address can't found yet when i reload it all goes ok?
Cale
Does anyone happen to know off hand why when I move my mouse inside an "Opening <filename>" download box, the OK button greys itself out for a split second, occasionally a bit longer? Is it a known bug/misfeature? It's a minor thing, but it's rather frustrating to click OK and then have nothing happen and have to notice that it was greyed out and click again.
http://cale.yi.org/share/Screenshot-Greyout.png <-- a picture in case that's not clear.
auscompgeek
it's actually a feature :)
Cale
It's evil.
Is there a switch to turn it off?
auscompgeek
wait...

guys, relay this finding to others: Kaspersky AV is known to interfere with installation of firefox extensions
mgv4
hi - when i click on links with ask.com a new tab gets opened - why?
kbrosnan
mgv4: must use target=_blank
mgv4
kbrosnan: what is that?
kbrosnan
tells the browser to use a fresh window, which firefox modfies slightly to a new tab
mgv4
kbrosnan: what do i need to change to stop it from opening new tabs or windows?
orange--
When doing a search in developer center I see mention of topics like "Storage in en" and "DOM Storage in en/DOM". What is this "en" that keeps getting mentioned?
kbrosnan
english
mzz
orange--: english
orange--
thanks
I see example code in javascript and c++ when I look at the first article https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Storage. How is the browser suppose to compile c++ code?!
mzz
it isn't
orange--
ok, so where is this code suppose to reside if it is not on an html page?
mzz
notice that page is not about DOM storage, it's about the sqlite bindings used in extensions and firefox itself
see the "Note:" at the top, which links to the DOM storage you're probably after
orange--
I don't think DOM storage is what I want. I want to be able to access a SQLite database...
A local SQLite database
Correct me if I'm wrong but when you say DOM storage I immediately think storage that will be put in the DOM and not accessible via the local file system.
mzz, kbrosnan: ?
siebrand
I need a Firefox 2 for Windows. Having a hard time finding it. Any suggestions?
mzz
siebrand: releases.mozilla.org or ftp.mozilla.org
Canageek
My ff3.5.4 has suddenly stopped saving the open windows when I close it
mzz
orange--: you can't access a local sqlite file by path from web content (although the dom storage I referred to happens to be stored in one)
orange--: what are you actually trying to accomplish?
Canageek
Is there any way to fix that?
siebrand
mzz: excellent. Thanks.
orange--
mzz: I want to use firefox forms as the frontend to the payroll database
mzz
orange--: that sounds like it would need to be written as an extension
orange--: (in which case yes, you'd use that Storage page you originally found)
orange--
mzz: I wish I understood how the code on that page fits in with browser.
mzz: I think if I could figure out where that code goes so I could start adding and testing it I'd be good to go off and develop.
mzz
orange--: it won't run in a page just loaded into the browser
you'd need to acquire universal xpcom privs somehow, and I have no clue how to do that
kbrosnan
Canageek: tools > option > main when firefox starts is restore tabs and windows set?
Canageek
Found the problem right after I asked for help of course
Firefox wasn't closing for some reason, the window was just closing
therefore it had never closed & didn't resotre tabs on open
kbrosnan
ahh
orange--
mzz: thanks. So my goal now is to figure out how to install the environment allowing me to start using the "Storage" API.
mzz
Canageek: use file -> exit to exit to sometimes avoid that kind of thing
Canageek
Bah
mzz
orange--: well, you might simply want to write an extension (see #extdev on irc.mozilla.org)
orange--: or you may have other options. I haven't looked into getting universalxpcom without being an extension
orange--
mzz: just a moment, afk

nicetry

nicetry
