I can't seem to change the mode of files that get created with the appendfile transport in the settings
http://www.exim.org/exim-html-3.20/doc/html/spec_15.html
I'm trying to use something like mode = 0777
something like http://pastie.org/910172
but then the files don't seem to get written
HardDisk_WP
hey
I try to use http://www.devco.net/archives/2006/03/14/exim_vacation_messages.php
but even if I send emails to an account
the vacation.db is not created
wtf is going on here?
I'm using exim on debian testing w/ split configs,b tw
JasonGiedymin
hi friends
running ubuntu, and with sendmail i'd normally use sendmail -f (to override from). How is this accomplished with exim?
(using php to do the sending)
petemc_
exim is sendmail compatible
only trusted users can do that tho
lots of of peoole now just have php use smtp
JasonGiedymin
you mean exim -> smtp?
or php -> smtp
petemc_
i mean instead of calling sendmail using smtp
JasonGiedymin
yeah i know, but i think by trying to retain the mail queue, then run wait times will decrease (less cpu, offloading to exim)
i think...(or at least thats how i remember the smtp stuff in php)
rimmele_mnm
hi, is it possible to edit a mail in the queue, if i have the id? i must change the senders adress...
henk
rimmele_mnm: yes.

rimmele_mnm
and how? :)
henk
rimmele_mnm: -Mes
rimmele_mnm
okay works. thanks.

hi guys, does anyone know if there is a way that i can say when a mail comes from applications@somedomain.tld going to mailer-daemon@mail.otherdomain.tld it should just delete it and not say anything back to the sender?
someone using my server has a auto responder and its sending to mailer-daemon which doesnt exist, so their auto responder is sending back and making a big mess
Lap_64
hi there
how can i create an email account for exim through command line
pro
Lap_64, depends on how you set exim up
henk
Lap_64: read the docs... we don't know your setup and our crystal balls already have weekend
Lap_64
pro, i just installed it through yum
pro, and using default conf file
henk
Lap_64: read it, understand it, figure out how to create the user you need.
pro
like for me i would say echo "INSERT INTO exim4.vuser set user='someone', domain='blah.tld', pass=MD5('1234'), relay='no', active='1'" but i have a sneeking suspiction that it wont work on your setup
oh, i forgot the | mysql -p part
but anyway,
henk
'g'
pro
Lap_64, try 'adduser' and see if that works
and then you will have to figure out what pop3/imap server you using
like adduser bob
and then you will have have to make sure exim is set to accept mail for the domain bob is from, and have local deliver configured and what what
Lap_64
phew
pro
and like henk said, read the docs.... and then slit your writs in a bath tub....
Lap_64
thanks pro
pro
cause i tried to read the docs, i have no clue what that sh*t is on about, like i think the ones i read are missing a few chapters somewhere cause its like ... reading.. reading... understanding... ok, got it... hey, wait, what the fu*k.. whats that, how'd that... wait a second... what i miss....
Lap_64
pro, hahaha
pro
i just look for configs online and then read those,
Lap_64, do you know sql at all?
Lap_64
pro, actually sorry to say this
but i have just inatalled postfix now
pro, and configured it using webmin
henk
rofl

pro
yeah, i was afraid that you would do that
Lap_64
lols
pro
but it should be ok for now, but one day you will find you need to do something and spend days trying to figure it out on postfix/sendmail/qmail and then realize that exim is the only one that can do it...and you'll sit and think, seeeeyt.... should have learnt it back then.....
:D
brb.... smoke....
not as in smoke, the building is on fire.... im not a bash.org thing, i mean smoke as in i have too much blood in my nicotine stream....
brb
henk
hrhr... like "omg, i have just set the ground floor on fire and now i need to hurry out of here because i just came back up to the 20th floor to inform you" ;)
pro
yeah, like that..
thats why i love reading bash, cause it makes feel better about my self... at least im not as dumb as those people
henk
'g' true
pro
oh, and i solved that problem i was having, i made a new transport and a router that just appends the mail for /dev/null *G*

TLS error on connection from *** [***] (cert/key setup: cert=/et
c/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem key=/etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key): Error while reading file.
any idea why exim don't want to accept this ssl cert/key?
henk
permissions probably...
fly-away
hi2all
henk
Guest96276: ls -ld /etc/ssl/ /etc/ssl/private/ /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
fly-away
how can i do relay and mail copy in exim?
henk
fly-away: read the docs and figure it out. ask in case of problems.
fly-away
i mean both - local delivary and mail relaying to host for some domain
henk
answer stays the same...
Guest96276
henk, path and file have root permissions
henk
Guest96276: that's the commands output?
Guest96276
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 208 2010-03-05 19:45 /etc/ssl/
drwx--x--- 2 root ssl-cert 4096 2010-03-21 19:55 /etc/ssl/private/
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root ssl-cert 887 2010-03-05 19:44 /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
henk
Guest96276: is the user exim runs as in the group ssl-cert?
fly-away
henk, is i need to use smarthost or what?
henk
fly-away: do you know what a smarthost is?
fly-away
do you think I ask it cause I know?
henk
you could just fscking google it instead of taking other people's time...
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=smarthost
Guest96276
henk, even after I've set file permissions to 777, it wasn't been accessed
fly-away
why you cant just ignore me if you dont want to answer?
henk
Guest96276: can you just answer my question?
fly-away: i can, i just don't want to ignore every other loser not capable of using google or reading the docs.
fly-away
you looser man
really ;)
http://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/spec_html/ch40.html#SECTrelaycontrol - nothing about onetime relaying and local delivery
Guest96276
henk, no, it doesn't runs as ssl-cert
henk
fly-away: you are looking at documentation that explains how exim works. YOU need to figure out how to use exim to do what you want...
Guest96276: that was not the question.
Guest96276
henk, yes, I've added this group now to Debian-exim
