hi. my mailserver is being spammed with relay tries (which, of course, do not succeed). But i have some trouble due to load now, as exim often gives me the error "too many concurrent smtp requests" (or something)
any ideas?

data: depends on what the exact circumstances are...
data
hmm. there are about 100 hosts that are more active, trying in between 300 and 6000 times a day
and lots that hover around 1-50
henk
perhaps a limit on the maximum number of connections per host helps?
data
using exim or iptables?
henk
exim
i'm just asking :) you could also make a local blacklist if you know the ip (ranges) of the hosts and check that blacklist in acl_smtp_connect or whatever it's called...

that's the list of hosts. first number is number of rejected rcpts
how would i do that with exim?
(limiting the number of connections)
petemc
exim -bP | grep max

Hi everyone! I have an Exim problem I am unable to solve. Basically we have incoming connections that get "stuck". Strace shows "futex(0x2ace1f1099e0, FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE, 2, NULL". I can only kill it to stop it. The spool folder shows an associated -D file which then stays there until I manually remove it.
Now the question .. any clue why it's stuck in FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE and how I can get this resolved?
US$ 50 for however can get this resolved for me :P

Any idea what could be causing the error message: "did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to EMTA"
It's definitely not client-side failure.
henk
Orbixx: any context?
Orbixx
henk: Sorry, not very fluent with MTAs, what do you mean?
henk
Orbixx: if there are any messages related to this one...
Orbixx
Ah, I see.
Any and all messages.
henk
i have never seen what you quoted as a full error message. there should be other messages telling you about the context you have to see this message in.
Orbixx
I'll check.
henk
in my rcpt acl i check the sender against a local blacklist. exim -bhc does not mention the filename anywhere though. is there any other way to test things like that?
