How does exim fetch DKIM public keys. What does it exactly query?

hi, I'm having some greylisting issues here
2010-04-27 11:46:30 1O6hN8-0007iJ-3w SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<mail@bkwn.de>: host mx02.goneo.de [82.100.220.162]: 450 4.2.0 <mail@bkwn.de>: Recipient address rejected: Greylisted, see http://postgrey.schweikert.ch/help/bkwn.de.html
2010-04-27 11:46:30 1O6hN8-0007iJ-3w == mail@bkwn.de R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp defer (-44): SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<mail@bkwn.de>: host mx01.goneo.de [82.100.220.161]: 450 4.2.0 <mail@bkwn.de>: Recipient address rejected: Greylisted, see http://postgrey.schweikert.ch/help/bkwn.de.html
2010-04-27 11:46:45 1O6hN8-0007iJ-3w Spool file 1O6hN8-0007iJ-3w-D not found
does anyone know what could be wrong there?
is there any way to check the mail for conformity somewhere?
phx
mrec, nothing is wrong there, excelt you lost a spool file
mrec
phx: the problem is that the mail didn't get delivered
phx
yes
GREYLISTING
have you read the error message?
wait, let me help
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=greylisting
mrec
there is no error message?
phx
check the logs and you'll see whether there are any error messages
mrec
nope
there's no further error message
phx
do you know what? is greylisting (warning: rhethorical question)
s/\?( is greylisting)/\1?/

mrec
well it should try to send the mail later?
phx
that's how you deal with it
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=greylisting
mrec
Typically, a server that uses greylisting will record the following three pieces of information (known as a "triplet") for each incoming mail message:
ups
I don't like greylisting....
now the question is how I can configure exim4 to work with that
phx
you mean, to use greylisting, or handled greylisted mails?
mrec
to automatically retry to deliver the mail
phx
topic's 2nd section, retry configuration
mrec
there's this one in the config file
* * F,2h,15m; G,16h,1h,1.5; F,4d,6h
after begin retry
although I highly doubt that it works
phx
great. read the docs and decode what does it do
mrec
retry every 15 minutes for 2 hours
etc.
phx
and now read what are you writing, you're answering your own questions right now. etc.
mrec
but it doesn't work?
I do not see that it got delivered in the logfile
even for past sent emails
phx
check when should it send the mail, and also check how often does the queuerunner run. if the queuerunner is not sending it, it doesn't work. if it does, it's working
mrec
queue is empty
is there any sane configuration tool available for exim4?
I haven't messed around with exim configs for ages now
mail should just work and not require to fiddle around that much
I think I'll kill this exim and reinstall a new one
phx
i never had that issue
try running exim in debug mode and check what it's doing
the strange part was at the end of what you pasted
when it wanted to touch the spool file, it wasn't there after getting the 450
mcayland
hi folks. how do i override a "retry time not reached for any host" error?
henk
mcayland: you use the *db-tools to change the entry in the database...
mcayland
exim_dumpdb?
henk
mcayland: don't guess...
mcayland
i'm trying to kick an MTA to resend to a server that was down earlier
however i've read some articles about exinext but it doesn't seem to return any useful information for the message ids in question
henk
there are not too many exim_*db tools in the exim package and they have a shared manpage...

phx
mcayland, exim -bp will list the queue
mcayland, exim -M resends. man exim
mcayland
hmmm if i try and send individual messages i get errors such as 'Spool file X not found'
but i can see the file
well it seems to exist in the exim4 spool directory
phx
mcayland, exim, debug mode. check the uids/gids, rights on the spool dir, so on
mcayland
hmmm permissions seem fine
new mails are getting added to the spool directory but exim is still refusing to deliver them for some reason
phx: exim -d ?
phx
mcayland, man exim
seriously, read the docs
mcayland
phx: i think i got it... it's something to do with cyrus
phx
never used cyrus myself. and i found it somewhere, removed it ASAP
mcayland
-d+retry was hanging connecting to one of the backend LMTP servers so I've just restarted it
borei
hi falks
can somebody gimme headsup regarding sender verification
is it possible to specify <MAIL FROM>
lennard
borei: man 5 postconf, probably one of the ones starting with address_verify
borei
looking
hmm no entry in the section
is it from exim or indepeneded package ?
petemc
postconf?
wrongchan, i would guess
lennard
oh, right
sorry
thats a postfix thing
borei
lol
how it can be implemted in exim ?
implemented
lennard
that, I don't know... and I'm not very fast with the exim docs
but I think its there somewhere ;)
petemc
sender verification tests whether the senders address can be delivered to, what do you mean specify mail from?
borei
exim is doing callout to with <> Mail from
petemc
ah
callouts are contentious
borei
some remote servers rejects <>
petemc
i dont use them myself
they shouldnt
phx
who rejects <> is not a valid MTA
borei
well without sender verification I'll die under spam
phx
<> is for bounces
borei
yeah i understand, but my customers - you know
they don't care
mail need to be deliverd
i've canceled postmaster check because non-rfc mailservers
damn
phx
let's roll
