hi, by default exim sends from www-data@domain
where can I overide this setting?

hello
is it okay for an email server to send multiple 220 greetings on connection instead of just on?
one*
looks like Exim doesn't conform to the RFC and allows multiple 220 lines to be sent
CunningPike
magglass1: Our exim sends only one
magglass1
CunningPike: but it allows you to put line returns in the parameter in the config file
do you happen to have a link to the default Exim config file?
CunningPike
magglass1: It also allows you drop mail on the floor, and backscatter. Your point?
magglass1
idk, I guess I should smack whoever wrote this config file
which, in this case, is cPanel

hey all, got a question.. as far as I can tell my dedicated server is running exim (I am slightly new to server admin) anyway, my ip's are getting blacklisted due to bad reputation
I sent an email to my evolution email client and got the following in the header...
Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=jgdovin.com) by server.trwdesigns.com with esmtpa (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from <josh@jgdovin.com>) id 1NmCyI-0003Ei-Ur for josh@jgdovin.com; Mon, 01 Mar 2010 13:16:10 -0800
could the received from localhost be part of the problem?
CunningPike
amouge: That's from your exim server? Or the remote one?
amouge: If server.trwdesigns.com is your server, it's listed at www.backscatterer.org, which is usually a pretty good indication that your server is not configured properly
amouge
CunningPike: yea... see the thing is.. lemme see if i can explain..
we have 15 ip's
trwdesigns.com is my partner's domain and set up as the hostname, and nameserver of the server
the ip associated with that server is blacklisted on backscatterer.org.. the other 14 are blacklisted on barracuda....
and just trying to figure out if the header would help someone point me in a good direction
CunningPike
If you are listed on backscatter.org, you are likely bouncing spam
Google "reject don't bounce"
http://www.dontbouncespam.org/

thanks CunningPike I will look into it. wish there was a more sure way of deciding whats causing it. but will definately look
CunningPike
amouge: If you're backscattering, that's almost 100% likely to be the issue
amouge
thanks CunningPike
CunningPike
amouge: PM me your email address
amouge: And I can demonstrate backscatter to you
amouge
CunningPike: k
CunningPike
amouge: Well, you're rejecting for invalid addresses anyway - what about spam - how are you filtering that?
amouge
dont have anything setup yet
least not that i know of.. just took this server over
CunningPike
amouge: Not sure if what I sent will get filtered by your spam filters, but if it did, your gmail account should get a bounce
amouge
my gmail account hasnt gotten anything
CunningPike
Did your work account?
amouge
I got spammy spam spam
