petemc: How would I enable the pipe to that file?
petemc
pipe_transport = address_pipe , or whatever the transport to handle pipes is named

Hey there. I've got a problem with this stanza in my exim.conf: http://pastebin.ca/1773668 Any idea why?
More specific: It doesn't reject anything :-/
zaoul
Hi. I am have trouble sending mail to myself that is. I am using php mail() to send out on domain.com but I would also like the script to send me mail to myuser@domain.com exim_mainlog shows that it tried to lookup the primary_hostname and sent to user@smtp.domain.com ?
phx
put exim into debug mode and check the debug output for why is it doing that
DaSourcerer
phx: Can you help me with this stanza in my exim.conf? http://pastebin.ca/1773668 It doesn't filter anything...
phx
not right now, got work to do. but debug output might also be useful for you
djce
DaSourcerer: Not sure, but I'd suspect one or both of two things:
DaSourcerer
'kay, I'll try that

djce
firstly, exim might be turning \n into a newline before it goes to mysql
(so use \\n or \N)
secondly, you might need to change the list separator used on the results.
DaSourcerer
I put '\n' in there b/c ':' didn't work as well :[
djce
hope that helps!
ok.... then debug away. "exim -be" and "exim -d+all" are your friends.
zaoul
:exim -bd -q30m -d should setup debug mode right?
DaSourcerer
Okay, that's a help already. Usually exim just runs so I forget all the params :P
petemc
debug mode wont show anything for mails submitted via sendmail
and you dont need to start queue runners in debug mode
zaoul
oh yeah
fck
DaSourcerer
Hod do I test ACLs exclusively? -d-all+filter ?
phx
by reading man exim?
DaSourcerer
Obviously :-/
phx
don't worry, it took me a few days of reading exim's docs to understand its functionality to a sufficient extent
DaSourcerer
Probably. But I still don't get why my blacklist rule doesn't catch anything...
This is getting a bit frustrating
It looks like everythings expanded correctly, the DB query is being executed... And then nothing.
phx
in what ACL are you trying to apply that BL, and for what field?
DaSourcerer
phx: http://pastebin.ca/1773668
acl_check_rcpt
I'm loading a list of blacklisted email addresses from the DB and try to match senders against it
phx
do a debug run, check the substitution in your query, and verify the query's results by hand
DaSourcerer
according to exim -be everything's fine...
phx
for such functionality i prefer to use storeprocs, it's somewhat more simple and understandable that way
it's also useful to lowercase the input before applying it on a query
think of somebody is sending mail for FooBar@BarShop.com
for/from
DaSourcerer
Hm, true... haven't thought of that...
phx
${lc:}
i was thinking of migrating postgrey's graylisting into my sql scheme, that'd be awesome, i just don't have the time to do it. with exim you can do anything :)
DaSourcerer
...and nothing. With exim you can do everything and nothing. At the same time :[

phx
well, what's the return value of the query for the given sender/recipient pair?
and maybe you should do it with condition=
and returning a 1/0
DaSourcerer
It's the intended list of blacklisted emails
Yeah, thought of the condition-thing as well...
phx
try it that way
DaSourcerer
Maybe later. I'll just uncomment this stanza for now.
er... comment out, I mean
f00li5h
meow?
I have just reset my system's outgoing mail nmae ...
how can I get exim to re-complete the from-names of frozen messages?
petemc
exim -Mes
f00li5h
there are many messages, would there be similar for many?
petemc
exipick -iz | while read ; do exim -Mes $REPLY foo@bar.com ; done - but if you have lots of messages from different people that wont work
that would reset everyones from address to foo@bar
f00li5h
perfect
the messages are from robots ... who should have the same name
petemc
all good then
f00li5h
petemc: are there robots that count karma here, or is a "thanks for the help ;)" enough?
petemc
thanks is fine :)
karma is distributed by the universe, not irc bots :)
f00li5h
indeed, but the robots are quite good with the accounting
petemc: wait, how does $REPLY get the message id?
petemc
from exipick -iz
-iz list message ids of frozen messages
f00li5h
ah!
well, i'll see if the other MTA is done filling my mailbox after a shortnap ...
tanks again
petemc
np
berndj
is there a way of letting a php web page set the sender address, without opening a big hole like trusted_users = nobody ?
petemc
make it use smtp
borei
hi all
where can i find description/documentation regarding backscattering prevention using exim ?
CunningPike
borei: How is the backscatter being generated in the first place?
borei
sorry was on the meeting
well, spammer is sending messges as from nonexistinguser@domain.com
domain.com is my local domain
i'm getting bounced message
actually it can be existing user
in that situation he'll get bounced message, that never was sent by him
CunningPike
borei: Why are you bouncing? You should be rejecting
If you bounce spam, you will generate backscatter. Don't.
borei: Plus, you should probably not accept mail purporting to be FROM your domain that did not originate there
vizzy
http://www.dontbouncespam.org/
CunningPike, the last, i have that kind of problem here. but how can we check that? the domain is in the relay from domain list, but should sender host then always be the server? what about mails coming from e.g. agmail account which has the name@domain from address configured and sends to itself?
borei
will it SPF functionality ?
vizzy
yes its spf i guess
so setting up spf records in dns and exim, and only allow mails from domain.tld from servers who match the key or so.
but spf is still not standard, so you can not reject all non spf signed mails
borei
that is correct
vizzy
but maybe reject mails coming from your domain but do not originate from the server itself, like sending mails to yourself etc.
borei
here is a problem, how can define if the bounced message is a spam or just bounced message because of users error
vizzy
should be possible
borei, using exiscan acl
borei
hmm
vizzy
but rejecting is done at smtp time, so the question is.... does spamscan work at smtp time and before reject? i dont know.
i have kinda same problem 'here'
borei
can you give me some example with exiscan ?
vizzy
but i also like to have knowledge about for what user the mai lis for, and he should decide if spam or viral checking is enabled or not
borei
i can configure reject at any (almost any level)
vizzy
ok, exiscan is easy :) just setup a working clamav, and spamassassin
and in mainconfig: av_scanner = clamd:127.0.0.1 3310
Yeretik
Hi... It's possible to configurate an exim4 for download and deliver mail from a multipop box ?
Hi... It's possible to configure an exim4 for download and deliver mail from a multipop box ?
vizzy
borei, and/or spamd_address = 127.0.0.1 783
borei, then youre almost done, but i would better direct you to the exim docu, that explains it better and more detailed than i ever could do in my weird english
borei
i see what you mean
i have it
vizzy
borei, kewords are: malware = */defer_ok
and spam = spamassassin:true for the data acl
borei
it's done
on the delivery level
but i have problem on the uppper level
i have to level of servers - for all inbound/outbound connections
and delivery servers to local boxes (with A/V, A/S scanning)
i have problem with top level
vizzy
Yeretik, multipop? maybe fetchmail can do
borei
how to reject bounced messeges
Yeretik
fetchmail? Okay... I'll try it
borei
but before reject i need to classify them some how
vizzy
Yeretik, i dont kbnow what multipop is, but pop implies pop3 for me :))
Yeretik
multipop, virtual domains...
vizzy
i also have virtual domains in my courier and exim, but never heared of multipop
maybe something i use but dont know about it.... :))
Yeretik
maybe is a non official term
vizzy
but fetching and deliver mail sounds like a job for fetchmail|maildrop
or ssh+rsync+tar :)
Yeretik
Definitively fetchmail is what i'm lookin' for
Thanks xD
