anyone who has a working exim4/mailman2.1 setup, do you mind letting me have your exim4.conf.template so I can diff it with mine?
I am currently making a right mess of it based off here: http://www.exim.org/howto/mailman21.html#exconf

Can anyone explain the spam = * in the acl_check_data? I've seen various configurations for it (ie: nobody:true) but can't find any real explanation as to what it refers to
djce
"spam = *" isn't in the default Exim configuration. See http://exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/spec_html/ch41.html#SECID206 for what spam= means.
HVittel
So spam = * is not valid syntax?
djce
I don't think so, no. The right hand side should be a username.
(or a username + ":true")

HVittel
Ace! That explains the great confusion with the * which been somewhat throwing us off :)
djce
"malware = *" is valid; that might be the source of the confusion.

Hi, I am looking through exim mainlog and see one "remote_smtp defer (-18)" Google yields explanation of failed DNS lookup, however, this doesn't seem to tell the whole story. I am seeking further explanation of this error. Thanks.
petemc
defer doesnt actually tell you anything
just that it was deferred, look for previous entries for the real reason
plex
OK, I see
closed connection in response to MAIL FROM:<auto-email@CLIENTDOMAIN.com> SIZE=1212606
closed connection in response to sending data block
This would indicate to me that the mail was not sent. However, the msg arrived 5 days later.
djce
plex: what is the whole line, unmangled, that mentions remote_smtp defer ?
plex
djce: mainlog.6:2009-12-30 05:48:49 1NPvN2-0005x5-3q == user@CLIENTDOMAIN.com R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp defer (-18): Remote host mail2.CLIENTDOMAIN.com [ip address] closed connection in response to MAIL FROM:<auto-email@CLIENTDOMAIN.com> SIZE=1212606
djce
ok, thanks.
now,
grep for 1NPvN2-0005x5-3q in your logs.
plex
ok
djce
(Note that I did say unmangled, so please avoid "clientdomain.com" etc. http://wiki.exim.org/DontObfuscate is useful here).
plex
djce: I am somewhat limited by confidentiality clause. Thanks for the tip, I see too may connections, and time outs.
djce
ok, hope it helps. If you must mangle log lines when asking for help, I suggest you use the (reserved) domain "example.com",
and also tell whoever you're asking for help exactly which bits of the logs you're pasting don't actually match reality.
Is our smtp defer starting to make sense?
s/our/your/
plex
It makes sense :) and next time I will surely use the example.com
djce
ok :-)
plex
and grepping for the msg ID showed me where it was completed 5 days later. Perfect!

plex
djce, are you a developer ?
djce
No, just an exim user for a few years.
(Well I am a dev, but not an /exim/ dev).
plex
Ah I see. I'm new to exim/linux. Working as sysadmin / studying for RHCE

Is there a method to change default mail address from exim mail serevr? Like changing from nobody@hostname to test@test.com.

petemc
qualify_domain
or you can use rewrites, depending on what you mean exactly
Ben12
qualify_domain is just changing hostname to domain name. I want to replace entire email id to be replaced.
please advice on required rewrite rule for this modification.
anybody to rewrite nobody@hostname to test@test.com by default?
Petermc, spf keeps blocking mails from apache@hostname. hence I want to change the defailt mail address to a valid mail account. can you please help in settign this?

is exim able to do 2-way smpp binding?
petemc
WizCraker: whats that?
WizCraker
was on phone, SMPP is short message peer to peer protocol for exchanging sms messages between peer entities. v3.4 the most used standard allows for a single connection (bind) that can send and receive messages). Our current implementation is with the Sun Messaging Server, which doesn't support full 3.4 so it only does one-way, which would be email-to-sms.
we don't want to use sendmail to accomplish this, so was wondering if exim supports the smpp v3.4 protocol for two-way smpp bind.
I tried searching through the documentation through the exim site but it fails to bring any results for this or anything else.
