Hello, I have a problem that other mailservers can't send all messages to my mailserver (running exim). Most messages are coming in fine, only a few get a disconnect during the attempt to deliver it and it is delivered multiple times. From the same mailserver other messages are delivered without any problem.

Mark22: error messages?
Mark22
exim isn't logging any error (or even that it did receive the message). from another mailserver (that is sending it to the mailserver) I have the following (many times with different time/date): Jan 20 11:19:17 spamfilter01 postfix/smtp[19426]: C031A2331E: to=<hp@streamservice.nl>, relay=91.199.167.26[91.199.167.26]:25, delay=76896, delays=76896/0.01/0.01/0.09, dsn=4.4.2, status=deferred (lost connection with 91.199.167.26[91.199.167.26] while sending end
http://yourpaste.net/4547/ << for a bigger part off the log for that email
henk
"lost connection" could mean lots...
but it is not a fatal error for the mailsystem.
Mark22
it retries multiple times (and the email is delivered multiple times and that is very irritating)
henk
and it should not happen imho...
Mark22
http://yourpaste.net/4548/ << exim log about the same email
henk
the retries are part of the specification.
Mark22
it are 2 mailservers on different VPS systems in/on the same subnet/rack/switch (network shouldn't be the issue)
where should I look?

phx
exim logs
henk
"lost connection" could either be a network problem or one of the processes talking to each other dying...
phx
and try sending a mail while exim is in debug mode
henk
but neither should be a problem at all regarding mail...
phx
are there any firewalls or proxies between the two peers?
Mark22
no firewalls and no proxies
phx: with exim en debug mode I'll get the following about the email: http://yourpaste.net/4549/
phx
analyze it, i'm busy working, it was just a hint that _might_ help

Quick question: I want to enable my users to compose a list of email adresses they do not wish to receive mails from. Which transport were best fitted for this?
henk
transport? o_O
DaSourcerer
Er.. Sorry, confused that a bit...
henk
i'd have thought that belongs in an acl...
DaSourcerer
Yeah, though of acl_check_rcpt
Then: What would the conditional look like? I thought senders = ... would do. But that didn't work at all...
henk
you have to do a lookup in a certain file the user provides if the sender is NOT in there...
DaSourcerer
Sheesh...
So deny senders = lsearch... won't do?
petemc
you dont need lsearch
deny senders = /etc/exim4/blacklist-senders
works for me
DaSourcerer
Hm, okay... I'm fetching this from a DB. Is there anything I need to look for? Concatenate using newlines?
petemc
pass, i use a text file
i never really understood peoples desire to have everything in a database
tho i do understand why databases are useful, for certain things
DaSourcerer
I don't have *everything* in a DB ;)
petemc
:)
DaSourcerer
It's just convenient for me and them: They can esily manage their blacklist via a webform
*easily
