Suss
hi all

henk
Suss: you are using debian, right?
toma
Hi, I want mail adressed to A be delivered in mailbox B, but mail addressed to B, to be deliverd to user C. How can I prevent mail addressed to A end up in mailbox C ?
ok, found the "real-" solution
thanks
Suss
anyone know as i can send email from exim with domain @test.test ??? pleasee
teron
my log says: Directory harvest attack detected, when i try to send my email to a designated mailserver
the server sending just changed the IP could this be related to that?
petemc
you would probably need to ask them
or is it you giving that error?
teron
it is giving me that error
i dont understand why my attempt to send emails would be recognized as a directory harvest attack
never seen this error before
phx
because spammers might use that technique to verify harvested accounts
this whole email thingie is just fu*ked up
teron
yes it really is

muffnerf
<3 email
it's cool cz it's crap
teron
i wonder how i get the server to stop thinking im a spammer, yesteday i had to get myself off a bunch of spamlists, its a pain
muffnerf
send them a fax :)
teron
haha
petemc
what is it that you're doing that gets you on to spam lists?
teron
petemc: new ip
petemc
that shouldnt get you on spam lists
muffnerf
inheriting an IP with a bad rep is a pain :<
teron
i never had this problem before amazon
phx
you're working at amazon?
teron
but then again i almost never touch mailservers
no, i have some machines in their cloud
phx
that's bad enough
i got some spamwaves from amazon's cloud already
it started right when they started they service :)
teron
:/ spammers are evil
petemc
theres a load of web designers trying to play sysadmin, its hardly suprising
phx
i wouldn't put a mailserver into such a cloud, it's suicide
teron
its just sending emails though
petemc
therein lies the problem
sending is the hard part
teron
yes i noticed :/
phx
recieving is easy. filtering it is hard
teron
yay works now
i guess it only needed time
DNS replication is so 1990s

clever
how would i setup my server to act as a mail gateway
with it relaying the email over a non-standard port
teron
well you would change the settings
i wonder how much money spam costs each year
it has to be a huge amount
i mean just the electricity etc
clever
i know i change the settings:P
but which ones do i change to do it safely
teron
clever: what distrubution are you running
clever
ubuntu
i want any email towards @example.com to be relayed to a certain domain/port
teron
hmm i think you should be able to dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config
but i suggest you read up on it first
clever
its not something standard that i think i would find in debconf
i need to bypass/override the DCsmarthost if the destination is @example.com
and change what port it uses for that
teron
you should consult the manual for this issue
it should be well documented
http://books.google.es/books?id=foCRVaMeRMgC&pg=PA114&lpg=PA114&dq=#v=onepage&q=&f=false
this book was good for me, it might be a little outdated but it is very good
clever
http://www.exim.org/exim-html-3.20/doc/html/spec_46.html#SEC813
skimming thru this page right now
teron
does dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config work on ubuntu?
i think it should, since ubuntu is based on debian, not sure i never used ubuntu
you should end up with all the configs in /etc/exim4/
just grep for port forexample to find it in the configs
clever
it does work, but i think its only for the basic stuff
local relaying and incoming
but not backup mx/gateway
teron
yeah other then that i guess you will have to edit the config files
clever
yeah ive merged everything into an exim4.conf as one guide said
update-exim4.conf --keepcomments --output /etc/exim4/exim4.conf
with that
teron
ah right
ive not done that. i use the smaller config files
but i guess you should just need to exit that exim4.conf file and change the port then restart/reload
clever
what i think i need to do, is edit one of the macro's
so if the destination is @example.com, change the 'smart host relay' (and its port), and accept
teron
i cannot say, ive not done this before
berndj
i'm trying to make exim accept mail from *@seedspread.com if it comes via google, but "accept sender_domains = seedspread.com\n spf = pass\n set acl_m_accept = yes" doesn't seem to be enough. acl_m_accept short-circuits later RCPT-time checks. ideas?
[i don't see a pastebin for this channel - is there a preferred one?]
adegtyarev
hosts = 216.239.32.0/19 : 64.233.160.0/19 ... [and other google's adds]
clever
adegtyarev: got a link to any primer on the confusing macro syntax for exim?
adegtyarev
sorry I don't even understand your question
clever
trying to make sense of the config file
but it appears to have been designed to maximize headache output:P
adegtyarev
are you kidding ?
clever
route_list = * DCsmarthost byname
lines like this make almost no sense at all
smarthost:
debug_print = "R: smarthost for $local_part@$domain"
and bits like this, is it defining a function or running one?
berndj
no, listing google's IP addresses is unviable. we have an SPF record on seedspread.com that include:'s aspmx.googlemail.com
adegtyarev
berndj: hmm yes stupid me. so it seems that it should be enough, what it problem exists?
*what is the problem* i mean ..
berndj
it doesn't seem to set acl_m_accept, since it later fails in another rcpt acl which should be shortcircuited by the "= yes"
adegtyarev
no, it certainly should set acl_m_accept and process with it value in acl_check_rcpt
could you paste somewhere your example ?
berndj
http://pastebin.com/mc6a1840
on that server, a host -t txt seedspread.com. returns "v=spf1 include:aspmx.googlemail.com ~all"
adegtyarev
berndj: i've just tried - that config works exactly as expected
mail from <foo@seedspread.com> from gmail's addrs accepted to any rcpt
lets see what would be with -d+acl -bhc 209.85.222.199 ?
berndj
after i say "mail from:<admin@seedspread.com>" i see "check set acl_m_accept = yes, accept: condition test succeeded"
so i'm thoroughly confused
gah, this time i get 250 after rcpt
GRrraargh: DNS propagation delay! thanks for your help adegtyarev
adegtyarev
a-ha welcome
