sure, that makes advice much better, but it leaves one scratching their head about why there isn't simply a (compose-function where f g)
I mean, you could implement it in terms of add-function but that's madness.
holomorph
dash-functional save us??
fsbot
It is decidedly so
offby1
rudybot: tell us a tale of brave Ulysses
tali713
holomorph: a third party library doesn't fix emacs issues, it just lets users ignore them. compose is easy to write, but /since/ add-function is a thing, wouldn't it be /nice/ to have a compose-function that followed its style?
rudybot
offby1: why do the anglophones call the tale "Odyssey" and the character "Ulysses"?
holomorph
tali713: yes
offby1
rudybot: I dunno
rudybot
offby1: *shrug* i dunno how this is supposed to work. i've never messed with completion.

holomorph
tali713: do you know if the idea's been thrown at e-d before?
tali713
holomorph: no clue. I could look, I suppose.
holomorph
ugh :( http://paste.lisp.org/display/154809
i'm not sure how to make this cleaner. i have a column whose width i have depend on a tunable variable

hi - does anyone know how to get helm to rescan the list of emacs functiojns 'helm-M-x' ? I've defined some new functions and helm-M-x doesn't pick them up.
didi
smandy: I don't know helm, but just to check, did you defined them as commands, i.e. using (interactive)? `heml-M-x' looks a lot like M-x.

Hello emacs! After tali713 said that all dark themes suck, I started working on a proper jellybeans port. Would anybody contribute if I hosted this somewhere? http://i.imgur.com/N75umnW.png
didi
pdpp: I don't know about contributing, but why not putting it somewhere anyway?
holomorph
i'm sure it would get attention
pdpp
didi: Probably I will after I organize it a bit more
didi
pdpp: Cool.

(Action) wonders if the silly plot of the Ranpo Kitan anime is really from Ranpo Kitan's scripts
pdpp
Do I need to do something special to set a face that is undefined at the time of loading the theme? For example I use paren-face-mode, and I set the face that it defines in my theme file, but it does not seem to work.
ryouma
(Action) wonders if he should even find out what ranpo kitan is about
(Action) decides not

holomorph: (or anybody really) suggestions/improvements for nadvice backed compose-function? http://paste.lisp.org/display/154811
hmm, I /could/ make compose-function default to :filter-return.
holomorph
tali713
perhaps the signature should be (f . [[:where1 g1]...])
ryouma
"After 8.9 years, all subjects were significantly older"
The feature of common neighbours is considered to facilitate prediction and the link likelihood of a node pair is denoted as the conditional self-information of the event that the node pair is connected when their common neighbours are given.

Let's discuss "what is blogging."

it's hard to watch tutorials involving command line that don't use readline
holomorph
SO MANY STASHES

didi
readline is an weapon of the totalitarian.
ryouma
readline? what's that? is that something you can enable in shell mode?
(Action) wants readline in shell mode
tali713
which is better (compose-function f :place1 g1 g2 :place3 g3) or (compose-function f (:place1 g1) g2 (:place3 g3)) ? if you see what I mean.
parsnip
moar parens
tali713
parsnip: I really can;t decide, but I'll go with that.
holomorph
tali713: i guess that's pretty close to how add-function already works (parens + kwds)
ryouma
i have many shells open sometimes. i want a way to view the merged history of all of them. that is, i want to view a sequential list by time of the commands i entered into any of the shells. i don't care if this is done at emacs level or bash level. anybody found a solution? i'd prefer to retain also a per-session history.
holomorph
sounds terrifying
ryouma
i reserve only the worst for #emacs
didi
Is there a "right" way for using CSS to make lines use 80 characters at maximum?
Or shouldn't I bother?
parsnip
hmm, google search page is taking up more vertical space with elements.

hey, is there any haskell-mode user around that could tell me why upon trying to invoke haskell-interactive-mode, it keeps telling me: "Symbol's function definition is void: haskell-session-lookup"
it worked initially, but then I upgraded the glasgow haskell compiler from 7.6 to 7.8 and now I cannot start the interactive ghci session anymore
what I understand from the error is that there is still some previous haskell-mode session around which causes the trouble
parsnip
and you haven't restarted since the update?
dominik
no
I mean we haven't restarted the whole system
just linux
just *emacs
I feel like there is some caching issue involved here
initially it worked
but then updating the underlying ghc compiler caused the error
and now I cannot enter haskell-interactive-mode anymore.
btw., we're using haskell-mode 13.14.2
so, I'm not sure if that's a bug related to it
offby1
(Action) didn't know emacs could render .svg natively
escondida
offby1: Are you going on a svg journey to the hrt of the Amrcn drm?
didi
I still think Emacs handles images in a funny way.
pontiki
that it does anything with them is still amazing to me
didi
Why?
pontiki
it didn't back in 1984

didi
heliogabalus: I didn't think of fonts and as I am completely clueless regarding them, I won't.

Hey, does anyone know how to get back to the out-of-the-box color theme in emacs 24? I cycled using doremi and can't get back to whatever I started with.
didi
mson: M-x customize-themes
mson
Killing emacs does not help
grep72
why not just blast the pertinent lines in .emacs?
didi
mson: Although I don't know how you "cycled using doremi".
mson
Found the original in customize-themes! Thanks didi
didi
mson: np
mson
So far as I can tell, nothing was written to .emacs grep72
jlf
pontiki: aren't you thor heyerdahl's boat??
fsbot
I'm telling you, you don't want to know.
grep72
mson: oh well, just a thought from a super-noob ;-)
mson
From one to another lol
grep72
how do i ignore all these join and quit messages?
jlf
,dv erc-lurker-hide-list
fsbot
List of IRC type messages to hide when sent by lurkers.
A typical value would be '("JOIN" "PART" "QUIT").
See also `erc-lurker-p' and `erc-hide-list'.
You can customize this variable.
Defined in `/usr/share/emacs/24.4/lisp/erc/erc.elc'.

thanks fsbot and jlf
heliogabalus
rudybot: what if he chooses to ignore you?
rudybot
heliogabalus: goes back to hacking, chooses to ignore the imminent apocalypse
