All I did was `M-x customize-group RET znc-erc`, set my bouncer and login info, and I can login. It works well for me - I haven't had any issues.
wasamasa
heck, I'd be happy with ZNC for the logging feature alone
qDot_
Oh, https://github.com/sshirokov/ZNC.el ?
Huh. I wrote something similar to this.
Maybe I should just switch over to this.
lswart
wasamasa: What's the logging feature? I am still tramping into my server to view the logs...
wasamasa
lswart: well, it's just a module you load up that saves everything into log files
lswart: I do the same occasionally
lswart
qDot_: That looks like the one I am using
there should also be a znc package in melpa
wasamasa
I just set up circe, duh
benaiah
I use znc-erc as well
I don't remember what it does differently than erc, at this point I just use it because ido distinguishes "znc-erc" faster than "erc"

wasamasa: circe sounds cool, I'll give it a spin. For logging, I still have a bunch of little log files saved to my server - one for each channel, for each day. Is yours the same? I think it would be better to save the logs on a weekly/monthly basis rather than daily.
wasamasa
lswart: yeah, that's the way it is
lswart: I have writing an utility for turning these into a database on my TODO
lswart: then I could just do proper queries...
lswart
wasamasa: ooh, that'd be nice! I would totally follow that project.
I think others have the same issue: http://superuser.com/questions/805957/aggregate-znc-logs
wasamasa
lswart: it would of course be done in CHICKEN, so nobody would ever think of using it
benaiah
(Action) has two different places where logs are because he started out with an old version of znc and it used a different folder structure
wasamasa
lswart: alternatively, going for a ZNC module doing this would be easier I guess
lswart: then I could do the log processing thing for nginx
benaiah: yup, I was hit by this, too
benaiah: adjusting the old files to the new format was a major PITA
benaiah
znc might be the worst-documented thing I use on a daily basis
wasamasa: yeah I haven't bothered yet
wasamasa
lswart: yup, I could use python and write the information the logs provide to sqlite instead, then write a script to import old files into the db
lswart
wasamasa: Dang, I was just brushing up on my chicken

Are there any good common replacements for isearch?

wasamasa
in soviet russia, isearch replaces you
holomorph
aren't ace-jump-and-clones sort of isearchy things?
wasamasa
well, no
it's a different kind of movement
you specify a letter or two and tell emacs which occurrence it should specifically be of the ones visible on the screen
holomorph
oh
wasamasa
that's very different from just searching forward, backward or even beyond the file with isearch for a term
choki
do you all use acejump?
wasamasa
I've set it up once and from now on curse myself whenever I hit the keybind for it
because I don't like it at all
belak
I personally don't use ace jump. I'm not a huge fan.
wasamasa
a two-letter thing on a less common bind would be probably better
holomorph
wasamasa: oh btw, evil has a tunable evil-want-Y-yank-to-eol now
wasamasa
holomorph: nice
holomorph: I've written my own Y command for that
holomorph
wasamasa: that's why i'm telling you because i have read your init.org :P
wasamasa
yaya, I know
I should do things like converting advice to nadvice...
ryouma
there exists a package that does isearch flex matching. however, it does not do regexps.
by flex i mean separated things so you can do sera to get "separated"
so znc cannot be made to log by month? hmm, i'd really prefer that.
wasamasa
doubt it
Sketch
http://wiki.znc.in/Log
i would assume that if you just set a month in the time format, it would only generate one file for month
(i would say the znc core is not well documented, but most of the modules are)
wasamasa
hm
the_jest
A question about visual line mode: I see that it turns off the fringe indicator that normally shows wrapped lines. There's a question in the EmacsWiki about turning it on to see real newlines.
But what about the opposite solution: is there a way to have an indicator to show real newlines, instead of to show wrapped lines?
wasamasa
sounds slightly useless
because that would fill the entire fringe with indicators except at the few spots with wrapped lines
the_jest
If the document consists of paragraphs that are wrapped, it should show one indicator at the end of the paragraphs, as opposed to indicators on every line _except_ for this. Wouldn't that be better? (That's not a rhetorical question.)
benaiah
wasamasa: hahahaha, I was actually wanting this exact thing earlier because in my case the code wraps more often than not
wasamasa
benaiah: sounds painful
the_jest
Yeah, I'm talking about for text modes, not coding modes.
benaiah
(Action) 's laughing slowly transitions into sobbing
wasamasa
the_jest: ok, I see
still, I doubt that's possible given how the line continuation thing is baked in
the_jest
Hmm. There's no switch to make newline characters visible? (I couldn't find one, but I'd think this would be a reasonable need on occasion.)
benaiah
you could just change the faces so that the line continuation looked normal but normal lines stood out
or maybe you can't, I'm just assuming that you can change the line continuation stuff with faces

Hi.How to chnage keyboard layout to Programmer Dvorak
Windows 7
I allready installed the layout on windows, ultimatilly i wish to be changed automaticly when i open emacs
wasamasa
that's a windows issue
##windows is over there
thelisper
Ok. How to I change emacs keyboard layout to dvorak
wasamasa
don't
aidalgol
you don't, that's the OS's job
wasamasa
emacs gets the keybinds from the OS, so change it there
aidalgol
*job/responsibility

wasamasa: "that's a windows issue, ##windows is over there" was a bit snarky, though.

[1] Two novels can change a bookish fourteen-year olds life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other involves orcs.
