ryouma: [#A]. also, it turns red if it's past due.
benaiah: they do not exist.
taylanub
in a Makefile, how do I express that every *.html should be generated with a given rule?
ryouma
how do you make it not say "you suck EVEN MORE for not doing it"?
parsnip
ryouma: oops, missed the "not"
ryouma: press S, to reschedule randomly into the future.
ryouma
wasn't a technical question so much as a planning question
parsnip
huh?
ryouma
parsnip: never mind

parsnip: wdym by cool guy shoes? vans are pretty chic and pretty damn comfortable
fsvo chic
parsnip
benaiah: i'm adjusting... i've been wearing running shoes strictly for a bit.
wasamasa
oh sh*t, I got an actual response
parsnip
but yeah, i got the more minimal vans, with less padding around the ankle
benaiah
parsnip: ah yeah, that's what I have
parsnip
all black?
wasamasa
maybe eli secretly likes me
(Action) blushes
didi
u wish
parsnip
i had some black and grey eras, even the rubber trim was black and grey... my feet are too hobbit to want to wear white trimmed vans, and most of them are... they stopped making that black and grey.
ryouma

You will be misunderstood by everyone.

(Action) copies urls from his phone to his computer by opening them in chrome on one and checking the "other devices" tab list on the other one
there has to be a better way to do this
parsnip
benaiah: ah, i think the Era, and that one has padding around the ankle
benaiah
parsnip: I see
they were reaaally uncomfortable until I realized I tighten my laces way too much
parsnip
it appears to anyway, the toe stitchg looks same as mine, too lazy to confirm.
good choice, blue with the leather trim

benaiah
yeah, it's the same colors as my favorite tie
parsnip
haha, you wear them at same time?
benaiah
parsnip: rarely, but yes
parsnip
nice
benaiah
I don't have a whole lot of outfits that simultaneously warrant a tie and vans
parsnip
jeans and a blazer, but i think you have to be retired to do that.
taylanub
woop woop, my pages look amazing with this hipster CSS! http://taylanub.github.io/doc/scheme-values.html generated from MarkDown via a Makefile like http://sprunge.us/fFGe (thanks wasamasa)
wasamasa
taylanub: you're welcome
(Action) fought way too much with Make and did eventually go for a stupid build.sh
Fuco
make considered harmful
taylanub
nah, it's pretty cool for simple things
wasamasa
taylanub: if you like that kind of work, you surely could tell github to use jekyll or what its name was for generating pages for you
Fuco
no it isn't :D
benaiah
Fuco: the mafia's a big fan though
they use make as a training regimen
hence the term "made man"
taylanub
wasamasa: meh .. I'm exceedingly happy with my 7-line CSS from bettermotherfu*kingwebsite :P
benaiah
(Action) should write betterbettermotherfu*kingwebsite.com
ryouma
rudybot: does life imitate you?
rudybot
ryouma: I was joking to imitate how IRC and real life go sometimes, with a person bursting in and thinking he/she can learn an entire graduate-level course load in a month.
benaiah
there are graduate-level courses on IRC??
fsbot
Probably

Is there a way to reload all currently enabled modes in the current buffer?
JordiGH: Dang, I think I hit Ctrl-Enter instead of Enter. Sorry!
JordiGH
sdegutis_: Revert the buffer?
sdegutis_: Not you, Voltairee.
sdegutis_
JordiGH: well I don't want to reload contents from disk; I want to keep what it has now (it may be modified)

I'm using gnus for the first time (I want to read RSS feeds in emacs). M-x gnus says "Gnus v5.13", and according to the wiki, it should be 5.14. How can I update it?
JordiGH
cyphix: By updating emacs. But you're probably not missing much with such a minor difference in revision numbers.
cyphix
JordiGH: My emacs is up to date (normally). And when I launch gnus, I get an error: Warning: Opening nntp server on news...failed: >>> (error news/nntp Name or service not known); Server nntp+news previously determined to be down; not retrying; Opening nntp server on news...failed: >>> (error news/nntp Name or service not known); Server nntp+news previously determined to be down; not retrying.
benaiah
under what circumstances does erc replace the <> around nicks with --?
parsnip
cyphix: that's normal!
cyphix
I have no idea what this mean...
parsnip: Ah ok... :)
wasamasa
benaiah: notices I guess
parsnip
cyphix: do C-h v gnus-select-method, and you'll find the default is some silly value.
wasamasa
(Action) falls asleep
parsnip
"news" is not a know server ;)
cyphix: i have a "tutorial" which assumes you see that error
didi
(Action) draws on wasamasa's face
parsnip
cyphix
parsnip: indeed, "Its value is (nntp "news")"
parsnip: Thank you. I just discover gnus now, I have no idea how it works... I'l have a look at your link.
parsnip
cyphix: you can try gnus without setting up your config, and that link shows how you can plod through in this way.
it's the section titled "setting up gnus without modifying your init file" in case site shfits about.
(Action) shfits in seat uncomfortably
cyphix
parsnip: I get the correct page, it seems great!
benaiah

cyphix
parsnip: But I don't even know how RSS feeds work, so it seems it will take me a long time to get used to it :)
parsnip
cyphix: oh, i've never done rss feeds. but, ... i think i've seen some rss feeds in my setup. have you heard of gwene? you might be closer to this if you setup nntp with news.gmane.org for example.
cyphix
parsnip: I've heard of gwene somewhere, but now I'm trying to follow http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/GnusTutorial
parsnip: what do you use gnus for? Mails?
parsnip
but my knowledge is limited in the specifics of rss. but if you set up news.gmane.org as nntp, then when you're in the *Group* buffer, do A A to see al the groups.
cyphix: yes, nnimap, but i also use it for mailing lists, on nntp.
