I'm top elisp hacker according to that github statistics thing... feels good to be appreciated by a robot
benaiah
rudybot: quote
rudybot
benaiah: let's facebook
benaiah
rudybot: let's verbs
rudybot
benaiah: Let's re-specify mail transport in terms of HTTP verbs.
unver
it's already the post

barabara
benaiah : so what's the problem ?
offby1
rudybot: let's watusi
rudybot
*offby1: The ones I've used are "The Watusi", "The Twist", and the "Financial Imbalance"
kuribas
how do I load a svg file, *as text file*??
fsbot
Of course not!
didi
kuribas: You can hit C-c C-c while a buffer is visiting it.
kuribas
It's not editable...
didi
kuribas: Maybe you lack the permission?
I can edit mine.
kuribas
no
didi
Sorry, I don't know. You can hit C-x C-q, but I think there is another problem underlying it.
benaiah
barabara: I'm not sure, sorry. do you know where that function comes from?
from the description it sounds like you evaluated the function definition interactively
kuribas
It's kind of neat to view binary image files, but annoying I cannot edit the source of a svg file in emacs!
unver
i feel like i can edit the source of an svg in emacs
and i just did it, unless i'm missing something obvious
barabara
benaiah: what , interactivly , for sure not
benaiah: what does it mean interactivly in that contrext
benaiah
barabara: I mean it seems like you evaluated it interactively using eval-last-sexp (C-x C-e) or eval-region or something
unver
what is a wheelhouse?
wasamasa
it's certainly not a wgreenhouse!
barabara
benaiah: nope it wasn;'t the case, benaiah
unver
we have a chatroom at work where I can upload custom emoticons, e.g. (thumbsup) is a thumbs up image. What custom emoticon would you make?
wasamasa
a troll face

wgreenhouse
:D
I believe it's another word for the "bridge" of an old sailing ship. i.e. where the wheel is to steer it
unver
so the pilot needs to be in the wheelhouse to do his job
i think of emacs as a wheelhouse now
benaiah
I think of my house as an emacs now
e1f
and poop deck is not what you think it is
gnomon
I think it's _exactly_ what I think it is.
didi
A kitchen sink.
Does Emacs still ship with it?
I didn't find one on my installation, but http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/TheKitchenSink
offby1
wgreenhouse: off-topic, but wth .... so I'm building guix from source, following http://www.gnu.org/software/guix/manual/html_node/Installation.html#Installation ... and the first package I tried to install ("guix package -i glibc-locales") appears to be building ... the entire world. Like, libC, I think I saw a Linux kernel go by at one point ... is that normal?
rudybot
http://teensy.info/h7uk9dLcoO
offby1
e1f: I think the poop deck is covered in seagull poop
wgreenhouse
offby1: yes. :(
offby1
bah
hence the binary packages, I guess
wgreenhouse
offby1: not a kernl, no, but libc, yes
offby1: the package installs are meant to be entirely atomic
so it doesn't use anything from your system except to build guix itself
bremner
who knew there was limits to the whole free lunch concept
offby1
fair enough
wgreenhouse
offby1: and even then "guix pull" will use only the ones from guix, not your system's
the first run of that here took like 2 hours
admittedly, on a pathetic Atom netbook
offby1
bremner: well, I can only eat (say) three sandwiches at lunchtime, so there's a limit right there
bremner
slacker
offby1
but they're decent-sized, with condiments and everythign
didi
bremner: I thought there was no free lunch?
offby1
everything
bremner
offby1: you need a longer lunch.
offby1
(Action) hires bremner
didi
Or smaller sandwiches.
offby1
(Action) has didi forcibly removed from the venue
gnomon
(Action) hires didi while staring pointedly at offby1
offby1
(Action) dispatches industrial spies to discredit gnomon's organizataion
(Action) dispatches Mavis Bacon to teach him how to type again
gnomon
(Action) offers offby1's sandwiches to the spies
didi
(Action) starts playing the gameboy
gnomon
"Of course, we use the indefinite article - always '*the* GameBoy', never '*your* GameBoy'."
didi
"Organizataion" sounds like a mech warrior.
escondida
..."the" is the *definite* article
gnomon
escondida, DERP. I got the quote wrong.
ryouma
let's use lotr-like descriptions for people. "escondida the sharp-eyed".
escondida
heh
epithets for the win
offby1
(Action) has ryouma exiled
ryouma
i thought epithet was the right word, but then wordnet defined it in a way that made it seem not so. is that the correct term for fleet-footed mercury and all that?
escondida
Yup
It has two meanings
there's that meaning, and then there's "@$%#!"
ryouma
well at least you didn't say #$@@%Q"
escondida
heh
ryouma
that one is banned in this channel
(Action) needs a better dict
escondida
Which I *suspect* may have come to be its meaning because, back in the early 20th century, it was common for authors to avoid outright cursing, so they'd say things like "he muttered an epithet" instead of "he muttered 'that bastard'"
i.e., an epithet for the person being spoken to
Jerkface the Bastard
ryouma
can anybody think of more than one epithet in lotr?
there must be at least one "the fair" and such
escondida
You see them in a lot of the poetry and history
EƤrendil the Mariner, Gandalf Storm-Crow, Grima Worm-Tongue
ryouma
let's make dict(1) do web scraping
escondida
It already pulls from a lot of sites that also provide Web front-ends...
ryouma
so how come all i get is an old wordnet and an even older bouvier's and some dumb jargon thing despite dling all the packages i could?
escondida
*shrug*
ryouma
i want j-e, e-j, and good e-e
escondida
(Action) has dict...but also keeps her trusty OED handy
