sbrg: nah, according to my org files I only spent 37:39 on pimping org (plus about 10 hours years ago when I gave up on it because I percieved it too difficult)
sbrg: in comparison, I've spent 70:36 on dired :P
didi
Today, at seven, new Fuco's show: Pimp My Org.
sbrg
Fuco: hahaha
benaiah
jwm: my only extant emacs package is a thin wrapper to make interactively changing emacs transparency easier
Fuco
and I have to say my org config is rather insane, over 1700 lines of elisp
sbrg
is anyone here using org mode for calendar stuff? I just used the ics2org script, and then tagged all the entries in the generated file with a certain tag. now I would like to pull this up in a calendar-ish view of some sort. any tips?
offby1
(Action) waves hand dismissively
Fuco
plus about 15000 lines of redefined elisp from org itself :D

wasamasa
sbrg: use calfw-org
sbrg
Fuco: wow.
Fuco
I tried calfw but it was very unemacsy
wasamasa
,nosh*t

You need no longer worry about the future. This time tomorrow you'll be dead.
unver
dang.
didi
unver: Bots have a terrible notion of time, so don't worry.

fsbot: are you drunk again?
fsbot
Nooo! Possible overly long search. Bailing.

heh
rudybot: on what day of the week did Christmas fall in 1066?
rudybot
*offby1: (of 1066)
offby1
yes ...
sbrg
wasamasa: sweet. is calfw already in emacs?
wasamasa
,laugh

BAAAAHAHAHAHAH HaHAHAA HA HA HHHHA AH *snort* HA HHA HAHAHA HA HAH HAH HAH HAHAH HAH HAH oh man HAH AH HAAAAAHAAAHHH *cough* *cough* *cough* hah hehhh hehhhhh geez.. *cough*

Fuco
calfw is antique japanese elisp
wasamasa
^
offby1
calfw is like veal, but tougher
wasamasa
then, so it auto-complete
*is
benaiah
Fuco: why *is* that such a common thing?
wasamasa
its author doesn't know of overlays
Fuco
I bet it retains compatibility with emacs 21
sbrg
so I don't want calfw-org?
Fuco
,tias
fsbot
Try it and see! (then tell us what you saw)
wasamasa
if you actually use the popup.el library, you'll notice that it modifies your buffer
macrobat
calfw is like QWOP, but you have an extra set of calves
holomorph
lol
wasamasa
lol
benaiah
lol
elation1
Fuco: what is the proper alternative to calfw
wasamasa
there is none
Fuco
diary.el
wasamasa
use a sh*tty package or write your own equally sh*tty one
kovrik
does org-mode have a calendar?
Fuco
I wouldn't mind the agenda rendered in a style a la google calendar, but that's about it
wasamasa
it's calendars, damnit, nobody gets these good
sbrg
wasamasa: :(
wasamasa
not even google
why can't time be metric
offby1
the problem with calendars is: iCal :-|
a very nasty format
Fuco
the problem is that you have stupid nonprop. font and can't fit any relevant info in the little boxes
so it looks like crap
wasamasa: the week box interface of google is... well, good enough
before that I used excel and colored the cells :/
now that was annoying
unver
What's better than iCal? it's a troublesome spec, but I don't know any better
offby1
unver: me neither
however, I do enjoy complaining
sbrg
actually, I think org-agenda-fortnight-view is enough for me
Fuco
god I really hate the syntactic ambiguity of english... spent 10 minutes on the stupid exercise reading it all wrong :D
offby1
rudybot: please mainsplain that exercise to Fuco
rudybot
*offby1: There is an exercise in HtDP where you write a function to add nodes to a bst, the function create-bst takes a bst, a number, and a symbol.
offby1
er
rudybot: please mansplain that exercise to Fuco
rudybot
*offby1: mansplain mmkay
mrmyers
~$ man splain
parsnip
the state of calendars and contacts is crap... profit
offby1
rudybot: does "mansplain" mean "an explanation suitable for a man" (whom, as we all know, are dumb); or does it mean "a condescending explanation, as one given by a man to a woman"?
rudybot
*offby1: mansplain mmkay
offby1
(Action) fidgets
mrmyers: I see here that the Rain in Spain has fallen mainly in "man splain"
unver
sounds like someone hurt thier spleen

anyone have any ideas for the way to diagnose ERC not fontifying the buffer at all?
didi
M-x font-lock-mode
offby1
not me :-|
dakrone
font lock is enabled, syntax highlighting works everywhere except for ERC
offby1
fonts & faces have been around for ages, but I've never really understood them
dakrone
and it's weird because it looks like it's fontified for a small time, then suddenly everything turns to white
every time I put a message in, it's in color, then suddenly de-fontifies

[0] If starting emacs with "emacs -q" fixes the problem, it's YOUR FAULT; check your .emacs. If "emacs -q" has problems but "emacs -Q" doesn't, blame your distro or local admin.
[1] it's also possible that you have triggered a bug rather than introduced one. but that is a low-frequency event.
didi
"your fault"... such blaming very point wow
dakrone
okay, just wanted to know if there was a "fontlock-verbose-mode" or "fontlock-debug" that existed
