blaenk_
wgreenhouse: the thing is Iw ant to make sure this doesn't run _every time_ I create a frame, only when I do a new emacsclient. I saw mention of a server-running-p, that sounds like it'll at least prevent it from running when it's a full-on emacs session
but I'd further like to restrict it to running only one time per-emacsclient, i.e. not every time I create a new frame in a given emacsclient
not sure if that makes any sense
wgreenhouse
it does make sense but it's probably going to be tricky unfortunately
blaenk_
ahh
I guess I'll just keep it this way then
wgreenhouse
you could write your own one-shot hook function that removes itself after it runs once, but then you'd need to make sure it ran only for the first real graphical frame, not the daemon socket "frame"
blaenk_
ahhh
yeah I guess it's more trouble than it's worth, thanks again I'll give this a shot
Nafai
I was trying to do something similar (the one shot frame thing)
I need to get back on getting that working
wgreenhouse
it's a bit irritating, there isn't a hook specific to new emacsclient frames yet

(Action) resurrects slack.el
jlf
wgreenhouse: server-create-window-system-frame ?
(via advice)

Nafai
jlf: Hrm, I'll look at that
jlf
or you might could set something up with window-system-initialization-alist too

if org-odt-export-to-odt says it acts on current buffer, and i want to call it from a babel block, shoudl i try using with-current-buffer?
blaenk
does this stand out as blatantly wrong to you guys? cause it doesn't seem to be working, hmm https://gist.github.com/blaenk/31c4e10ad4f4bc9832c0
I guess I could just make that 'blaenk/load-theme, reduced it from something else
still that shouldn't be the reason it doesn't work afaik
ohhh okay, I think I need to select-frame
cvandusen
akkad
nope
but interesting, mine is maybe a bit further
his is better code though...
cmack
Has anyone used universal-ctags (http://ctags.io) successfully with emacs?
ack006
well, at least i've got nodejs error regexp working, also in shell mode with compilation-minor-mode
*compilation-shell-minor-mode (dang workrave microbreaks!)
parsnip
any ideas how to elisp this so that i'm not affecting the view of buffers?
(with-current-buffer (find-file "./file.org") (org-ascii-export-to-ascii))
wgreenhouse
parsnip: change `find-file' to `find-file-noselect'
parsnip: `find-file' raises the buffer, `find-file-noselect' does not
parsnip
wgreenhouse: thank you!
woohoo!
wgreenhouse
parsnip: yw. goes to show how unSchemey we are, that the side-effect-free version gets the longer and awkwarder name
in a scheme `find-file-noselect' would probably be called `find-file' and `find-file' (the buffer-focusing-as-side-effect one) would be called `find-file!'
or something
gopar
is there a way of saying pass arg1 to function if arg1 is non-nil else just call the fuction by itself?
without using an if statement
kovrik
gopar: you can always pass it into function, make it optional and do all checks inside function
wgreenhouse
gopar: you could use `apply' or `funcall'

ack006: re three hours ago: OS X comes with a program called "say" that sends text to the voice; if you send it enough text, the voice will pause for breath at spots.
wgreenhouse
offby1: I remember back in OS Classic days, the text-to-speech subsystem had some incredible comedy voices
does it still?
parsnip
like jerry lewis's voice?
gopar
kovrik, wgreenhouse thanks I figured it out :p
ack006
wgreenhouse: ah the dectalk days, yay!
wgreenhouse: ah you mean the fruit seller (no offence), thought you meant the classic os days, i.e. dos and stuff

wgreenhouse
ack006: I don't consider there to be anything "classic" about DOS :-P
offense intended
parsnip
(Action) ducks errant tomato
ack006
wgreenhouse: CP/M then? ITS?
don't think these had (affordable) TTS back then
wgreenhouse
ack006: ITS counts as classic, DOS and CP/M are both basically in the same "oh gods, why did these even happen?" category
but yes, I meant m68k and PPC Macintoshes' speech
ack006
wgreenhouse: could those voices sing?
wgreenhouse: dectalk could (and still can, if you're able to get one)
wgreenhouse
ack006: after a fashion, I wouldn't really call it singing
ack006
wgreenhouse: ah, connoiseur
wgreenhouse
but they could follow cues about changing pitch
offby1
wgreenhouse: there are a bunch of voices, but I haven't run across any that are funny
wgreenhouse
offby1: there used to be some really screwball ones
offby1
oh wait, there's loads

cube`: I suspect that something you're doing _after_ loading the init file is allowing the theme to load
have you tried --debug-init?
Have you tried turning it off, and turning it back on?
Have you tried prayer?

Just ask your question. It's the best way to know if anyone can help.

Hastouki: C-c i is undefined
Hastouki
yeah, imenu wiki suggest I map an elisp func that refreshes imenu to that
miskatonic
the latest versions of firefox hardly support important addons such as pentadactyl
goglosh
in erc it tries to change mode for the channel
Hastouki
i just don't know what the hell it is
http://emacswiki.org/emacs/ImenuMode#toc4
ok, never mind, my mistake
it was refreshing, but the method was actually a C function, so Class::... wasn't showing it
oops

I did not know that my font can display the characters just employed by brainwas
akkad
is there an easy way to convert \n -> %0D%0A? replace-string able to do this?

if you have template.tex -> completed.tex -> completed.pdf, what are better nomenclatures than i have there?
akkad
,tex2pdf
fsbot
If you can read this, you're too close.
proq
is there functionality to assist with typing greek letters in emacs with a US keyboard, or do I have to resort to finding web pages for each letter in UTF8 one by one, copying and pasting into my buffer?
wgreenhouse
proq: emacs has its own input methods
for example C-\
