zenting
so I just turned on windmove-default-keybindings to use shift+arrow to move around different frames, which is a big improvement to C-x o. Is there a way to change from the arrow keys to WASD or something similar?
slugobers
O_o
testerbit
jkaye, the end of the in whitespace-mode shows \$, what does that mean?
jkaye
testerbit: Newline
Lis
zenting, you have to you a global-set-key and unbind all previous definitions first https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/elisp/Key-Binding-Commands.html see http://scm.mathematek.de/index.cgi/emacside/artifact/c5edd73524a603e0 for an example. the latter one rebinds key output on a windows tablet which would not be avaliable without that

testerbit
jkaye, based on what I'm seeing in whitespace-mode there is nothing that seems to indicate irregular whitespace
jkaye
testerbit: Are you sure, then, that there is in fact whitespace in the file? Could it be some kind of unicode character?
Lis
zenting, instead of insert you would have to use previous-line etc.

testerbit
jkaye, emacs is indicating irregular whtiespace and stash shows it as well on the first line of the file.
Lis
i just noted #emacs shrunk to 900 from 1100 people
why is that?
blackwind_123
noob hydra question: does hydra key letters are single letters only... or can i use multi letter...?
miskatonic
maybe anetsplit?
fsbot: botsnack
fsbot
(Action) dances happily
reactormonk
Any way I can control which emacs daemon emacsclient connects to - is it possible to run multiple emacs daemons at all?
slugobers
mm, is there any easy way to go to function definition at point, sort of like M-x ffap?
miskatonic
fsbot: there can be only one
fsbot
:( Possible overly long search. Bailing.
miskatonic
there can be only one
legumbre
ville: I'm back. Yes, I'm only enabling/disabling an existing breakpoint. I thought that what you were after; setting a new breakpoint or deleting an existing one should be easy to do by checking what C-x C-a C-b and C-x C-a C-d do.
reactormonk
ah, via emacs --daemon=foo and --dameon=bar
ville
legumbre: yeah i managed to do it. the only piece i was missing was the overlay kludge to check whether to call -break-insert or -break-delete; http://codepad.org/mKoag0HL
legumbre
ville: great
blackwind_123
HAIL HYDRA :) just loving it... :)
ville
never even knew such thing as overlays existed. feels like a kludge. there should be real interface by the gud module or something
buhman
hail hydrate
hodapp
buhman: oh gawd, it's you
buhman
what did I do to be recognizable?
e1f
there will never be peace in the middle east, with or without emacs

hodapp
buhman: you're probably guilty of something in #archlinux
ville
also can you tell i am a c++ programmer by the ) placement. hah
buhman
treason
proq
there will never be peace on the internet, with or without emacs
buhman
I'm surprised #archlinux still exists
miskatonic
why should #archlinux not exist?
legumbre
ville: :-)
ville
slugobers: what language?
slugobers
ville: elisp
proq
actually, who needs the internet when you have emacs
e1f
,seen qdot
fsbot
seen qdot
e1f
.seen qdot
ville
slugobers: wouldn't know then.
qDot_
What.
e1f
emacs.porn is still available
qDot_
Yeah but isn't it expensive?
slugobers
rudybot: seen qDot_
rudybot
slugobers: qDot_ was seen in #emacs fifty-five seconds ago, saying "What.", and then qDot_ was seen in #emacs twenty-six seconds ago, saying "Yeah but isn't it expensive?"
miskatonic
how to pronounce "slugobers"?
e1f
oh i don't know. the discussion started with whether emacs.wtf was available
qDot_
I think the porn/xxx domains are like, hundreds each.
e1f
wow
slugobers
miskatonic: it's just a quick nickname for this channel, i never use it anywhere else. and will probably change it here too
ville: actually, M-. just works in elisp
offby1
rudybot: later tell miskatonic I produced those musical scores by first studying at Julliard, then devoting my life to the art of composition. I consider Bach, Stockhausen, and Cage to be my mentors.
rudybot
*offby1: I asked MemoServ' to forward the message to miskatonic.
parsnip
is this insanity? now that i have jinja2 creating my latex resume, i'm going to now do jinja2 -> .org -> .odt -> .docx !!??
fsbot
Improbable
parsnip
,botsnack
fsbot
yay!
blackwind_123
hi all. how to use arrow keys in place of hydra keyletters...
slugobers
parsnip: you should just write a .docx emacs major mode, obviously
proq
a python template engine creating latex?? well I never
parsnip
proq: heh, thoughts on this?
proq
parsnip: sounds fun, but I've never tried it :)
e1f
offby1: but you still don't know how to get to carnegie hall
kofzyb
is there a way to let rcirc automatically render latex or utf-8 symbols (like show \rightarrow as a arrow)?
e1f
utf-8 symbols should be displayed by default by emacs
unless you buffer is in a weird encoding
if there is a minor mode that displays \rightarrow as arrow, then enable that mode in rcirc buffer
kofzyb
what is the minor mode I should toggle?
parsnip
kofzyb: somehow org-mode has this functionality, via pretty print of something.
*or
kofzyb
I tried M-x org-toggle-pretty-entities but don't work
parsnip
kofzyb: well, i never thought it would work like /that/, but i think that suggests it's ,,possible,, i just don't hack that far in emacs at present ;)
fsbot
No, it's trivial!
kofzyb
I also believe emacs can do that
but the manual doesn't have a clue
tekkkz
hey! how to hexedit with emacs?
wasamasa
don't
use an actual hexeditor
blackwind_123
hi all. how to use arrow keys in place of hydra keyletters...
tekkkz
wasamasa, why not?
wasamasa
tekkkz: because hexl-mode sucks
tekkkz
yeah thats right :D
wasamasa
maybe nhexl-mode sucks less
anyhow, same problem applies to csv editing
kofzyb
wasamasa: that need weechat client, is there a mode in native emacs can do that?
wasamasa
kofzyb: if you'd have read this carefully, you'd known which mode in emacs does that...
kofzyb: anyhow, it's probably overall better to use any of the prettification modes
kofzyb: as it's faster and integrates better for single characters
kofzyb
wasamasa: I'll go to read it
defaultxr
can anyone tell me how to make display-buffer always use a different window and never the one i'm using? it seems that if the other window's buffer name starts with "*", then display-buffer will not use that window
wasamasa
customize display-buffer-alist'
defaultxr
i've tried that
wasamasa
or use a package offering an easier interface on top of that
defaultxr
i use purpose-mode
