ldlework: thanks, I was getting to a complicated issue. Macros are simpler, I'll do them ;-)
wasamasa
parsnip: http://emacshorrors.com/post/over-engineered-code-is-over-engineered
parsnip: wrote up my thoughts on this
parsnip
wasamasa: nice, will tweet
wasamasa
the real wtf is of course how the emacs command loop is implemented, not this
spoiler: it starts with a recursive edit
then goes through a few layers until the interactive spec is grabbed
but it's not as simple to make fun of
C-Keen
wasamasa: maybe it's a leftover abd has been added for historical reasons
wasamasa
all the non-trivial examples of a command loop I've seen were similarly messy
Fuco
ah, a new horror is up? ... lemme see
wasamasa: people, not persons
it's a special kind of tribe... they aren't persons!
C-Keen
heh
wasamasa
lalala

Fuco
wasamasa: (interactive (gnus-interactive "P\ny")) you found the magic pony, congrats
this IS NOT AN ACCIDENT
wasamasa
lol
fixed it because I love Fuco uber alles

er, http://emacshorrors.com/post/chirp-chirp
nice
wasamasa
we need more lisp obfuscation techniques!
Fuco
cl-macrolet is not good enough for you?
you can do wonders with that, just look at... eieio
wasamasa
maybe write bytecode directly...
qDot_
Sketch: Holy sh*t that is fu*ked up.
wasamasa
nadvice.el does that
Fuco
so, my potatoes and brocolli with cheese ended up to be cheese with shrooms...
holomorph
i wonder why all the little things in eww like history, bookmarks, etc don't use tabulated-list-mode
Fuco
sigh, I knew I should have followed the recipe
parsnip
does emacs have something like python's deocrators? is that what advice is?
bpalmer
holomorph: because then how could they use org-mode ?
parsnip: not a half bad way of thinking of it.
holomorph
bpalmer: wat
bpalmer
parsnip: you could also compare it to aspect oriented programming
holomorph: all data must be orged. That is a moral imperative.
parsnip
bpalmer: i've heard of this. in C++?
holomorph
bpalmer: is that synonymous to nihed??
fsbot
I'm telling you, you don't want to know.
bpalmer
parsnip: usually common lisp or java.
(Action) looks at aspectC++
parsnip
wtf, aspect oriented programming is patented

IbrahimA
random thought, is there a way to have reftex-citation insert a bibliography string instead of an actual \cite command?
trying to use org mode for taking notes for research and i feel like it would be more convenient if i just had sections for each document with the title and authors listed rather than just the abbreviated name
mrmyers
I tried using rmail on a lark, but it's moved all my mail somewhere, and mutt just shows up empty
wasamasa
so you've resorted to customizing gnus to be your mail client?
mrmyers
Is there a way I can just undo rmail taking my inbox hostage?
wasamasa
pray to RMS
rmail should have been named rmsmail in retrospect
mrmyers
X-(
wasamasa
I jest, there surely must be other people using it
mrmyers
"If you run rmail from within Emacs, it will reformat your mail spool and move your email into a file named RMAIL or INBOX in your home directory."
bpalmer
IbrahimA: interesting. I normally find it more convenient in (La)TeX to use memorable keys in BibTeX -- among other things, if you're working in an area dominated by a handful of big names, trying to remember which article by John Smith is which is annoying.
this often involved renaming things from the convenient copy and paste

Hello everyone, got a simple question if anyone can help...
holomorph
,ask
fsbot
Just ask your question. It's the best way to know if anyone can help.
slugobers
but what if no-one can?
trevize
how to map a key to show the files on an specific folder
like opening dired on a certain folder
wasamasa
slugobers: then there will be silence
trevize: write a command doing that, then bind it to the right keymap
trevize
like a bash command
emacs /home/....
?
wasamasa
(defun my-open-pr0n () (interactive) (dired "~/pr0n"))
(global-set-key (kbd "C-c p") 'my-open-pr0n)
aidalgol
offby1: prod.
trevize
ok, sounds good wasamasa ... i'm going to try it
in fact I want a link to THAT folder.... he he ;)
thank you
wasamasa
(Action) gasps
slugobers
emacs doesn't seem to be able to display videos, just tried on my porn collection
wasamasa
bummer
guess that's one more on the todo before world domination can be achieved
offby1
aidalgol: dev.
Has nobody noticed that e1f is here?!
(Action) pokes and prods

slugobers
let's declare 2016 the year of emacs on desktop
JordiGH
offby1: Huh, when did you notice?
I thought he hated Emacs and GNU now.
Designed Emacs logo, vanished forever.
offby1
JordiGH: couple hours ago
JordiGH
e1f: How's the McLife?
offby1
Wait -- he's making burgers?
IbrahimA
bpalmer: that's true, that's why i want to insert the full title
tbh i can probably script that
too lazy to figure it out right now
JordiGH
offby1: He's a McUser.
And he was very proud of it.
He had a whole blog dedicated to his McConversion.
wasamasa
(Action) checks the atom clients fetching his blog
