If the cursor is after the closing paren, C-M-b will move to the corresponding opening paren

aren't these too many key strokes
C-r p is okay.. but what key you hit to start editing. enter?
forcer
If the cursor is within the parens, C-M-u will move "up" in the expression to the opening paren.
parsnip
adgtl: not sure, maybe C-SPC C-SPC
adgtl
C-M-b is specific as there are parenthesis
Do we need to hit enter after C-r or C-s when match is found
atmc
parsnip: it seems on the first load they all get subscribed
adgtl
what key do you use to stop when cursor is at desired match position?
forcer
adgtl: Yes, RET

parsnip
jeez, i've actually been wondering that for a long time
adgtl
forcer: RET is fine.. but it's too far from home keys
Is there any alternate key similar to RET?
parsnip
RET is bound to isearch-exit there
adgtl
parsnip: okay
btw. what irc client do you use?
I am using circe right now
parsnip
erc
adgtl
It's simpler
parsnip: is erc better than circe?
if anyone knows about circe.. what additional feature it has?
parsnip
no, they are different
atmc
parsnip: any idea?
parsnip
i forget how. i think circe is maybe somehwere between erc and rcirc.
atmc: you use AA to see subscriptions?
forcer
adgtl: https://github.com/jorgenschaefer/circe#features
The main feature Circe has over ERC is sane defaults :-D

why are there 3 subscriptions? :D
parsnip
atmc: you sure you don't have more gnus settings somewhere in your config?
atmc
no

Do you use org-mode for presentation without beamer?
I mean I just want to show organized notes to attendees

Hi, I am configuring emacs on windows at the moment and I ran cask install from ~/.emacs.d. Now when I run M-x eval-buffer from my init.el, emacs complains that Cask cannot be found in .emacs.d. I want emacs to look for Cask in ~/.emacs.d/.cask/Cask. How is this done?

parsnip: and I've found another bug :D
dustfinger
fsbot: The error that I see is: cask file does not exist. Somewhere I had seen to use (require 'cask "~/emacs.d/.cask/cask.el") followed by (cask-initialize). I will try to add the path to my loadpath instead.
fsbot
BEEEP: Possible overly long search. Bailing.
parsnip
atmc: a ~/.newsrc or so? what OS?
Fuco
dustfinger: cask file is the "Cask" file which describes your dependencies
dustfinger: if you don't have that then you don't really need cask
simon
hi. I had a problem with my dead keys in Emacs. so I ran (require 'iso-transl) and now my dead keys are almost too eager. if I just hit tilde, it won't let me press space to get a stand-alone tilde, but will still let me write ñ or ã, etc.
dustfinger
Fuco: I have a cask file in my ~/.emacs.d/.cask/ directory, but emacs is looking for it in ~/.emacs.d/. I just wanted to configure emacs to look for it in the .cask directory instead.
atmc
parsnip: linux
parsnip: i regularly delete .newsrc etc after config changes
parsnip
how does ~/Mail/ look ?
simon
does anyone know how to enable ~s?
parsnip
and ~/.newsrceld or whatnot
atmc
parsnip: Mail does not exist
i have no local mail
simon
(the same thing goes for ticks and backticks. I can only type the accent signs, not the ticks by themselves. I suppose this is because iso-transl, but what is the alternative?)
Fuco
dustfinger: I don't think you can do that, and even if you could, why?
parsnip
atmc: test in extra user account or virtual machine?
atmc
parsnip: ill fire up a docker
simon
without iso-transl, it says dead-tilde and dead-acute are undefined.
dustfinger
Fuco: It just seemed to make sense to me to have my Cask config file in the .cask directory. If this is not possible, then that is okay, I will just move it to the standard location.
forcer
As far as I know, cask creates the .cask directory in the same directory where the Cask file is
atmc
parsnip: works as expected... hmmm
so there must be something cached anywhere
simon
oh, (XMODIFIERS='' emacs) does it.
parsnip
atmc: C-h v gnus-select-method ?
atmc: you use any of .netrc, .authinfo, .authinfo.gpg?
atmc
no
not yet
parsnip
that's fine. just wondering if an extra account were hiding in them.
atmc
ok now it works
it seems i shouldn't add @gmail... to my username
wow, this works pretty good

Anyone using Geiser and Guile? Trying to figure out if I can make it not switch buffers on errors.
As in, I have a two windows, Guile REPL and Guile code. If I C-x C-e and it throws an error, the window with the Guile code switches to the REPL buffer.
bremner
do you know if that's specific to guile somehow, or it does it also with racket or chicken?
csed
bremner: Haven't tried it with anything else. Lemme get Racket and I'll let you know in a few.
bremner
hrm. maybe I don't know the right kind of error, but it _seems_ to stay in the file buffer with racket
you could also try #geiser, I guess
csed
Oh, there's a #geiser? Awesome.
(strinaaag-appen "asd" "Asd")
For instance.
Same for racket.
bremner
oh, compile errors. okey, was thinking runtime
