Is interactive what I'm looking for if I want to prompt "root path: *current buffer path here*" if someone doesn't provide an optional argument to my function?
hodapp
rudybot: why was my last 'git push' 666 bytes?
rudybot
hodapp: But according to Wikipedia, JIS doesn't use those bytes either.

I'm using evil mode, and I've used custom-set-variables to set evil-intercept-maps and evil-overriding-maps to nil. However, I still can't use hjkl to navigate though the list-packages menu. Any ideas?
sbrg
jumblemuddle: I could do that without any configuration, hm
jumblemuddle
sbrg: How so?
sbrg
jumblemuddle: As in, I just installed evil-mode and set it up as I wanted without having to do any special stuff for navigation with hjkl in list-packages
escondida: thanks
jumblemuddle
sbrg: Oh, gotcha. I suppose emacs just hates me.

How did you install it? The 'quick install' method on emacswiki.org/emacs/Evil?
sbrg
just via list-packages iirc
jumblemuddle
sbrg: lol
Hmm, ok
sbrg: You running the stable or live version?
sbrg
jumblemuddle: not sure -- list-packages says 20150619-1252
jumblemuddle
sbrg: Ok, thanks

I want to run a function after I save the buffer, but only for certain modes. Should I be using advice here?
ryouma`
can you make the hook buffer-local instead?
or test for the modes in your hook
sbrg
ryouma`: is there an after-save hook? I tried looking, couldn't find anything
i would prefer adding it to the buffers locally yes
i read that advices are regarded as last resorts before modifying the actual source code

oh. I was probably in C-h f
ryouma`: looking up after-save-hook it says "variable may be risky if used as a file-local variable" .. Should I just ignore this?
ryouma`
sbrg: yes
buffer local and file local are different; riskiness refers to trojans in your files
(mostly)
sbrg
ah
ryouma`
i think it is warning you that if you make a file-local with it, it might not get set due to security settings, or something
sbrg
how do I actually make it local for a certain mode? define a function that does (setq-local after-save-hook '(my-function)) and add it as a hook for that particular mode?
ryouma`
,,df make-variable-buffer-local
