From memory, flymake is [0] at http://flymake.sourceforge.net
[1] at http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/FlyMake,
[2] comes with emacs 23 and newer
ryouma
these things need to say what they are
,flycheck is also syntax checking

Added note for term "flycheck"

Can I increase my font overall and not just on a per-buffer basis?

"Enhance your Razer Abyssus experience with Synapse, Razers cloud-based hardware configurator with online cloud support."
wgreenhouse
ryouma: why does a mouse have a network-aware config thingy?
basphemy
magit makes me hate git 100% less
that alone was worth the move to emacs, that thing should be the default git interface for the actual git project
also the seamless gpg integration has made encrypt-by-default life go from "*sigh**type type type*" to a completely unintrusive workflow experience, so god bless whoever did that epa sh*t
ryouma
wgreenhouse: because it's the online cloud! and because you're an elite gamer who wants to take your mouse with you to competitions, and oh i have no idea. and it's in the cloud!
basphemy: new magit or old?
wgreenhouse
ryouma: oic it's so your mouse settings travel with you even when you're borrowing another computer at a lan party wait wat
wasamasa
Naeblis: M-x set-frame-font

basphemy
ryouma: im on 2.1.0
wasamasa
funny how a face remapping hack is the default option presented to you for increasing the font size interactively
ryouma
wasamasa: that sets it overall?
wasamasa
ryouma: yes
ryouma
and saves it?
wasamasa
no
it's for purely interactive purposes if you can be bothered tab-completing through XFLDs
ryouma
surely it is only for one frame?
wasamasa
or was it XLFDs?
perhaps, not like I'm using more than one frame
ryouma
isn't there a font chooser that shows examples?
inside emacs
wasamasa
don't be silly

ryouma
wasamasa: Naeblis: menu-set-font
although that might be for only the buffer or something
wasamasa
so that's why emacs comes with gtk support...
basphemy
that and sweet icon packs yo

wasamasa: your init.org is really nice

Naeblis: and complicated things way too simple
confused expectations overall
ham-peas
uh
#emacs makes simple things way too complicated
Naeblis
literally every other app I have to do ctrl + and ctrl - to incr/decr font
:(
ham-peas
ffs just customize the default face, everything else inherits from it
wasamasa
Naeblis: you can C-x C-+ and C-x C--
Naeblis
yeah but that only works in one buffer
wasamasa
so?
not like browsers have more than one current buffer either
ham-peas
right, if you want it to apply globally, you do it by setting the scale property of the default face
wgreenhouse
ham-peas: yes, but there are multiple options to do even that. set-face-attributes, customize-face, and xresources to name a nonexhaustive three
Naeblis
so I'm switching b/w 3 buffers quickly and increase font in one, I expect it to maintain the same when I switch back.
ham-peas
Naeblis: well, ok, that's not going to happen
ryouma
ham-peas: not the height or whatever?
Naeblis
clearly
ham-peas
ryouma: height, yeah
ryouma
Naeblis: ham-peas gave you a suggestion that works. unfortunately, it is not as interactive as it should be, but it works.
wasamasa
I could of course try writing a version of M-x set-frame-font that works in steps
and then go to bed
ham-peas
Naeblis: what exactly do you want? do you want to set a zoom for the window, so that whatever buffer you happen to be displaying in that window is shown at whatever zoom level you've set?
ryouma
what we need is something that can save the settings and also make it overall or frame or buffer yet show examples
ham-peas
b/c i'm not actually sure that's possible in gnu emacs, one of the few but longstanding ways in which it still comes up short against xemacs is the lack of window-level face settings
as i learned to my dismay when i tried to implement background shading so it'd be easier to tell which window had the focus in a large frame
Naeblis
ham-peas: pretty much yeah
ryouma
Naeblis: you can probably do frame but probably not window
wasamasa
(Action) did just look at the definition of that function

what's available in elisp for juggling bignums
or what's the preferred bignum juggler in elisp anyways
wasamasa
Naeblis: yay, I've got it
basphemy: all I've seen was people using calc
Naeblis
wasamasa?

basphemy
ah ok
ham-peas
http://nic.ferrier.me.uk/blog/2012_08/bignums-with-emacslisp
tl;dr it's all done in terms of calc
ryouma
basphemy
cool thanks sirs/lady-sirs
wasamasa
(Action) is sort of shocked that both calc and bigint.el use strings internally
like PHP
z0d
omg
wasamasa
this must be terribly slow
z0d
and not a good design
wasamasa
maybe I should look at how emacs-cl does it
