benaiah
hey, bossman, please stop making fu*king copy edits and whitespace changes to random parts of the css file unrelated to your commits, forcing me to tediously copy over your changes to my scss version because you're too much of a luddite to put something in the repo that requires a preprocessor
thanks
(Action) goes and changes the capitalization of a bunch of comments

ryouma: yes; wgreenhouse: also yes

can color be added to emacs-w3m modeline variables ? i wanted to make SSL modeline indication green, w3m-modeline-ssl-status-off is propertized, but it shows no color. Can anyone help, please ?

I am trying to enable flycheck; not sure I understand the error I'm getting when I launch emacs -- https://gist.github.com/anonymous/4ff52d6cb9de2c088083#file-init-el-L80 . There is an after-init-hook to register global-flycheck-mode but the error seems to indicate thats not happening
benaiah
let's rename clearfix to clear-fix because it's technically two words
wgreenhouse
wtf is clearfix
blaenk
is there a way to continue a comment if you press enter
ah indent-new-comment-line
or
ElderFain
meh, just ended up commenting it all out for now I guess.
ryouma
flycheck is a pun, right?

bpalmer
I don't think so; on-the-fly checking.
to go along with flyspell (which I think came first), which came after ispell
ham-peas
and flymake, which iirc came between
blaenk
when I do helm-descbinds I see two of the same sections is that normal
I see two ggtags-mode sections
oh I think it's this evil-make-overriding-map thing
bpalmer
evil lies at the root of all evil.
blaenk
anyone use smartparens? trying to figure out why it won't register any bindings
ryouma
bpalmer: oh, i thought it was also a pun on checking your sartorial integrity as a metaphor
wqer
blaenk: Are you sure you don't have to set up the bindings by yourself?
bpalmer
What integrity? I have to differentiate myself.
blaenk
it seems like if you (require 'smartparens-config), it'll create bindings for you wqer
that's waht I understood at least
gonna see
https://github.com/Fuco1/smartparens/wiki/Default-configuration
maybe it doesn't make any binds after all
it's just that I was looking at this https://github.com/Fuco1/smartparens/wiki/Working-with-expressions
and it shows bindings to the right of some of the commands
oh it's a recommended binding ugh
oh ok "You can use the function sp-use-smartparens-bindings to setup the key bindings to smartparens functions to the same values as seen in example configuration "
ryouma
(Action) is strangely optimistic about guixsd
CxCf
Hey all. I JUST found out about Neotrees! I've been using emacs for 1.5 years now and I can't believe I just found it!
wgreenhouse
ryouma: their mailinglist and documentation on contributing reinforces optimism
ryouma: they seem to be consciously avoiding some of the social pitfalls of other gnu projects
and it's actually pleasant to read patch reviews on their list
escondida
CxCf: Source? The first result I seem to get is J. Random Someone's Face®Book® page®, and the results get less coherent from there
wasamasa
wgreenhouse: well, the bulk work invested in evil was apparently coming up with all the hacks (mostly keymaps), structuring it all and writing the alternative set of commands
blaenk
wasamasa
wgreenhouse: doing the bindings on the other hand was probably very simple

wasamasa
wgreenhouse: the only oddity I've seen there was that they've introduced one keymap more than vim got
wgreenhouse: so they've got a very exclusive state of their own which manages confusing the heck out of vim converts
escondida
blaenk: huh

blaenk
huh back at you
escondida
blaenk: It's just a noncommital acknowledgement. "Seen and understood."
"no further comments"
Thanks for the link
blaenk
ohh lol
though 'huh?'
*thought
escondida
ah
blaenk
is there like a canonical 'lisp-like' hook?
ryouma
what social pitfalls? their irc channel seems friendly and fun and they seem to mean business and they are concentrating on good things like binary reproducibility and dealing with spyware firmware and even their initramfs is in scheme! i've never been this interested in a distro before.
blaenk
or do I have to keep listing each one like lisp emacs-lisp, clojure, etc.
or would derived-mode-p work? do most others derive from lisp mode?
wasamasa
blaenk
ryouma: what are you talking about?
ryouma
blaenk: #guix and guixsd
blaenk
thanks wasamasa that's one way to go around this but that's not what I asked
I was just wondering if there was already something like lisp-like-hook or something
ryouma
s/what social pitfalls/what social pitfalls are they doign a good job of avoiding/
wasamasa
blaenk: nope
blaenk
ah ok thanks wasamasa. will do it how that link says then :D
I think I'm mostly set with emacs initial configuration, I just really want to get child themes to work for solarized
but cant make heads or tails of it
wasamasa
in fact, the only hooks that people actually use for deriving modes are prog-mode-hook and text-mode-hook
ryouma
wgreenhouse: ^
blaenk
ahhh okay thanks
that's waht I got the idea to ask from, prog-mode-hook
wasamasa
anything else I see would be compatibility hacks
like, catering for emacsen that don't have prog-mode-hook
tromey
yeah, and for a while not everything derived from prog-mode
blaenk
wow
tromey
there were a few stragglers
including css-mode as recently as this year I think
wasamasa
well, css-mode is derived from prog-mode-hook in HEAD
tromey
yes
wasamasa
can you guess why?
it's using SMIE, that's why
and I find it somewhat disconcerting to see something derived from prog-mode to reside in the text-mode directory, but eh
tromey
yeah
could be moved I suppose
switching it to prog-mode was one of the tweaks I have waiting for when my paperwork goes through
which it taking forever
*is
wqer
Anyone know why my ERC has no color?
blaenk
how can I emit a message in elisp
MisterBubbles
I really wish that gnus worked better for me. Three separate imap accounts, I just want to be able to send and receive email from each separately while not having to keep the emails local. :x
blaenk
I want to make sure that my function is being called, or something
wqer
blaenk: (print "string")
blaenk
thanks wqer
ryouma
blaenk: message
blaenk
hmmm
message will show it in *Messages* I imagine right
thanks it worked
