not to succumb to alzheimer's, presumably
JordiGH
Ah, looks like not knowing what the motto means is kind of institutionalised: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Je_me_souviens#Meaning
wgreenhouse
heh.
`Writer André Duval thought the answer was simpler and closer at hand: In the hall of the Parliament building in which the motto is carved above the door, are the arms of the Marquess of Lorne whose motto was Ne obliviscaris ("Do Not Forget"). Consequently, Duval believed "the motto of Quebec to be at the same time the translation of the Marquess of Lorne's motto and the answer of a French-Canadian subject of Her Majesty to the said
motto."[9]'
that kind of saps much of menace out of it; it becomes a subaltern's obedient answer to the colonizer :(
"Don't forget" "okies"

JordiGH: hahahah. i'd get deported SO FAST a soon i got my hands on a metal file... so many "sou"s to troll!!!
JordiGH
Did you know O Canada is originally French?
cluck
quebec -- je me viens
JordiGH

JordiGH
I'm not actually sure...
In Mexico we actually use "venir" reflexively to mean orgasm, like in English.
But I've never known if that's a calque from English.
I don't think "venir" is used reflexively in French.

cluck
JordiGH: i know it's incorrect
JordiGH
Were you going for the orgasmic meaning?
Is that done in Portugal?
cluck
JordiGH: it's trolling, not a linguistics class
JordiGH
But your trolling would not work at all if nobody knows what you mean.
cluck
JordiGH: you got it (also, everybody has a dirty mind)
JordiGH
Only because I'm Mexican.
cluck: fr.wiktionary.org doesn't mention any orgasmic meanings of "venir". Around here I only hear "jouir" for that.
tasslehoff
anyone familiar with use-package? I'm trying to find out how to make something happen before :bind
finster
tasslehoff: that would be :init
tasslehoff: or even :preface
tasslehoff
finster: I need to define a prefix key before :bind, and putting it in :init did not work.
dije
tasslehoff: Like finster said, :preface
tasslehoff
I'll try that then.
did not work, but perhaps that is because I need to use bind-key and give it my map? https://gist.github.com/anonymous/dbdda3f782b14fbcec4a
worked before, but that must be because some other package define C-c h as a prefix before my helm setup ran
finster
tasslehoff: why don't you just (bind-keys :prefix "C-c h" :prefix-map helm-prefix-map (....)) ?
wasamasa
bremner: ideas for a better bootstrap are gladly taken!
tasslehoff
finster: because I'm not that skilled :)
ah. perhaps it was a regression in helm, cause the latest update fixed it

guys, can some one please check out melpa for me? I can't download its archive contents

This is probably contrary to the true emacs way, but is it possible to share a buffer between multiple emacs *processes* running on the same host, as the same user? (Linux)

TIL that there's a "true emacs way"

Hello. Under Mac OS I have emacs running in a terminal, with a server started. I connected to it with a GUI Emacs frame using emacsclient -c. I killed the frame when done with C-x 5 0. However, I still have a GUI Emacs app running (it appears in the OS X app switcher) and if I try to quit it with command-q, it tries to quit out of the (terminal) emacs server. Is there any way to kill the GUI app without killing Emacs?
dije
enn: You have no visible GUI Emacs window?
dropdrive
dije: I suppose then I want a more seamless experience than having to say "y" when the file's changed.
enn
dije: nope, just a menu bar and the icon in the dock.
dije
enn: Which of the many Emacsen for OS X do you run?
dropdrive: ,auto-revert-mode
enn
dije: 24.5 installed via homebrew
built with the --with-cocoa option
dije
enn: I would bet that an X11 version would work as you expect (if you have X11)
dropdrive
dije: Thanks! I wonder if auto-revert-mode tries to keep your point at the "same" place

is there a way to get the type-assertiony behavior of common lisp's defun? I don't think cl-defun does it.

How do I correct sql-mode's notion of my prompt? The variable sql-product-alist has a complex data structure that defines it (along with 1,000 other things), but it's not obvious how to change it

what's the term for a site (like "codeblow.com" -- I'm not making that up) that simply mirrors information from some other site, while presumably selling ads? There are lots of e.g. mailing list sites like these (and I have google block them whenever I notice one)
