Wikipedia says, «"Pravda" is not a reliable source of information. »
I'm so confused.

rrix: cmon luks isn't that slow really
rrix
wgreenhouse: No, it's not, but between having to type your password and the cryptsetup overhead it probably works out to about that
the unlock is pretty slow, not so much the access after that
Even with a keyfile the unlock takes about 0.75 or 1 second for me
wgreenhouse
rrix: ah yeah, point taken. the moment after I typed that I wondered if you were including the time to unlock your keys in the boot time
:)
rrix

anyone recommend best latex install for os x?

Which is everyone's favorite parentheses soup manager? I've been learning paredit, but lispy seems hip?
wgreenhouse
smartparens is also an option
rrix

ruby is also an option

wasamasa: I wonder what sort of crazed response my timezones bug will get
lukas
emacs surprised me earlier today haha http://redd.it/3cpoys
i accidentally pinged iceland
wgreenhouse
lol
emacs botnet??
fsbot
It is decidedly so
wgreenhouse
fsbot's behind it
bpalmer
How about a nice game of global thermonuclear war?
lukas
you mean global-thermonuclear-war
wgreenhouse
bpalmer: http://map.norsecorp.com/ made me think of War Games lately
lukas
guys, i looked into my config files and i noticed (add-hook 'before-save-hook 'global-thermonuclear-war-mode)
but i really need to save this file
offby1
lukas: edit the hook variable, delete the global-thermonuclear-war-mode
contact the UN
replace it with 'how-about-a-nice-game-of-chess-mode
bremner
rather, contact the MPAA
mightemacs
(add-hook 'global-thermonuclear-war-mode-hook '(lambda () (tic-tac-toe 0-players)) )
offby1
bremner: that'd be for if he'd had 'blockbuster-mode

Should edebug-Go-nonstop-mode stop debugging?

let's put the NORAD mainframe on public telnet
wasamasa
wgreenhouse: let's just see

otjura
I have defuned mode specific keys and hooked the function to those modes, but somehow I get the defined behavior in other modes too
how exactly is the scope broken here? http://pastebin.com/60YDUfq5
wgreenhouse
otjura: well for one `key-translation-map' is a global var unless you tell it not to be
so you're setting that global map every time this hook runs
otjura
yay, that's what you get for copypasting solutions
wgreenhouse
otjura: are the f8 and f5 bindings also appearing everywhere?
otjura
now. I was thinking the problem is in lambda
s/now/no
wgreenhouse
ok
tmtwd_
is there a script that launches emacs with a different color theme every time you launch it?
wgreenhouse
tmtwd_: no, but that sounds pretty easy to write
akkad
random color theme
tmtwd_: https://gist.github.com/ed4b98a3d1d03f3aced2
tmtwd_
akkad, i can just pop that in my .emacs file?
akkad
it can show you how to do it. load it and test it
otjura
wgreenhouse: apparently fixed it with just local set keys
wgreenhouse
otjura: instead of key-translation-map?
otjura
ya, commented it out for futre reminder
wgreenhouse
yeah, that should work okay
you don't have to put your key translations in key-translation-map

what font is used in emacsthemes screenshots? http://emacsthemes.caisah.info/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/monokai.png
benaiah
mp4: that looks a bit like Source Code Pro
wtf
rrix
evil-mode in erc? :P
benaiah
rrix: yup
rrix
Yeah, that's like half the reason I moved towards plain-ole-emacs
benaiah
typed his name not realizing I was in normal mode, and it ended with a 4
mp4
heh
rrix
My favorite is accidentally hitting . and having your half of a private message conversation ending up in another channel accidentally
mp4
thanks!
benaiah
rrix: lol
rrix
That is source code pro, tho, yes
the i's are pretty telling
aidalgol
wgreenhouse: do you use the hosts file from someonewhocares.org?
or something similar
benaiah
rrix: I may just tell erc to be in emacs mode, since I don't use evil much in irc anyway, except for /
rrix
Yeah
wgreenhouse
aidalgol: I used to; I haven't in a while since SOCKS clients don't check the hosts file. I've procrastinated making something emacsish to scrape it into torrc format
and just having a torrc full of "MapAddress" entries that'd do the same
aidalgol
I just wanted to check that it had your endorsement before using it on my home LAN router. :P
wgreenhouse
aidalgol: ah yeah, I love it
aidalgol: I found it quite annoyance-saving and I don't remember it breaking any sites
aidalgol
I'll probably write a scraper for it to torrc myself soon after.
Although I'll probably use Bash/Sed/Awk/Coreutils
benaiah
why would you need a hosts file when you can just move to the uk
wgreenhouse
aidalgol: pretty simple conversion: hosts's "0.0.0.0 spam.site" becomes torrc's "MapAddress spam.site 0.0.0.0"
aidalgol
You know what, I hereby dub that set of tools BASC.
jgh
I need to replace a bunch of dates in ad-hoc format with ISO format. Emacs, help me!
benaiah
aidalgol: because they speak an obscure language that very few understand?
aidalgol
because I always use them ALL together, and coreutils doesn't include the shell or sed or awk
benaiah
,rimshot
fsbot
*badum TISH*
aidalgol
benaiah: the other option was SCAB
also, BASC looks a bit like Bash
wgreenhouse
aidalgol: I like calling it SCAB
aidalgol: especially given the labor-rights meaning :-P
aidalgol
wgreenhouse: I kinda do, but I'll probably get sick of the quips everyone'll make pretty fast
wgreenhouse
"time to break up this strike! send in the SCAB!"
aidalgol
I'm sticking with BASC
